Reseller Account? US, UK, Australia? VPS ?

Hi I have zero experience as a reseller and minimal hosting experience, so I am not even sure what questions to ask. I am planning to host mobile sites for customers ie clientsdomain.com will be on the clients server, m.clientsdomain.com will be on my server. I will add dns records on the customers server and a re-direct script to my server. Customers would be mostly, US, UK, Australia /NZ with a small number from South Africa, Ireland and some other countries - worldwide. Sites will be plain XHTML/PHP - with storage requirements of 1mb to 25mb (most under 5mb). No DB required, each site <200 visits per day (most <10). Minimal FTP or email requirement per site. I presume I will need at least one Reseller account (to get use of WHM - and to meet host reseller requirements). I might benefit from billing facilities provided by hosting company. So - will a simple shared reseller account be sufficient for me? Should I be considering having accounts in US, UK/Europe & Australia (when traffic justifies having three servers)? At what point should I consider a VPS? What hosting features should I be looking for? What other questions should I be asking? What questions do you need to ask me? Thanks for reading

You could get away with a centrally located reseller hosting account, such as in Europe, or get 3 accounts in US, EU, AU. You should consider a VPS when the types of sites being hosted are too important to be sharing a server with unknown neighbours. You may even need to consider a dedicated server for ecommerce sites. It really all depends. Since your question is general the answer is going to be general.

Suhailc - Thanks for your prompt response. I realise my question was general, as I am not sure of all the things I need to consider, but thanks for giving me some things to consider. Ecommerce will not be a big requirement - possibly some simple payment pages for Paypal donations for charities. I would be keen to hear the things I should be considering regarding (unknown neighbours ), I would plan to have a dedicated IP, I am aware that neighbours load could slow access to my sites. Any more suggestions welcome. Thanks Ckxion

Yes, you'll want a reseller account in each of the geographic areas you're targeting. Mobile users are even less patient than desktop users, plus bandwidth restrictions to mobile devices means having it "closer" to the user, and with a very highly connected host becomes essential. Avoid unlimited, it doesn't exist - why start a business relationship with someone who lies to you ? Avoid ridiculously cheap, it comes with a correspondingly low amount of investment in infrastructure. For EU, the 2 best connected places are London Docklands and Amsterdam - and as the EU is "in the middle" of your rather diverse set of client locations, would be the obvious place to start. Having your script "divert" the visitor to the nearest server in your system to their location is the obvious next development step, and syncing the content if the M-sites between locations ...

You can also use cloudflare or any CDN you like, if you don't want multiple servers.

For your requirements at the moment a reseller account would be more than enough. Personally I think a VPS would not be required until you have a lot of domains using a lot of disk space and bandwidth.
