My sites hosted at dathorn's server cpanel14 are up but dathorn.com is down.

Posted by Dathorn-Andrew, 03-07-2004, 12:37 PM
All of our own site, forums, etc. are currently down and it's going to be a somewhat long process to get all of this back to normal operation (several days). All customer servers should be operating just fine and we will continue to make sure it stays this way. There will be more information available on http://69.56.244.29/ within the next hour or so. For the time being you can use that address to stay up-to-date and we will also be setting up a support e-mail address to try and continue support as best as we can without our ticket system.

The name servers are not responding. Last edited by jeffreym; 03-07-2004 at 01:24 PM.

So what actually happened? Hardware failure or Hack?

Posted by fuse1982, 03-07-2004, 02:33 PM
dathorn's main site is down but all my websites at different servers are up. cpanel is working, but not WHM, is it related to Cpanel licensing? Anyway, as long as our websites won't be down for serveral day, it will be okay. Good luck Andrew! i wish i could help.

Posted by Dathorn-Andrew, 03-07-2004, 02:40 PM
Hardware failure. Our main server had always been at RackShack and I was just getting ready to finalize everything for a move elsewhere. Now we're stuck waiting on RackShack to restore the the system so that we can take a look at the old drive. Meanwhile, we're waiting for the DNS changes on dathorn.com to take affect.

Posted by Dathorn-Andrew, 03-07-2004, 02:47 PM
Please see http://69.56.244.29/ and send us an e-mail regarding the WHM issue. This goes for anyone else that has any problems as well, I don't mean to clutter WHT with a Dathorn support thread.

Posted by UH-Matt, 03-07-2004, 03:34 PM
Good luck Andrew, hardware failure sucks!

Can't access into their main site since last night? Dot com and .net boths are down. When you type dot net it take you to this ***********, but it's down. Any one! Last edited by ice-man2020; 03-07-2004 at 03:39 PM.

Thx....

Why dot net take us to unithostingdotnet?

Posted by intellec, 03-07-2004, 03:57 PM
I noticed that dathorn.net goes to *********** too. But it does not seem to be connected to Dathorn.com Just a coincidence that both sites dont work

Posted by ice-man2020, 03-07-2004, 04:01 PM
I hope dathorn box didn't get hack or anything!!!If that case they should tell us the true. It doesn't seems right to me.

Posted by mystro, 03-07-2004, 04:18 PM
the cpanel35 server seems to be quite unresponsive since late last night ;\

Posted by Dathorn-Andrew, 03-07-2004, 04:30 PM
All servers, cpanel35 included, have been running just fine. But due to the fact that DNS for our "anonymous" domain that is used for nameservers and hostnames, there may be some issues from some locations. dathorn.net has been registered to that other business for a while. They have absolutely nothing to do with us and I could care less as to whether or not they want to continue the poor business practices (obviously they don't either). Once again, please do not clutter WHT with Dathorn specific issues, that's not what it is for. I've given you a link with information on how to contact us for the time being (http://69.56.244.29/).

Posted by UH-Matt, 03-07-2004, 04:48 PM
I contacted that company some time ago because there name is just 2 letters different to ours. They had alos stolen most the wording from across pages on our website.

All websites on cpanel22 is down. I only hope they will be back soon because I am in the process of negotiating a web project. When can I expect to use my websites on cpanel22?

Posted by kylec, 03-09-2004, 01:43 PM
Webhostingtalk.com is not the appropriate place for support inquires, as it says on Dathorn.com support is being handled through email temporally until the ticket system is back up. Send an email to support@dathorn.com if you are still having problems. Currently cpanel22 looks fine to me. It may be an issue with your account specifically. -kylec

Posted by gallnetworks, 03-09-2004, 05:22 PM
cpanel 22 has been down about 10 hours the last 2 weeks. I was told it was caused by a client - always is apparently. I can't reach dathorn by the link above, it just times out. I'm guessing it is just down temporarily?

Posted by ReliableSol, 03-09-2004, 05:36 PM
Yeah, I am getting a blank white page on that IP address link as well. CP19 seems to be now having issues.

Posted by ReliableSol, 03-09-2004, 05:40 PM
Update: CP19 now working. Must have been a reset.

Posted by ChrisTech, 03-09-2004, 05:50 PM
goto www.dathorn.com and email their support. WHT isnt their support forum.

Posted by gallnetworks, 03-09-2004, 06:07 PM
Unless you moderate here, mind your own business. All of dathorn is down and I replied to a post.

Posted by kylec, 03-09-2004, 07:14 PM
There is currently major problems at the Planet. Tons of servers are down. The unofficial word is that it being caused by a ARP packet storm. this will affect most of dathorns customer servers at The Planet. dathorn.com hasnt been affected (as far as i can tell) -kylec

Posted by ChrisTech, 03-09-2004, 07:35 PM
Same here Kylec, Im at Dathorn, I can load their main page up (the simple html file that it is now) and read that news this morning. All of my sites hosted @ Dathorn (Cpanel08 & Cpanel24) are up and running. Cpanel08 sites seem to be running a bit slow, those on Cpanel24 seem fine though.

