Avoid SeeksAdmin if you Can for Upgrades

Posted by Energizer Bunny, 12-04-2006, 04:32 PM
Hello, 3 days of service and 40+ minutes of downtime thanks seeksadmin. Will keep its short, seeksadmin do not know what they are doing when they do kernel upgrades, first time they attempted on my server, their so called tech forgot to load iptables. Second time they asked tech to recompile the kernel he forgot to load some drivers or something and crashed my server and took 40 minutes to get it online. From what i have been told from logs that they were trying to copy and use precompiled grsecurity from evolution (or something similar) and didnt bother to do a custom compilation like i had requested, had they done so my server would have not gone offline. I have moved away from them , got refund according to tris (will wait and see my cc statement at end of this month to see if i did get refund). Not Tirses fault just that the so called tech was incompetent at doing upgrades. Do not know if they have such incompetent techs for all their services but for now 5 thumbs down to Seeksadmin.com . PS: The same kernel that they were trying to compile was complied without downtime or issues within 2 hrs. So, you cannot complain my server hardware or anything else, cause someone more knowledgeable was able to do the upgrade. Cheers

not this AGAIN. Once again I dont want to have to explain that kernel compiles go wrong, and I have defended myself and shown proof many times. I refuse to argue this any more and will leave this to steve. Anyone who begins to believe this however just read my other threads as this is rediculous. As for the refund i gave it was via paypal, i just clicked the refund button and paypal said everything was fine when I contacted them. So you will recieve it.

Yup this again tris just posting my review on your services nothing special no one asking for explanation either and i know kernel upgrades go wrong but how come they go wrong with you guys only, 2 other companies did the upgrades but none managed to magically crash the server. Enjoy and i hope you improve and hire better techs. Refund doesnt cut it always tris its the headaches that you get after you see your server messed up big time. Refunds wont give you any relief. Cheers & Enjoy your stay in this thread.

Seeksadmin have completed a kernel compile on both of my servers. Both times without any problems at all.

Posted by Energizer Bunny, 12-04-2006, 04:45 PM
I bet its a stock kernel, please post your kernel version. Cheers. And like i said i am just posting my experience , i suppose its their and my bad luck that it went haywire.

That's what I get.

OP: I'm sorry you were not satisfied with the service provided to you. We have successfully completed many kernel compiles without any issues, and there are the occasional few that have problems and require more time. Unfortunately, yours was one of these few. I do not agree with your post regarding the competence of our staff, but your review is free to state your opinion for the world to interpret. As my partner has stated, we promptly offered credit & issued a refund via the same method you initially paid. There isn't much more I can add on here so I'll leave it at that. @Readers: Please do utilize the search feature and look-up SeeksAdmin to find more reviews (good/bad/neutral) to help you make your decision regarding our service.

I only trust Steven from Rack911.com for kernel upgrades - he is really expert in custom-made kernels (custom modules and drivers) and detect issues very fast. He did bunch of kernels for me and no issues what so ever. I cannot say either good or bad words about seekadmin - never used them, but kernels is challenging subject for most of server management company's according my personal expirience.

I use them to administrate my servers and i had a serious problem and one of their techs was able to get my problem resolved. I used their service and am happy with them.

I agree to that statement he has done good work with the kernel and even fixed the issue that kernel had with cpanel which lyron couldnt get it fixed for 6 days. And not to mention the crashy seeksadmin techs.

Steve from Rack911 messed up my server and refused to respond to many attempts at contacting him to fix it. I've been with SeeksAdmin less then a month now but so far am loving them; I've prepaid a year already. You can view a more detailed description of how I'm liking them so far at: http://www.tylercruz.com/?p=176

From what he told me you never provided him password again to fix your machine. But thats between you and him, and if he messes up mine, he wont have access to my machine either its plain and simple rule, someone messes up your machine you do not trust them with your money and machine PERIOD. From what i have gathered so far someone was using this to try to upgrade kernel : http://www.evolution-security.com/mo...rder=0&thold=0 Last edited by Energizer Bunny; 12-05-2006 at 02:09 AM.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear your bad experience with Seeksadmin. Unfortunately, I do not have any first hand experience with Seeksadmin with regards to kernel recompilation because I just want them to help my admin to manage our server. Based on the work that they did for us by fair judgment of them, I am satisfied with Seeksadmin's work. Most of the time Tris, Matt & John are the ones who attend to our requests for something to be done. Actually it is not just myself. I know Tris since years ago (around 2003) and so far I have actually seen many good feedbacks on him. For your case, to be very honest, this is the first time I see they make such mistake (I'm no way affiliated to them) Anyways, human make mistakes. It is good that they admitted the mistake and performed the corresponding refund to you. Since Tris saw this topic, I'm sure he will do something to make sure that such unlikely phenomenon will not happen again. Thanks and all the best to you.

