webbycart... 1 month review

Posted by btbc, 08-15-2008, 12:44 AM
So, I'll keep this short and sweet. I have been with webbycart for about a month now... actually 29 days as the invoice is due tomorrow. I used the live help to ask a few pre-sales questions (can't really remember what the questions were) but I was impressed enough that I signed up. In the past month, I opened 9 tickets that ranged from server setup and hardening, installing PHP extensions, all the way to troubleshooting either server/network slowdowns. All the tickets were completed very promptly... the quickest ticket was a few minutes... and the longest one took 2 hours I think... If webbycart wants to know who this is... search for a ticket ending in 242 that was assigned to Patricia.

While i agree what everyone here about their however i still feel little bit dissapointed because when i was with them they normally do their standard procedure to secure the server right? however my server still got hacked because of unprotected /tmp. The reason they didnt do it because they assumed Dc already secured it.Though they did clean the mess after the hacker and i appreciate that but Im not sure if i can trust them anymore after that.

Hi maikon, Sorry, if this was happened to your server, but I just checked the tickets, and your server was not hacked due to insecure /tmp directory. I even checked it myself, and it is already secured, a staff just mistakenly identified one file in your /tmp as malicious file, which is indeed it was just temp files of pear. Securing /tmp is pretty standard and we all do this in all servers. The hack was local to your account and not server wide. We have restored your hack account at no time and increased the security of your server and I believe after that there are no incidence of hack again. If you have further questions or problem or even a refund even of your last month fee as you did not renew your account, you can easily contact us anytime. Regards, Bobby

I would feel guilty of demanding refund after how much tickets you have resolved so i wouldnt think of refunding. Anyway you did make it more secure which i aknowledge that but i were hoping that you could have prevented that when i first signed with you meaning the 777 directories. but no harm done as the files were restored by you. I still favour your service and response time among other. And after re-reading the tickets i know i missunderstood some part so sorry about that Last edited by Maikon; 08-31-2008 at 02:07 PM.

Hello, As If I remember it correctly, the hack was due to insecure directory to a specific domain, and there are things that we can't prevent as this directory could been created or changed the mode right after the initial setup and regular checkup. Again, sorry If this was made you disappointed. Regards, Bobby

Okay, so my initial review was on 8/14 and today is 9/24. Recently, my HDD gave up the ghost so I have had to rebuild everything. Since I backed up religiously, I am fine in the data department. But without Webbycart, I'd probably be stressed out like a madman right now. 2008 8:37:52PM - my request to setup and harden the new server 2008 8:45:25PM - "Hi, We will work on this. Thanks Josh" Josh, I hope you don't mind me posting your response. And everyone, please remember to backup RIGHT NOW. There will be many many many months in a row where I won't submit any tickets, but having peace of mind is PRICELESS.

I appreciate one thing with this guys, the way they answer the tickets promptly in time also the friendly staff, we have two servers managed by them as of now, we have peace of mind like btbc told. Two times my server is affected by malware, each time its affected they do their best
