New Reseller Question

Posted by Genetix, 02-13-2014, 04:17 AM
Hello everyone, I am interesting in starting a web hosting company and had a few questions. I came across Hostgator and Green Geeks and they appear to offer decent reseller packages. I was wondering if there are any resellers that would allow me to offer Web Hosting, Dedicated Servers, and VPNs. Would you guys recommend for a beginner just focusing on selling web hosting or attempt to offer everything? Thanks!

I think you need to plan your business direction. Find out what is missing in the market and what you can offer that many many many many others cannot offer. Surf through the Reseller Hosting Offers. There are plenty of offers from providers to choose from.

Everywhere Cpanel resellers you can find, for vps and dedicated you should make a special deal with providers. First contact some providers and find they allow or not reselling vps, dedi etc

Im moving from green geeks, the first 2 years waas great.... unfortunately one of mi cosumers have a large mailing lists, and greengeeks suspend all my accounts because "they have a zero tolerance spam policy" My due date to pay invoices its the first of mont... in february first they send me an advise at 1:19, i paid the invoice by 1:25 and at 1:45 i get my account suspended.... i opened several tickets and in 12 hours didnt get any answer. Finally, if you dont agree with something (i mean the slow support, bad answers, etc) they say... "if you dont like, move to another server" So... after 2.5 years.... im going to change the hosting provider

I would suggest you to research for a best reseller account and contact their sales manager to get a vps/dedicated reseller custom plan along with your shared reseller plan which would be best for you.

First make some shared hosting customers then try to sell VPS however its depend on your strength. With reseller hosting plan you can learn how to manage shared hosting clients, dealing,etc..

Hello Luis, I am the Quality Assurance Director for GreenGeeks. <> Firstly I am sorry to hear that you have elected to cancel your hosting services with GreenGeeks we are certainly sorry to see you go. If there is anything I can do to maintain your services I'd love to do so, just reach out to our Quality Assurance team inside your GreenGeeks Account Manager! For the general public, you are certainly correct. GreenGeeks has a zero tolerance policy for SPAM on our network. This is pretty much standard with all hosting providers, as the actions taken by you and your customers actually effects others as well. Continual spam violations on RBL's such as SpamCop/SORBS etc. can result in an entire "c" block of IP's being banned. This then means all customers with IP's in that range are unable to send mail. GreenGeeks does have partnerships with Dedicated Mailing List providers such as iContact which you can utilize to insure your email is CANSPAM compliant and avoid any suspensions / warnings for abusive activity. i would stay away from green geeks. they look enticing in the beginning because they offer "unlimited" everything and you only pay per account. their marketing is brilliant and completely misleading. it's not "unlimited." "unlimited" to them is completely subjective and they will shut your account down whenever they feel that you are using too many resources. you have to read the fine print to find that out, or find out like i did when they shut your stuff down and your client's stuff down.

Hello Shaun, I'm sorry to hear you have faced problems with GreenGeeks. Do you have a support ticket so that I can review the issues you faced? I would love to review the matter and resolve any complications your facing. You can forward this off directly to me at jdargie@greengeeks.com. To address the concerns raised, GreenGeeks does offer unlimited web storage and bandwidth for all customers with some of our customers currently utilizing well over 300GB of data from an audit just completed earlier this month. We do not however allow our servers to be used as a download or backup storage facility. All content hosted must be used directly in the operation of your website and must be content that you own or have rights to publish. Additionally GreenGeeks does not suspended accounts over potential violations of this policy unless the owner has failed to reply within seven (7) days from our notice.

Hey Josh, Thanks for the kind response and your effort to remedy my frustration. It's a bit late though. We've already switched providers. Cheers!

You don't have to stick to only one reseller if you are planning to resell Web Hosting, Dedicated Servers, and VPNs. There are many companies out there which can help you and you are not limited to only one.

Lets all be honest here You should 100% just start out with Shared hosting. Why? Because you need to find a reliable provider to offer hosting before anything. Secondly, your gonna want to gain experience dealing with shared clients, and their problems/issues. Your also gonna want to work out all the kinks in your business as well. After you have run for a few months, and got comfortable, then you might want to RESEARCH for a provider to sell more advanced hosting. Again you ask why? First, what type of experience do you have? Do you know how to run/handle/fix VPS, and dedicated servers if they were to go down? If the anwser is no, then I wouldn't focus on those right now. If the anwser is yes...continue on. Your going to want to research for a company (even the current one you signed up with) who can offer you the service to resell their VPS, Cloud, and Dedicated Servers. Second, your going to want to test them out for a bit, and trust them 299%....The trust here is crucial since your putting YOUR clients data, onto a server you have no control over in a sense. Most bigger companies, and even smaller ones offer a partner plan. You will get a 5% - 25% discount normal on all services depending how many servers you have, and what not.

Just to put my two cents in here, shared website hosting requires less overhead and less business\hosting experience than VPS or Dedicated reseller hosting - far less. Before we had our own VPS Hosting services, I was hammering the helpdesk of my host, constantly asking technical questions that they knew the answers to. Are you willing and able to offer higher level technical support to folks who are buying your VPS hosting? If you're here asking about how to start a web hosting business, my suggestion is to start with Shared Hosting and work your way up. Good Luck!
