D'Planet is down?

Posted by TotalChoice - Bill, 10-08-2003, 10:38 AM
Is it just our servers or is d' planet down again?

Posted by DaMan, 10-08-2003, 10:42 AM
We cannot ping ours either.

Posted by Przemek, 10-08-2003, 10:43 AM

Down for me... 69.56.183.*

Posted by TotalChoice - Bill, 10-08-2003, 10:54 AM
They need to get it together. We have already cancelled all our servers there but this one. Weekly outages are not what I want from my datacenter. Bah!

Posted by kifos, 10-08-2003, 10:54 AM
Again. The last outage was like 2 weeks ago wasn't it? It's my first month with them and I really expected better from them..

Posted by TotalChoice - Bill, 10-08-2003, 10:56 AM
Lets just hope this isnt one of the 7 - 9 hour outages like last time. Egads!

ours down too. We just signed up b/c of the great things I've heard from this board. Now I'm worried...

Posted by Przemek, 10-08-2003, 10:59 AM
Our server which is down - 69.56.158.* . Their main website www.servermatrix.com is working but after looking at traceroutes there's a problem after "dsr1-v1.dllstx2.theplanet.com"

Does ServerMartrix dedicated server down most of the time? Comapre ServerMartrix with Rackshack and Server4you, which is better?

Posted by bagfull, 10-08-2003, 11:13 AM
still down... 80% data loss....

Posted by centrahost, 10-08-2003, 11:13 AM
Don't be worried. You made a great choice! ALL DC's have problems. DONOT let this board make you think otherwise. We use 8 Data Centers and they ALL "GO DOWN" from time to time. Our servers at ThePlanet are up at the moment. This looks like a local issue probably in the same VLAN by the looks of the IP ranges. ThePlanet is one of the best decisions you could have made.

Posted by nmedia, 10-08-2003, 11:14 AM
We are back up too. Anybody know the total down time of that one?

Posted by centrahost, 10-08-2003, 11:16 AM
Here is the math... Rackshack = Servermatrix > server4you Server4you does not belong in this equation.

I knew I should have checked here before reporting it in orbit.

Posted by Matt, 10-08-2003, 11:22 AM
Your monitor should tell you, looking at those affected, it seems to vary by what block you were on.

Posted by Alex042, 10-08-2003, 11:48 AM
Is there a monitoring tool I don't know about in orbit? or are you referring to an outside monitoring service?

But you have to admit thePlanet has had quite a few lately. Also (and this still makes me uneasy) ticket support just sits there, but as soon as you call there's someone there. I don't like having to make calls at 3AM in the morning, just look at the tickets please.... (and note I always way 25-30 minutes before I call) I'm still giving them this month to prove themselves....

Posted by Alex042, 10-08-2003, 12:41 PM
Sometimes but not always. I've had some tickets that were responded to and resolved within a few minutes and others a few days. If it's an important issue and they don't respond within your expected timeframe, at least they have 24hr phone coverage.

Ive been using ThePlanet since April and have only 1 hardware problem (They added a new ram chip, and 2 months later, it killed the box). That was a 4 hour downtime (We thought it was a hack gone bad) as I worked with their night tech to figure out the problem. Other than that, I have had a total downtime of about 180 seconds (90 seconds for the ram upgrade itself, and 2 reboots for new kernels down the line). This was a server from before "Server Matrix" came around, but I recently added one of their $79 to my list also. No downtime yet. Hopefully they are getting the bugs worked out of this new network of theirs.

True, but aren't the tickets supposed to be the 1st and foremost way of getting support? Anyhow, I'm still trialing them. The techs do try and so did Jeff (@ the planet)....

Reboots take an hour. They missed a hardware replacement window twice. Billed me for 2 servers I cancelled, still waiting for the $700 credit. Network Issues weekly it seems. Hopefully it will get better, at this point it cant get much worse from my point of view.

Posted by inteltechs, 10-08-2003, 04:37 PM
if you call them, then it usually takes a few mins for a reboot.

Posted by bagfull, 10-08-2003, 05:03 PM
Downtime is surely a trouble... but I had some problem with a dll file 2 days back and I was thrown out of my terminal services, there was no way out other than a reboot. I generated a reboot ticket (must be around 3:30AM in Texas)... the server was rebooted within 10 minutes!
