EZPZ Hosting - UK-SRV2 -> UK-SRV1 migration

Posted by wolvyreen, 03-01-2012, 09:24 AM
Hey All, I was just hoping that I could get an idea of who else was on UK-SRV2 and has now been migrated to UK-SRV1. The new server is spectacularly fast. But that is probably because it is still underutilised. All my clients accounts were migrated over yesterday but it seems that during the migration 12 account failed to migrate over. I am now unable to manage these accounts until they finish the migration. Also, the mail on the server is not working 100%. I have plenty of clients complaining that mails are being bounced back. I have opened tickets for all my issues but I just feel that the urgency of the mail problem is not being treated as urgent as I want it to. So my question here is, is there anyone else having mail problems on the new server? It is causing me endless amounts of pain and I feel I am being ignored by Dan and the team. Dan and them are great but I am just not getting much joy on this certain problem. Let me know if there is anyone else. Thanks Wolvy

Since you were just moved yesterday, it's possible the mail issues are the result of propagation not being complete. Mail servers might be sending mail to the old mx values, this would also explain hit and miss email failures.

Thanks Fiber, but whats strange is that it is only a very select few clients. Also the host promised met here would be no downtime because the other server would still continue to be up and running.

The propagation process can sometimes result in lost mail even if the old server is running. Example: Mail server sends email successfully to old server (hasn't picked up the mx record change yet). Client accesses mailbox from pop on new server (their ISP has already picked up the change). They will see no mail, since the mail is in the mailbox on the old server. This could easily happen in reverse order as well.

They found the problem. The problem was related to the Mail Exchanger not being set to Local Mail Exchanger. It is strange that it was the case because I never made that change. Maybe the client did while fiddling or something

Good to hear that the issue was resolved quickly. Sounds like EZPZ is returning to form.

Well, I opened this ticket yesterday afternoon already so if that is acceptable then ok

Well, it's still an improvement over some of the recent threads. It appears they've been putting in a lot of man-hours migrating between data centers. Hopefully support speed will increase once the migrations are finished.

Speed hasn't been the best for me over the past few months. Really hope it gets better, or I will be forced to move over all my sites!

I'm waiting for a server tranfer, if it will not solve the speed problem I will have to move too.

Well, the new server is performing very well.

Good to hear

That's always good to hear... keep us updated

I'm really enjoying the performance of the new server! Site loading is almost instant but I was informed the server doesn't have many account on it. There has been some teething problems. Like the php memory_limit being set too low causing scripts to fail or server time zones incorrect. Which I am still waiting for them to look in to the problem.

How much is it currently set to?

wolvyreen - I think that you're the only one on the new server? That might explain the performance you're noticing - keep records of server loads, you may well notice a slow down when they move more customers onto the box. I'm still on the old dog, obviously not special enough

Damn dewd!! I feel for you....that server really sucked. I hope you get migrated soon!

Mmmmm.... As one of the more vocal critics of EZPZ, I think my name may well have slipped down the list of "who do we move first..." !! Still, going to get my haircut and collect the 4 legged beastie from the kennels so no rush

There are other accounts on the other server so he's not the only one. If you'd like to be moved across please submit a ticket to support and we'll get that done for you.

I'm just quoting your comment from your forum Dan, so if my info was out of date then I apologise to all. Thanks for the offer, but I'd need to hear from other users as to the stability of the server before I commit to a move, frying pan and fire etc. So I'll reserve my request to move! Have you resolved the uptime reporting issue, so we can see if our own stats are reporting the same as yours? My own stats are miles away from whats being reported by pingdom?

I think when I first moved on to the server I was the first but since then, there have been more put on. But I haven't noticed a performance decrease yet. I have had a lot of problems with my DNS stuffies though, however Dan is trying his best to help me out there.

I have been trying to have my accounts moved from svr2 for nearly two weeks now. I was first told by Dan that it would be done overnight on the 26th Feb. That didn't happen & I have raised several tickets since & been told each time that my accounts would be moved shortly on the same day. The last response I had from Jamie was on the 5th saying that that accounts would be migrated in the next 30 minutes - they still aren't. I have chased again today as svr2 is running really slow which seems to be the norm now. My clients are becoming really hacked off - as am I. I have been giving EzPz the benefit of the doubt since December and trying to find good reasons to stick with them confident that Dan & the team will get on top of the problems but I'm finding it increasingly hard. I have already moved a number of sites to another UK host & I must say it's a dream in comparison. The sites are just always there & load lightening fast. I don't have to keep checking or worrying about them. I have everything crossed that EzPz can migrtae my sites without any issues really soon & my confidence will be restored...

There might be a reason that Dan and the team haven't migrated many over yet. Three has been some teething problems and I have been the client to experience them first hand seeing as though I was the first to be moved on to SRV1. But they should honestly tell you if that is the reason. They shouldn't keep you on a string.
