Shifting from Reseller to VPS - Suggestions for stable budget option

Posted by saadbm, 12-13-2015, 06:23 AM
I am trying to shift from my current re-seller. I have about 10 websites on my re-seller with minimal traffic and 2 expect a million hits a day. My budget is around 25USD per month. Can anyone suggest a good stable managed vps with cpanel in this budget? I have heard hostgator and bluehost are not as good as they used to be? Is Dreamhost any good? What RAM size should I go for? $25 seems to be too low..still you have options based on your requirements.... 1. Do you need any control panel on your VPS? 2. Are you looking for a managed or unmanned solution? 3. What is the location preferred?

These questions are spot on. Could you also provide us with what powers the two sites that are expecting 1 million hits a day? Are they Wordpress, Joomla, Concrete5 or static HTML sites - this can change the amount of RAM and CPU Cycles you'll need.

Yes, cPanel and Managed solution without dedicated team. I think the best locations I know of are US and UK, how would location affect my hosting?

Location will increase the latency (Time it takes for the request to travel to the server and back) If you live on the East coast of America an American East Coast hosted server is ideal as you're physically closer to your server, meaning you can communicate with it 'faster'. When going with a host in a country you also abide by their laws, for example if you were hosting in Australia you couldn't legally host any pornographic content or copyrighted materials.

If most of your visitors are from the US, then its important to host your website on a server in the US, and if most of your visitors are in Europe then its important to host it somewhere in Europe such as the UK or France. The closer your server to your visitors, the better connection they will have. Your budget is low for a managed VPS with cPanel, but its acceptable for an unmanaged one. Managed: Knownhost, FutureHosting, tmzvps. Unmanaged: Ramnode, Linode, BudgetVM. You can also check the VPS hosting offers section as there are more good companies there.

You would probably get a 1 - 2GB RAM VPS with cPanel for that price , and when you say managed you may want to increase your budget, or re think if you really need fully managed service.

you can get unmanaged VPS for $25/month with 2 GB RAM. Since you have only 10 websites, I think you can go for it. But I would recommend you to increase your budget and try for managed VPS to have an hassle free hosting. Also as your website increases, it is good to have a managed VPS unless you are an expert in handling technical issues on your own.

Check Knownhost VPS. You can get fully managed 2GB VPS including Cpanel for $35. Check their Holiday Promotion at Offer section or their website. Last edited by User is Admin; 12-14-2015 at 09:56 AM. Reason: typo

If I look at some of our other clients doing around 2M hits on sites a day, I'd say you'd need a little more RAM and maybe more than 1 vCPU. Also check the processing power of the VPS provider allocates to a vCPU, some set it at 500mhz, some 1ghz, some just contend it.

Avoid EIG unless you want constant headaches.

Thanks for the recommendation.

For $25 you are not going to get a managed VPS. I think the ballpark region your should be looking $ wise is. $40. This will give you approx 2GB RAM cPanel / WHM Licence Management Check out the offers section Look for locations - but don't just take the lowest price - try them out for a couple of days, most providers have a money back guarantee for at least a week or so.
