Looking for inexpensive unmanaged VPS NOT on COLO CROSSING

Posted by opentoe, 05-01-2016, 07:47 PM
Every VPS I had was on COLO CROSSING and every one of them I had to cancel because of constant blacking listing and DDOS attacks. And this is with a brand new account. Just another IP address someone else had that probably had the same problem. Everything on LowEndBox is COLO CROSSING, so maybe things will be different here? I'm in the US / East Coast looking for a fast VPS. Unmanaged, no cPanel, and the options to change templates/OS's at anytime I need to. At least 2GB memory, at least 60GB space and prefer 1Gb port. Just one IP. Maybe someone can even recommend one? I'm already with KnownHost on a managed VPS which is costly, but they have been superior with their services so I don't do any dev work on there or anything. Can't afford a 2nd costly VPS. I went to check out their unmanaged services Rocket VPS but they are consolidating everything into managed and no longer have unmanaged anymore. Thanks.

Colocrossing is known for spammers hideout. How much is your budget for unmanaged vps?

Everytime I look at Lowendbox my mind gets cheap. I see services like this below for unbelievably cheap and of course I know they just oversell and pretty much their entire network is probably blacklisted. Since I want an unmanaged VPS, with the ability to change the template at anytime I would think $10-$12/month is fair. I think that's fair because I'm paying $33/month for a fully managed at KnownHost which is a premium price. So wanting less then half of that premium price seems fair to me. And that has 2GB, 16+ shared CPU's and has never been blacklisted once or DDOS attacked. I use their SMTP for two small businesses all the time. Is it possible to even find an inexpensive unmanaged VPS that isn't oversold and blacklisted all the time? I think this is why we see more and more places switching to 'managed' and slapping on the premium prices. Hire a tech to watch the blacklists and remove ASAP.

What do you consider reasonable to pay? Is SSD important?

I posted what I thought was a reasonable price in my previous post. Would prefer SSD, but doesn't have to have it.

Ah, sorry, missed that! I should mention that $33/mo is not a premium price - KnownHost just has good deals! you'll find similar setups for upwards of $60, which I'd consider premium. As for $10-12, that seems doable if it's not RAID SSD! You don't seem to require any huge amounts of resources. As for providers in that range, I don't know any right off the top of my head - but I'd advise checking the VPS Offers. OpenVZ can sell quite cheap (make sure to select a provider with a solid track record though!).

It will mostly be for dev work for a few people. Must be something around that doesn't get blacklisted everyday.

I would recommend checking the offers section for getting a good deal. There you can find many hosts with offers and based on your requirements and budget, you will be able to shortlist a few. After that, check for their reviews or contact the hosts straight and see if they would be able to satisfy your requirements. Whichever host you go with, make sure you go after quality, and not after cheap price.

Leaseweb in Virginia fits your requirements exactly. 2GB RAM/ 60 GB Disk/ 2 cores/ 6 TB transfer / 1 Gbps port for $9.95 monthly. KVM virtualization. SSD SAN storage. They're very reliable and their servers aren't overloaded, and they have an excellent network. I have VPS with them in their Amsterdam and Singapore locations. Not true, I'd say the majority of offers there are a fairly even mix of people renting cheap servers from ColoCrossing and from OVH. The OVH resellers might even outnumber the ColoCrossing resellers these days. You need to train your mind to resist the allure of cheap. The majority of offers posted on LowEndBox are oversold OpenVZ offers from 1 (or 2) man home based businesses, many of whom have little experience in running a business and so there is a high rate of business failure (not to mention downtime and a million excuses for poor incompetent support and slow response times). There are some good hosts who advertise there but you really need to do your research before buying anything: look for reviews on the hosts, check to make sure they are actually a company (i.e. registered business...many are not) and see how long they've been in business, check the reputation of their IP space on Spamhaus, SenderBase, etc Last edited by domainbop; 05-02-2016 at 04:24 AM.
