This is a really bad idea, if your server has some hardware problem it can get corrupted.

What will you be using this server for? Why Canada? Servers in the USA are much cheaper in comparison to Canada. Electricity bills here are CRAZY!

What does fundamental management plan mean? Is this server fully-managed? It does seem to be quite pricey but on the other hand, if it is a reputable hosting provider with good reviews, it is fully-managed and it has DDoS protection that stops all of the attacks you experience - I think it's not a bad deal.

Fundamental Management Plan - 24/7 Emergency Support 100% Network Uptime SLA 100% Power Uptime SLA 1 Hour Hardware Replacement SLA 10 Events for the first month, then 3 Events per month of On-Demand System Administrator Support Wide range of supported software DDoS Protection up to 10 Gbps up to 6 hours Also, since - Extra Storage : 2 X 1 TB HDD SATA3 7200RPM (Connected via USB2) <------ This will act as backup ----------- is a bad idea (user54321), what would be a good idea for backup? Offsite or at least separate hardware. A backup connected to the machine is ok for a quick local Backups but they should not be relied upon as the sole backup.

This is very expancive even for Canada. You can find cheaper.

If you don't understand why people order servers in Canada, you're missing out on a significant market (especially in today's political climate).

You ideally want to have off-site backups (meaning a server hosted in another data center), or at the very least backups on a separate server. You don't have to use a dedicated server for this purpose, you can get a small VPS and with many providers you'll be able to customize the VPS package to your needs (larger disk space). There doesn't seem to be anything included with the server you mentioned in your original post to warrant such a high price tag as a lot of the things included with their management plan are pretty common these days. If you continue looking it shouldn't be too hard to find a provider who can provide you with a comparable package at a lower price point, even with the higher operating costs in Canada.

How is this expensive? A dual CPU with 64GB RAM, 2x1TB SSD, and 33TB bandwidth with limited management and DDoS protection for $380? Sounds like a steal to me. The only thing missing is offsite backups, e.g. R1soft. Get them to throw that in with the price, and you are golden. Of course, this all depends on the quality of the network / data center. If this is with a budget provider like Nocix, then you are paying way too much. But for a quality provider? I'd jump on it.

For example OVH offer 1 gbps port with 300 or 500 mbit guaranteed 16 cores, 128 GB RAM, one of the best DDos Protection for 199 usd this price is okay but 500 CAD i think is very expanceive

You can find a little better config on here from different providers for around the same price or better. I would recommend setting it up in Raid 10 and then use r1soft as backup or something

You must have missed the part where I said this price is too much for a budget provider, which OVH is. If you are comfortable with OVH, then go with OVH. You will save money, but don't expect anything beyond that.

Thanks for all the info guys, really appreciate it!

Whats the problem with OVH? Budget provider is kimsufu or so you start. I don't see any reason pay 2 times more. OVH is one of most popular DC in the world and they have normal service and managed servers.

Posted by Lakjin, 02-18-2017, 05:27 PM
No problem with OVH if you need no assistance beyond server delivery.

Could you please explain what you mean? I'am sorry for your bad experience with OVH, i have problems with them too but it was solved quick.

From what I've seen across various message boards their customer service/technical support (even via phone) leaves much to be desired, especially as of lately.

15 day response times are completely acceptable. I have no clue what you're on about.

Posted by serversget, 02-19-2017, 06:56 PM
Hm.. Not sure its true about 15 days, i think its just impossible. But i'am sorry if its true, its very bad, have you try to call or send more tickets? I have delay with response about 3 days in kimsufi but in ovh 24 hours normally reply. I am agree 24 hours is not good too, many DC provide much faster support, but anyway there is no guarantie that you will get better service for 500 CAD. OVH - reliable service, not good but its cheap and stable

This would be a fair deal if it was enterprise class servers from Dell or HP, but Sata drives gives it away that is over the counter commodity hardware, possibly colocated in decent data center but I would check on that. If you are going to spend that much, get straight from Data Center it is hosted in and you will get far more for your money that will be on hardware built to last. Happy Hunting.

This offer is too expensive for Canda, as mentioned before you should be able to get a better deal.
