Stablehost or Crocweb

Posted by knector, 03-17-2014, 03:10 PM
I'm looking for a reseller account to move away from a shared Hostgator account, the reseller will only be for my own use. I have 5 Wordpress sites with 5 to 10 plugins, and some static html sites (splash and landing pages) and will be making more of each, they are not large sites and have not more media and pictures than a regular site. The sites are both for US and Worldwide traffic, I get most traffic from US. I know it's going to be either Stablehost or Crocweb I choose, because they allow me to start on a small account (space wise) at a low price and I have seen many great reviews for both. The reason I have a hard time choosing is... Stablehost is only allowing me to have 10 cPanel accounts, so if I get more than 10 domains I have to make add on domains, which defeats the purpose of a reseller account. And the other day they let me select between 2 data centers in the US, and the Chicago one had a great download speed of 1.8 and was fast to get to that speed (Same as Crocweb) plus Chicago is more central to US and EU, but today I noticed their checkout don't allow selecting Chicago anymore, and Phoenix is a little slower from here, and take longer to get up to speed. I don't know how important the download speed is. Crocweb looks great with SSD and everything, but what worries me is that most hosts, even without SSD, have a cost of around 1GB/$1, but Crocweb more than double this in some instances, so that made me a little worried of overselling. I don't think it's a problem they are in Canada, since the town is so close to US and there speeds seems great all the way to EU. Can anyone shed some light on these things. Thanks in advance.

I vote Stablehost. You already saw what buying based on price gets you! Crocweb is good, but not as good as Stablehost.

Seems that speed matters a lot to you. Is your visitors mostly from the same area as yours? Both web hosts have good reviews here on WHT, I think you should be safe with either one. Try calling them up, talk with their reps, usually after talking with their staff you get a better decision making of which provider to go with. Whichever you go with, always store your backups outside your web host so you will never be stuck with your web host whichever it is. All the best with your business growth!

My recommendation is Crocweb = LiteSpeed Web Server Pure Solid-State Drive Storage CloudLinux Operating System and more, see website. Crocweb currently has defense against Ddos attacks.

I am pretty sure that is the same with StableHost as well the only difference I see here is that SH puts a limit on the number of sub-accounts you can have where as Croc doesn't.

stablehost is taking more than 9 hours to answer my ticket (sales) is that normal?

Yes, that's pretty normal especially if you submitted it outside of their business hours for sales (if they don't answer sales 24/7).

I have used both in the past nothing recent but both have good setups and decent networks. I remember crocweb was a little slower then stable host but they were further away so I didn't mind it and overall was a good experience. My thoughts is you would be happy with either of them.

to Jay H: I don't think so, I submitted yesterday at 15:30. If that's not a working hour, what is it? In any case, how are usually they in their replies? fast, not so fast, slow?

They're both excellent and well-regarded providers. I don't think you could go wrong with either. Make sure you contact the sales departments of each, though, that way you'll get a better feel as to which one fits your needs better. Each web host has a different style, and particular styles work better with particular clients.

I have heard both companies are really fast to reply to support tickets (not sales) like less than a half hour. Thanks for all your answers, I think you're right I would be happy with each. I lean toward Stablehost, but they only allow 10 cPanel accounts on the small reseller account, I only use it for my own sites, so if I get over 10 sites I would have to use add on domains, which is the reason I walk away from shared hosting. I know I could upgrade, but I should be able to have more than 10 sites on a 10GB/200GB account. Then I think about Crocweb, they have many great reviews etc. And they seem to have fast stabile servers. But they don't look so established, almost nothing on their knowledge base etc. maybe there are more when logged into an account, but from the outside the site seems "empty" or something, maybe it's just me. I would like to hear some more opinions, thanks again. Last edited by knector; 03-18-2014 at 07:47 PM.

Why would you need separate control panels for each of your sites? Using a reseller account is giving you this option but it seems as though just having unlimited add-on domains would be good enough? You can also check out http://bigscoots.com for a reseller account. Justin and Scott are the 2 nicest people you will ever meet! They use the Datacenter SteadFast located in Chicago.

From a security POV, cPanel addon domains are terrible.

It also puts the resource usage against the main cPanel account there under. I don't really see why addon domains should be used any longer with the reseller account ability much better to place each site/domain under it's own seperate account even "sub-domains" should be as well.

I am with crocweb for 5 months now and I am very pleased about them.... smooth ride.

I believe The response time in a day's work should be in less than an hour. This should work in most serious companies.
