Does anyone has news from Steven (Rack911) ?

Posted by olympian, 05-10-2009, 12:18 PM
I'm a client (montly server management) of Rack911 and I didn't have any news from Steven since May 2nd... Moreover, since May 7th, support.rack911.com shows "License Error: Key file has expired". Does anyone know what happens ?

SSL certificate seems broken too. Doesn't look too good?

Posted by Victor Lugo, 05-10-2009, 04:06 PM
It seems he's not paying his bills.

Posted by bear, 05-10-2009, 04:14 PM
More like he's in the process of moving his home and some things have been understandably neglected. He recently posted he's being forced to move, IIRC.

Posted by olympian, 05-10-2009, 04:38 PM
Do you really think it's understandable not to warn a regular customer who paid his monthly bill ?

Posted by bear, 05-10-2009, 04:41 PM
No, I was referring to failing to keep up with subscriptions payments for software.

Posted by olympian, 05-10-2009, 04:48 PM
As this kind of software is the base for a server management activity, I think it's related; but thanks for your precision.

you asked for information about the person, he gave it. their site appears up, why not lookup contact info and try calling? or emailing other listed emails?

Steve is a very busy guy, let him settle back into his new place. Considering thousands of foreclosures are happening in USA every day, i think people had better get used to people move around a bit more

It sucks that he has to deal with these personal issues. Steven definitely has an excellent reputation on these forums, hopefully he is able to return to work soon!

Posted by tuxadmin, 05-11-2009, 03:59 PM
Steven seems to be a trustworthy person, wait to see whats his response to that maybe he has a good reason .

Posted by olympian, 05-11-2009, 04:57 PM
I'm pretty sure he has good reasons. After trying a lot of companies, I have to say that it's impossible to find a more talented server administrator at this monthly price (Admingeekz is fantastic but a lot more expensive). Unfortunately, my only solution now is to go for a fully managed host.

Posted by blessen, 05-12-2009, 01:04 AM
He might me held-up with some personal issues. So give him some time. I am sure he will be back asap to help his customers.

From what I know he was moving home, Internet connection may be a problem. Trying to contact him for some work too. But he is quite active on this forum. When he has the Internet connection, I think he will touch base with us.

i paid up for the next six months in advance... hope all of you are right! ** fingers crossed **

Posted by ayksolutions, 05-13-2009, 06:22 PM
Hopefully Steven will take care of this soon. Although he could have had his license or what set to automatically be paid...

Posted by chillax, 05-14-2009, 03:01 AM
no news... i tried calling him up on a number from one of the support tickets... no answers support.rack911.com .. License expired My site is down since yesterday and i did not ask for root access and so i can not even reset the system anyone knows which datacenter it is? can i directly ask people there to reboot my server?

Posted by Dan_EZPZ, 05-14-2009, 07:07 AM
From what I understand, he should be back online in the next couple of days. chillax: You're better off asking your own DC rather than Stevens - surely you know where your server is hosted?

Posted by chillax, 05-14-2009, 07:48 AM
i am a n00b as far as hosting and bla bla is concerned... i just paid steve to host my forum and he was doing an extremely wonderful job till day before yesterday... i know rack911 is the company... but the DC? i am clueless

Posted by net, 05-14-2009, 07:59 AM
DC means Data Center.

Posted by major, 05-14-2009, 09:33 AM
Too bad this. I just discovered. Have been with Rack911 since January and it has been OK. Good thing I only went with the $500 up front dedicated server - not the $2000 up front server I was considering. Paypal subscription stopped now. Time to look for another server etc. DOH!

Posted by boonchuan, 05-14-2009, 09:42 AM
Just a word on my own experiences. Steven sometimes will not complete the job he is tasked to but when if he does not, he will definitely refund. From all these years of experiences dealing with him, he had been absolutely honest and clean when it comes to payment.

boonchuan, I'm sure you are right - and certainly his reputation here on WHT is that you would expect such a thing. BUT - to just disappear this way is not acceptable. A simple email to all customers letting us know about these extraordinary circumstances would have been the proper thing to do. To just disappear for a week or more without a word is not. I happened to discover that he wasn't available by accident...

Posted by chillax, 05-15-2009, 02:49 AM
I agree with the comment above. Had i known he was leaving for X days I would have arranged for a SysAdmin to look at my server in the meantime, asked Steve for root password and what not... Losing on revenue and visitors, daily! Site down since past 4 days now and he is nowhere to be seen

Posted by hostquality, 05-15-2009, 03:19 AM
Sorry to inter a discussion on a company that I am not a client of, especially it has a good reputation here. But, I really feel sad to see such an incident happened from such a 'company', not a one-man start-up. Emergency scenarios are there .. anyone knows them, the easiest: bobcares and other hired sys admins, in case his all sys admins resigned accidentally in one day.. too bad! If I were him - like many companies do on WHT - I would assign a person to follow up this and other forums where I am a member , and also make a quick downtime notice email or autoreply... simple.

Only people with strong business ethics will become successful in their business . From posts here in WHT I feel Steven is one of them. Great going Steven :-)

Posted by major, 05-15-2009, 03:41 AM
Sure you will become successful in your business if you have strong business ethics - but just disappearing without a word doesn't really fit into that category in my opinion. And just letting customers like chillax suffer like this is outrageous. Prior to this Steven has had a great reputation, which is why I chose to work with him, but now I'm looking elsewhere. Fortunately I have the root password. ALWAYS make sure you get the root password - even if you let someone else manage it. That way you can more easily let others help you out in a situation like this.

It has to be manually uploaded. My ip does not stay the same long enough to get into my box.

thanks a lot steven Though i should have said this just after your post.. i just could not manage my time Though i wish this downtime had not happened at all... but i still think i am a HAPPY customer of rack911... life is not perfect Best of luck with your "affairs", i dont have ANY clue of what this foreclosure thing is, but it seems bad

Steven, I am sorry to contact you via the forum, but I have had trouble getting in contact with you. I know you are going through a lot, and I am sorry about that. I hope everything works out for you soon. Times like that can be trying. Hang in there. I *really* need to talk to you. I am dying on the vine over here. Please contact me ASAP to help resolve a few of the imminent issues. (these should only take a few minutes for you). We can wait on the server move until you are able to dedicate more time, but I need some of these things ASAP. I am officially in crisis mode again here. Thanks, KD Call ANY time...

Ah, ok, that makes sense. I hope you're back on track soon.

Are you back in action yet Steven? Thanks.

Posted by Steven, 07-08-2009, 10:48 PM
Yes. Responding to your ticket in full after I eat dinner

Posted by FourTwenty, 07-21-2009, 05:50 PM
13 days later i'm still waiting for you bro, what's the word? not sure if you are even getting my emails since my email server is the problem i'm waiting for you to fix. thanks.

Posted by CoolDavid, 07-25-2009, 05:24 PM
Wow you tried to contact him after 13 days of waiting. You're a very patient person. I once was with him. He's really great. Very knowledgable and know his stuff. But he could disappear for whatever reasons so that's why I left rack911. Hope he contact you as soon as possible to fix your problems.

Posted by FourTwenty, 07-25-2009, 05:58 PM
yeah, he does seem to be one of the best for sure, just wish the universe would stop screwing up his communications... i've been waiting for almost 6 months for him to get back on track... i am beginning to shop around at this point... wish he would reappear for good this time... will wait a little longer before committing to anyone else... good things come to those who wait... sending positive energy through the universe to Steven in hopes that he manifests again soon...
