OpenNebula and Xen?
Posted by LandonM, 09-27-2010, 04:27 PM |
I was wondering if anyone is current using the OpenNebula and Xen setup for a private cloud, and what your thoughts are on OpenNebula in general?
I am planning on setting up a private cloud for testing and research purposes, any advice and/or feedback is appreciated.
Thanks,
Landon

I had a quite long chat with someone from an australian vps/cloud hoster a few weeks ago. according to him, opennebula was the only one really usable/stable for use.
this was comparing to cloudstack, eucalyptus etc. and I got the impression he really tested (and ditched) most of them for opennebula.
one more thing - if you try it, start with version 2.0 right away. 1.4 wont be around much longer i think.

Wow, thanks a lot for the info! I have been reading up on OpenNebula for the last few weeks and it definitely sounds solid. I hope it won't be too terribly hard to implement. I am going to start testing on some boxes at home here pretty soon. I will try and post some of my results as I go along.
Any other thoughts or advice?

OpenNebula is solid. Although I've read that it is not certified to be used in production as of yet. The only drawback I would say is that there is no GUI for it yet, as the entire program works on a command line interface.

Is it possible to use OpenXenManager with OpenNebula and Xen? If so, how would that work exactly? Any ideas?
