KVM or IPMI

I want to know if I should go for KVM over IP switch or IPMI enabled servers for remote management? I found KVM over IP solutions to be very expensive. Please give an honest opinion.

IPMI is most widely used for server management this days. You have full control over the serial console and even filter access by users, IP addresses and many server health monitoring statistics like temperature, voltage consumption, and many more useful features.

IPMI + It allows better control than a KVM. KVM depending on the type of device(spider KVM) you could lose access to the KVM if you reboot the server while the IPMI will retain connection allowing you to access the BIOS. Most KVM will disconnect depending on how the DC tech plug them in. Supermicro and DELL servers come with their own IPMI, and many host now offer it as part of their service package.

Hi, Both have their own advantages and disadvantages, but I would prefer IPMI over KVM after dealing with both of them for years.
