Looking to move from VPS to Reseller Account

Posted by logart, 10-19-2013, 01:42 PM
Hello, I am thinking about moving my current VPS whm/cpanel over to a reseller account. The server I have runs great, but it is expensive for the few accounts I have hosted on it ($200+ per month total). I am looking for suggestions on cpanel reseller hosts that match my criteria: Good supportGood performanceWHM/CPanelCloudLinux includedSoftaculous includedWHMCS includedUS-Based I am currently looking at liquidweb but I am interested in any other hosts that match the criteria. AThanks!

Guess liquidweb does not offer cpanel reseller accounts.

What might your budget be and how much disk space/bandwidth do your current sites consume on your dedicated server?

150GB/month and 50GB disk.

what was your VPS configuration?

I agree with @ServerSub, your current vps configuration and the amount of resources you are using (in total and per site) are important factors to consider when moving to shared hosting. A busy site that runs fine on the vps may hit CL limits on a shared account. As far as recommendations go, HawkHost and MDDhosting are popular options that are worth adding to your short list. I've used both (directly and indirectly) with great results.

22 accounts on a Dual 2.80GHz scalable VPS currently w/4GB RAM 100GB storage used, Cloud Linux, KSplice, Cpanel, Softaculous I don't necessarily enjoy the thought of losing root access for to my accounts, but I think the cost savings will convince me to accept my fate. Have you consider scaling down your current VPS? You really don't need 4GB MEM, CL etc if you are just hosting 22 sites and do you really need CL to manage 22 sites?

Yea, as SkyNet has said, it's actually better to look for a lower end VPS rather than to move to a reseller account. You would still retain root access then as well as not having to worry whether or not you will be suspended.

Whats your budget for reseller hosting?

Well, I had scaled it up a few months back because the wordpress sites were running slow. When I complained about it the host said there were not enough resources (ram/cpu). I believe the iowait was (and probably still is) the main issue. Bumping up the resources helped. Also, I have it running on CloudLinux because it keeps the server from being totally consumed by an account. Even if I only have 2 accounts on the server I believe CL is a good idea for my customers. This server is still better performing than the old vps I had these accounts running on before, and there has been nearly 0 downtime from the host in the past year.

Are these high traffic websites? or do you run any resource intensive plugins? if not 20 normal shared hosting type websites should not overload or slow down the the VPS. CL also takes resources to operate and sometimes slow down the websites. On the other hand if your 20 sites are already overloading a 4GB VPS you could also face issues if you move them to a reseller plan on a shared server.

I get it you need to downgrade, but I think you are going to end up running into issues if you go to shared hosting.

I have decided to optimize the sites that I am currently hosting in order to free up some resources on the server which will allow me to size-down the vps.

I recommend Hostdime or Surpasshosting. Their support is fast and the servers mostly work stable. But speed can be different as server on Reseller Hosting. Sometimes it can be very slow because of load. You maybe not get same quality service on Reseller Hosting. Liquidweb was sell reseller hosting on Sonet7.com But they closed the site. If you think their VPS when I recommend them. Their support is fast and uptime is good.