I have seen you post this in several threads over and over again, what is the point? I have been with PlatinumServerManagement, CoastInc, Rack911 and Seeksadmins Rack911 is great and Seeksadmins is as good and cheaper, they work fast, good and also tell you what is wrong with your server after they fix it. I could not be happier.

Sorry no point, just letting others know my experience with seeksadmin nothing special .

As a host - you clearly should understand that sometimes problems occur and customers get frustrated. It doesn't mean that the company is horrible, it just means that unfortunately you were that one case out of many. Sort of an unlucky lotto winner. So my question is - as a provider and knowing how ridiculous it is to post a negative review bashing a company based solely on an isolated event is ludicrous, why are you now doing it to SeeksAdmin? So because of this one bad experience you had, you are now telling everyone to stay clear of them? To me that is simply ridiculous! I would hate to be frustrated customer of yours.

QUOTE=jerettI am not being rude here but what the hell is wrong with you?[/QUOTE] Oh you asked, nothing much i like taking lots of weed and plus right now i got a Flu issue. Dunno if that classifies as something wrong with me is taking drugs wrong?

Posted by jerett, 12-07-2006, 06:18 PM
I am glad I edited that out. But since you posted it - and explained - I now see where your mentality comes from. It's always fun to try and defend a reputable company because a child post something negative about it. Stop bashing from out of stupidity. Well - you on the bong so that explains it.

Posted by Energizer Bunny, 12-07-2006, 07:58 PM
Yes yes blame the bong for it was the bong that crashed my server and kernel and not Seeksadmin who were trying to upgrade the kernel in a bad manner/fashion. Bad Bong bad..

Posted by Voyeur, 12-30-2006, 03:40 PM
Seeksadmin screwed one of my kernels real bad too, I ended up reloading OS and restoring, rebuilding everything from the scratch.

Posted by TR Seeks, 12-30-2006, 03:48 PM
Who are you? Because I honestly have no record of messing up anyones kernel bar the OP. Firstly this is because we dont do many and secondly if it was messed up it would be reffered to me to be sorted. So please give me your ticket ID so I can at least look into it.

Posted by RaghavT, 12-30-2006, 05:09 PM
SeeksAdmin, had been great till now... Though, haven't contacted them for kernel compilation till now

I think Voyeur is the same guy who started this thread ..

I have used seeks admin services, they are just really good. Support reply time is fast and techs really know what they are doing. I highly recommend them.

Posted by Steven, 12-30-2006, 06:03 PM
Your very wrong. Voyeur is with serverwizards. OP is with me.

Posted by Nafadya, 12-30-2006, 06:09 PM
We are using seeksadmin.com They are professionals John is my man

Posted by garrence, 12-30-2006, 06:57 PM
So.... you asked a low-cost support company to compile you a custom kernel with grsecurity? I don't see mention of "grsecurity" on their public web site so it clearly isn't one of their core competencies. You must be aware that there is a very high risk of failure. 40 minutes is a fairly normal downtime when a procedure like that fails. Your repeated posting of this complaint could lead some to think you have some other vendetta to persue against the company. Please post the instructions that you gave to SeeksAdmin when you ordered the work to be done (blanking out any sensitive pieces). We can then judge for ourselves whether you gave clear and reasonable instructions, or whether your instructions were open to misinterpretation leading to error. Thank-you.

Posted by Steven, 12-30-2006, 07:03 PM
Blah blah blah he didnt want grsecurity, he wanted a source kernel in general, he did not even know grsecurity was tried. I dont know why this thread was even bumped up.

Posted by net, 12-31-2006, 05:47 AM
Then that is a good sign of a good company if they failed somewhere. Nothing's perfect. If you didn't get your refund, you may simply file a complain to your credit card company. Goodluck! Net
