Differing port sizes and traffic.

As a non-tech, I'm trying to better understand dedi-server offers.
I'm confused by this...
A 1 Gbps port with 20TB bandwidth is standard.
Optional unmetered on 100Mbps port is plus $20.
Isn't 20TB about the most you'd realistically get through a 100Mbps port anyway?
So isn't it better to have the larger port and thus be able to handle more simultaneous traffic?

Depends what you do, as 20TB both inbound and outbound traffic is counted a 100 mbps port can theoretically do 32GB in both ways for a theoretical maximum of 64GB.
In most scenario's it would be better, in some scenario's 100 Mbps is better. Unmetered is also a good option if you do not expect a lot of peaks but would not want any surprises on the invoice for overusage.

@swiftnoc... Ah, understood.
Thanks for clarifying.

If you pegged it 24x7 you would average 32.85 TB per month.
If you don't see the server hitting or going over 20TB, get the gig port. No reason not to.

Like @SneakySysadmin said, this all depends on whether you anticipate exceeding 20TB. 1Gbps versus 100Mbps - go with the former rather than the latter.

These are shared ports? How many simultaneous connections are you anticipating?

Thanks to all for your help here. With it, I now understand more about what's available and am thus better placed to make a choice.
