Hi All, I have been looking for a while to find a managed server hosted in a UK datacentre to replace my current setup in the USA. I am looking for a Linux/Apache Managed Server that is hosted in a UKdata center. I need SSH access but I do NOT need root access (in fact I would prefer not to have root access at all, as I require the server to be automatically kept up to date with security patches, etc) Other requirements: It must be possible for "wildcard" subdomains (i.e. *.yourdomain.com style subdomains) - this is achieved by adding a DNS setting and a small change to the httpd.conf file - I believe that this needs to be done (infrequently) by someone from support with root access - support needs to be able to accomodate occassional requests like this Further details of the wildcard subdomain issue an be found here: irafi.com/post/2006/04/27/creating-wildcard-subdomains-controllerdispatcher/ Can anyone make a recommendation? I recommend giving them a call/sending off an email. I imagine the price would be dependent the level of management you require and a whole host of other alternatives.

What is your budget for this? What kind of server spec are you looking for? There are many UK based managed hosting providers on this board, if you e-mail around I'm sure you'll get some good costs. Dan

Hi All, Apologies for the confusion (or rather, lack of detail) in my original post. To clarify I am looking something similar to the managed and dedicated server that BlueWho or HttpMe offer, but in a UK data center. To clarify this further: Budget between around £90 and £160 per month (depending on the processor type / speed and storage offered) Linux and Apache php No root access required SSH access required Ability to make specific and occasional support requests (e.g. editing php.ini, and other system files that normally require root access - these would be handled in a timely fashion by support) Regular security patching done by the ISP Ideally this could be a reseller account on a dedicated server Control panels (I am familiar with WHM and cPanel - so if these are included, then great!) Hope this makes a little more sense. And finally, just by way of explanation, the reason why I do not want root access is because I want the server to be regularly maintained and the responsibility for security patching, etc. is entirely in the hands of the ISP - I do not have the time to keep an eye on issues such as this 24 hours) Many thanks, Darren.

Have you checked Clook Internet, Kualo and United Hosting. All these seem to provide managed dedicated servers based in UK.

Another vote for www.2host.co.uk here as well. I have a couple of managed servers and a number of unmanaged servers. A good company to be doing business with.
