help me decide between these management providers

Posted by feivi18, 08-07-2009, 06:24 PM
Hi everyone, After some thought, I've decided to go with a server management provider to take care of my dedicated Windows server (which I got with a provider who only offers self-managed servers). I don't want to have to deal at all with the server, I'll have enough to do as it is... I've narrowed it down to these three, and would appreciate any input you may have on the decision. I'm also willing to hear about other companies. Serverwizards.com, $75 month (serverwizards.com/smanagement.php) logicsupport.com $69.95 (logicsupport.com/systemadmin.php) phantomnoc.com $49.95 (Should I be worried about the cheaper price? They do offer weekly audits while logicsupport only offers monthly. phantomnoc.com/serveradmin.html) Thanks in advance!

Hi, Have you done your research can you dig up any dirt on them. If they are in India go for the cheaper one, They do not need to charge so much and the service will be basically the same between them. If you like serverwizards talk to them they will likely match the offer of say phantomnoc

Hi, For that kind of pricing I can recommend Motiv. He's well known on these forums and runs: http://windowshostingsupport.net/

Server Wizards is a great company. They do good quality work, and pretty quick too. Platinum Server Management is a good company too.

PSM doesn't do Windows management

I've been with LogicSupport for about 2 weeks now. And I can vouch for them. Their support/response has been extremely professional and 'on time'. They know their 'stuff' and they've done a very good job resolving every issue I have had with my server. I'm not sure where you read that they offer a monthly security audit, as I get a server audit report every week.

Their site only mentions monthly audits for the Windows plan.

We have been using logicsupport services for almost 14 months, good support team.

snipped>> I'm glad to hear that you've decided to ditch your current (and unnamed) server management company. From these three I recommend you to try the cheapest one (unless google turns up something nasty about them, but the same goes for the rest as well) and if they turn out to be slacking/rude/unresponsive/incompetent etc. you can always try out one of the others. It might be a good idea to ask them whether they support some 3rd party application if you'd like to use any (many server management companies don't support 3rd party applications). I personally, would never recommend anyone to choose a service because its cheap. My take on this is that, Quality service comes with a price tag. Go with a company that offers quality service because if you offer quality service to your customers then your customers will speak and recommend your service to others, which in turn will benefit you. So go for the best available service provider who is known for quality and not for cheap price. Its my personal view.

Of course you have to pay for quality. But if you see 3 companies and the only thing you know about them is their price, then how else could you judge them? And besides if the cheapest one turn out to be a bad one (or doesn't offer as much as the more expensive one) he can still move to the more expensive one. Sure, I'm biased as I'm cheap. But a company being more expensive doesn't necessarily mean it's better. That's why I recommend giving a shot to the cheaper one first

I agree. Going with a company solely on pricing alone is a bit risky. Money is a huge issue with me, but quality of service matters more. Make sure you do as much research as possible before you jump in.

Research reviews on net] + [ References ] + [Free trial ] = should help you choose the best company. This equation should work :-)

For all those who are recommending for cheap server management companies, should try considering several past review threads where people were pissed off and came ranting for the cheap server management provider they chose. It is a simple calculation i.e cheap services are inversely proposal to the quality of services offered. And this does not make sense to me that being in India, people do not deserve the best industry payments.. Experience and knowledge does matter and often the cheap providers do not qualify on either of them. IMO, you should pay for what you get... If you get the best, whats the harm in paying more to the system administrator who takes care of your business.. ! As in return you get a reliable provider who promises you complete peace of mind during your absence. Ofc, these are my personal views and just thought of sharing them ..!

I've used both server wizards as well as PSM, and both are very good imo. As everyone has already stated, just be sure to try and dig up any dirt that you can find. If a mgmt company isn't performing, you can be sure reports will be made here on WHT.

Any recent dealings with Server Wizards, I remember using them in 2006 and was EXTREMELY disappointed in their services. I am wondering if they got their crap together or not.

To the OP: have you managed to decide between the service providers?

Posted by sharmaine1111, 09-07-2009, 09:14 AM
to OP: Are you still open to other option? I don't really have any feedback or experience with the companies you mentioned but I know that supportsages is really a great management company. You can't go wrong with them. You can chat with their live chat support and probably they can give you a discount
