How to set up another nameserver at another web host?

Posted by vraezsvfew, 05-19-2015, 04:59 PM
Linux OS: CentOS 6 Control Panel: cPanel ==================== in csf I get this annoying thing, I want to solve this but I have spent months trying to figure it out. I have each nameserver to its own IP and also have more IPs available to use. I also have domains I am not using. Additionally I have Hostgator as well as my dedicated server (not through hostgator). I was thinking maybe I can set up a nameserver at hostgator and point it at my server or something? How would I go about doing this? Last edited by vraezsvfew; 05-19-2015 at 05:05 PM.

you can ignore the waring if you want to it will have no effect on how your server runs but id you want to be RFC complaint then you set up a DNS cluster with your "geographically dispersed server" and move one of your name servers to it (change the ip)

It says you need to add 2 nameservers on 2 different ip which is on different location and on different servers. Using ip's in one server is also fne and you can ignore those.

Hello, Setting name servers with another host is required, correct IP and dns. You are needed to just add correct child name servers at domain registrar end and add the required dns on hosting servers. If you are using WHM then you can simply edit the dns using edit dns zone tool.

You can buy a smaller VPS and just install cpanel DNS on it and then can create a cluster for dns Where any changes in one dns the other would also copy the master server for the zone file where the second slave server can act as 2 dns server

Depending on how many sites you're hosting, you may like to look at a third party service such as DNS Made Easy. They're legends in the DNS industry! Not free, though. I would certainly go down this route for production sites.

Hi, Its just the warning you are seeing and what it means that 2 nameserver should have 2 different IP to get a failover type of situation, so if one is down, other takes its place, but I dont think it is needed. You can create the nameserver on 2 different server IP in the same location.
