What are typical rates?

What are typical monthly rates for managing a Linux VPS? Fully managed. If you employ management, what do you pay? Thanks

Just checkout the different support providers sites which can be found in the WHT wiki link. Most of the support providers provide vps based support. From that you can findout whats the average cost for having a VPS managed.

I have seen Server Management companies charging anywhere from $10 - $30/month depending on the OS/control panel.

It depends where the company's staff is based. I think that any quality managed hosting services provider should charge at least $15 per hour and to include at least 3 - 4 in its monthly service management package.

There are many factors that are taken into considering for pricing, such as level of management (proactive vs reactive), level of support (level1, 2, 3), location of company (US vs offshore), the amount of support (limited or unlimited), etc. Other factors are based on the type of vps or server (the OS and control panel). But don't go just based on price, find a company that offers what you are looking for. Price is secondary to quality. Go through the list at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/wiki/Server_management and find the one that is right for you.

PSM gets my vote here. And they're only $30 a month.

I feel VPS 850C-U contains all the features and its range is 70-79.95€

Correct, price should not be the main decision point for any purchase. You need to focus on things like * Company experience in the industry * Company reviews in forums and other areas * Certifications like ISO, BS etc to prove that the company has approved systems and procedures in place * Free trial option, this will help you get a feel about the service before you sign a contract with the company * Go with a company that has a physical address and phone number in place * Go with a company that provides references (At least 2) * Pricing should be your last point. I would say go with the company provides you with quality service, quality comes with a price tag. If you can provide quality service for your customers then they will talk about your service and offerings to others which will result in more business for you. So you are only gaining by selecting a quality support provider. Last edited by blessen; 06-05-2009 at 10:00 AM.

We pay $35 a month. There are cheaper options though.

Most of the time I seen it included with VPS packages. Competition with VPS is starting to rapidly increase and anything you can offer that other people don't will help you in the end.

whats there link I have heard of them but never found anything I see around 30-40 dollars average but I have seen hosts do 10 and 50+ aswell

I use platinum server management which prices only 29$ per month. However, most of the time I dont require them so I'm thinking of getting rid of the management already coz it is just an extra cost for me.

It really depends what do you require for server management? Do you require only updating control panel software (let's say running a few times /scripts/upcp and easyapache for Cpanel) or you want your a company that optimizes the box, installs front-end web daemons, splits the load, employs memcached to speed things up etc....

Ok. I just wondered about very general rates. So, specifics shouldn't matter. In other words I was looking for an average between the bare minimum as you suggested in the first scenario and the premium rates that you suggested in the second. Sorry, I know it's a vague question. And vague answers would be fine. It's all good now though. I've found some answers. Thanks
