Reseller for these specs?

Posted by RCKG, 10-24-2013, 06:16 PM
Hey guys, looking for a reseller host for this: 100GB+ Space 1000GB+ Bandwidth Unlimited Accounts and Domains Unlimited Databases WHMCS Domain Reseller Will be hosting only Wordpress sites US servers Overselling allowed (but slight, maybe 20% over, not too much) CPanel 1-click installer like Fantastico Preferred if possible: Video tutorials (White label) and good security add-ons Not expecting it to be super cheap at $20, would pay $50/mth for a good one, most important is good support and fast loading times for WP sites. Was considering CrocWeb but they are in Canada...

You budget may be a little too tight try bumping it up at least to $75 and for sure you'll find a good host. The specs for the bandwidth and disk just may be a little out of place but you can't give up there are hosts who can meet your requirements. Have you ever consider going with a VPS server managed or not? You can go with one you'll just have to give up on a little bit of the resources you need.

Hmm.. I'd go as high as $80 I think. Who's great at that range?

What do you anticipate your "actual" usage to be? Most asking for 100GB half the time don't come close to 10% of that. If that's the case, I'd recommend looking at companies with a little bit lower resources...

80/mo. can get you a good VPS very easily with everything you're looking for. You could get fully-managed for that price. No sense even fooling around with a reseller account.

I want to get 20 clients, 5GB of space each and as much bandwidth as possible. Thus want 100Gb with some overselling.

Posted by RCKG, 10-24-2013, 07:04 PM
I'd rather take it a bit slower and learn more about hosting by doing it and then move up. VPS sounds good but I'm afraid it might be too early to start with it.

Right, but what I'm getting at is do you have 20 users actively using 5GB each right now? If not, go with a smaller plan to start out, then upgrade within if the company you choose is a good fit.

No I don't. But I'd rather not risk moving the sites later on many times.. I guess I could start at like 50GB space and 500GB bandwidth.. That's good for 10 clients which would be good start.

True, I understand where you're coming from there however, upgrading within the same company most of the time wouldn't require moving anything - the plan itself can be upgraded.

Well yeah, upgrading plans is easy but finding trustworthy company isn't. So I'd rather pay for peace of mind and good trust and then move up to higher plan and eventually VPS/Dedicated server. I believe in you get what you pay for, so I'm not thinking you can find a host for $20 with all the features..

Something like this is easily capable, you can go with eleven2, and get all of those specs for around $20 a month. I don't know if they give you a domain reseller but if you need help I can help you find some.

It would be the same like reseller if you get a managed VPS because you only worry in creating accounts in the control panel.

Posted by RCKG, 10-24-2013, 08:51 PM
I think I've seen some bad reviews for them around here.. some recommended but some were bad.. or maybe that was similar name..

Posted by RCKG, 10-24-2013, 08:53 PM
Hmm.. would it be better to get Dedicated+Managed one then? Isn't VPS shared with someone else too and that would be possible server overload because of them. I guess reseller has the same problem..

Posted by net, 10-24-2013, 08:57 PM
That is correct. If you want the security and do not want to share the cpu/ram/io resources, managed server is recommended.

If you are only hosting wordpress sites I would recommend to go for a host that have good knowledge in WP security and most importantly have multiple backups. I dont really recommend using Fantastico to install WP and they don't provide proper upgrade options and their build versions are most of the time dated. I would highly recommend Softaculous for WP which provides most up to date security updates. Overselling allowed does not mean host is overselling. Overselling enabled is where a host take the amount of disk space and bandwidths ACTUAL USE between all your accounts not what you allocate.

In general 95% of the normal WP clients use less than 1GB space (most are under 500mb), are you planning to host high traffic larger WP sites?

Posted by RCKG, 10-25-2013, 11:14 AM
Most of them will be under 1 Gb, that's normal. But good luck selling small plans, I don't think you can sell anything less than 5GB these days. I will be posting stuff about the tricks hosts use with Unlimited stuff, but still, I don't think it will let me sell 2GB plans, altho I might have that plan just as one of the 3 options. Thanks for the tip on WP hosting!

You are welcome! Try to find a host that allow the overselling function in WHM, this way you only have to pay for what your clients use not the amount that allocate to them.

This. Don't confuse the overselling feature with overloading - having this enabled, doesn't necessarily mean that the servers will be overloaded. Your reseller account will be based on "usage" of the limits and not allocation. For example, if you create 10 plans at 5GB each, with overselling disabled, you won't be able to add more than 5 accounts, no matter what the actual usage is. Allowing overselling is a good feature & allows customers to actually use what they're paying for however, the host needs to be responsible & closely monitor to be sure they can handle the capacity of said plans.

Will do! Need to get 10-20 clients first, after that, we'll see.
