I'm in need of some cloud or NAS storage that I can mount on my server. I'm looking for something that is at a reasonable price. I think I will be starting with about 2 TB of storage. I don't really need any of the fancy features of some of these like multiple data centers. I just really need basic things like the ability to mount it on my server as a drive. Does anyone know of any that might be able to fit my need? Thanks

Check out http://www.open-e.com. You can get a 60 trial and load it up on a USB drive for testing. They also have a DSS lite version free that is limited to 2tb but can be expanded. Use you own hardware so you can keep the costs affordable.

are you looking for a hosted solution rent a dedicated and put it on there? or for a slice of someones managed SAN?

I'm looking more of a slice of a san. I don't want to run the storage my self. I want something like amazon S3 but that costs too much for the amount of storage I need to start with, so thats why I was also looking for a simple NAS solution since some of them look cheaper then something like S3. But every place I'm finding is around $200 a month for 2 TB starting, but I could just buy another 2 TB drive for my server for a $100 one time fee and be done with this for another 2 months. I would rather not do that, so I'm not dealing with this issue again in 2 months.

Well, for a provider part of the issue is transfer. When you're buying 2TB of space they're expecting at least 2TB of transfers which in a Data Center environment is not free. Beyond that, these providers are using all enterprise environments from hardware, software, management of that environment, failover and redundancy, scalability, their employees, business overhead, etc. It's going to cost more than just adding local storage to your own server, so I'm not sure what kind of pricing you're hoping for but it won't be comparable to $100 upfront.

you are comparing apples to oranges. if you just want the cheapest storage possible then put a sata drive in your computer and call it a day. If you want a san - that is highly available and good performance then you will need to pay more because these are raided systems and you can access some of them from multiple locations. You really need to classify what you need - so far i hear: 1. price 2. performance 3. security / availability 4. someone else to manage it 5.. access from multiple locations every one of these that you add you take on more cost. I would not go with open-e - that is the bottom of the line san setup and you can do a search and see how many problems there are with it. what is the data you need to store? Is it backed up anywhere? is it critical that it be online all the time? How much would it cost you if it was down for a day or you lost it?

Why not get an old server, load it up with harddrives and use openfiler or some other NAS solution
