hello does anyone have any good information on creating an spf record or any ideas to elp clean up a domain . I have a client that is getting bounce backs of emails he did not send and it has also caused this two domains to end up on black lists. these are two sites I have recently transfered over from a large hosting company. I can account they arent sending spam or news letters. this in return is causing my IP to be listed as well. we have been in contact with webmasters and sending them requests to white list the domain and IP but it seems to be a weekly problem.

Hello, There is no control on your e-mail getting used in spoof e-mails. 1. If any one using your e-mail address in "From:" field in the script or e-mail header and that e-mail get bounced back. 2. As "From:" field is containing your e-mail address, that bounced e-mail will get delivered to your server only. The best option I would suggest is go for any 3rd party incoming mail filtering system.

Hi, You should try enabling the SPF and DKIM check along with RBL listing, so the mails will be verified for these and then be delivered. Give it a try.

You can find more information on how to create the SPF records here: http://www.openspf.org/SPF_Record_Syntax Don't be overwhelmed by the documentation, most SPF records end up being very simple. I also recommend making sure the reverse DNS of your mailserver is set correctly. Doing these 2 things may reduce the amount of bouncebacks as the emails sent out by the false party may be seen as spam by the receiving mailservers in the first place, and consequently dropped and not bounced.

Thank you for the information. Do you recommend any mail filtering service? I feel like a the man,in the middle between my client and who I have my vps with. I'm just hoping I can get their email running smooth. I understand their will always be small hits here and there but they have received over 350 bounce backs in one night

Hello, if you put in SPF -all at the end you can have big reduction of spoof emails because the most of the mailservers can block in smtp communication the spam servers. I can send you a good spf sample. Just let me know if you use one server for both webpage and mailserver.

add this spf record: "v=spf1 a mx ip4:5.5.5.5 -all" (replace the 5.5.5.5 with the ip of your server) The important part is the -all. Normally the most providers use ~all. The -all is lot more safe. Wait 24 hours and tell us the results