Posted by kylec, 03-09-2004, 08:00 PM
well cpanel 24 is at rackmy.com so it would be unaffected. cpanel08 is having latency issues: http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/tracer...anel08.gzo.com http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/ping.c...anel08.gzo.com

Posted by ChrisTech, 03-09-2004, 08:02 PM
Doh, forgot about that....but that was the reason I got that account. =P

Posted by techsla, 03-09-2004, 08:13 PM
I cant seem to see it, also a lot of my sites are very slow.....

Posted by Pheaton, 03-09-2004, 08:19 PM
yeah, its up. Their sector of the network is experiencing problems.

Posted by FW-Mike, 03-09-2004, 08:22 PM
I am having the same problem -- hope its fixed soon!

Posted by thedavid, 03-09-2004, 08:23 PM
Moved to network outages forum.

Posted by Dathorn-Andrew, 03-09-2004, 08:29 PM
FYI, dathorn.com would be affected during this as it is temporarily hosted at The Planet but it is a simple text page right now so it doesn't take much to get loaded. We're hoping for a solution soon.

Posted by etLux, 03-09-2004, 08:54 PM
This appears to have cleared some time ago... when thePlanet finally apparently changed out that errant router. Last edited by etLux; 03-09-2004 at 09:00 PM.

The dathorn.com domain didn't resolve for me until about 10am pacific time this morning, so I suspect that added to the confusion. I was connecting via the IP address given earlier in this thread.

Posted by idhosting, 03-10-2004, 07:29 AM
This is definitely a difficult situation for those that are affected by this outage. I would like to appluade Andrew for his efforts at keeping an open channel of communication with his customer base and working to resolve the problem. We're all quick to make critisizms when things are handled poorly. I just think he and his team should be recognized for their efforts in working to make things right.

Posted by ChowSumDung, 03-10-2004, 04:39 PM
Ever since this "outage" happened, support responses are practically non existant. I've sent out 4 support requests over the past few days (which are most likely not related to this outage) and only received one response so far. Usually, I get responses within 4hrs max. Is there a problem with the support@dathorn.com address? I'm wondering if any of my emails are getting through or Dathorn is just backlogged with support emails.

Posted by Dathorn-Andrew, 03-10-2004, 05:15 PM
If you sent an e-mail saying a server was down, the issue was fixed but in some cases replies weren't sent. This is especially true from yesterday as we got hundreds of e-mails because of The Planet's network problems. You can send them again if you like and I will look into them as I can't possibly recall every e-mail. If it was overlooked, I apologize.

I´m abroad US, my websites didn´t work at all for 4 days please test www.avanzar.org www.redexpertos.com www.observatoriomujeresyderechos.org DNS related trouble, no ISP or Dathorn help at all Thx Last edited by cuantica; 03-11-2004 at 12:01 AM.

Please see the URL that I mentioned earlier in the thread (http://69.56.244.29). WHT is not a means of support. There are two e-mail addresses mentioned on that page that you can contact us and that page will even load simply via "dathorn.com" from almost everywhere at this point. Edit: Actually, after having read this, we've been dealing with this customer for several days now and the problems are related to this user's ISP (DNS).

Posted by cuantica, 03-11-2004, 08:58 AM
Andrew reply is correct, my problem isn´t at Dathonr, it is with ISPs DNS, but surprisingly no ISP here at Colombia resolves my domains. And I have no way to enforce them (ISPs) to update their DNS tables. I started a new thread to see if anyone can help me http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...hreadid=246548 Last edited by cuantica; 03-11-2004 at 09:05 AM.

Posted by aqi32, 03-11-2004, 01:55 PM
my sites are unaccessible, i see more threads about the planet and server matrix slowing down, are there continued problems?

Posted by Dathorn-Andrew, 03-11-2004, 02:21 PM
If you are one of our customers, please e-mail us as was previously directed. We are experiencing no issues at The Planet.

Posted by dean-ircomdesign, 03-11-2004, 02:43 PM
I also have the same problem with aqi32. By the way andrew, i have emailed you a few mins ago.

Posted by aqi32, 03-11-2004, 03:11 PM
i've spoken to andrew and he can access my sites fine, i can ping the sites fine and i just decided to try an anonymous provider (basically a proxy) and i can access them fine throught that?? really weird, seems to be isp related, but i can access another account's sites i have with dathorn on a different server? but no real skin off my nose as i can clearly see my sites are up and running fine which is the most important thing

Posted by dean-ircomdesign, 03-11-2004, 03:22 PM
About 3-4 hours ago, i cannot access theplanet.com website neither servermatrix.com but everything is back to normal now. My site with dathorn is now accessible but very slow though.

Andrew, Just read this thread. If there is anything my team can do to help you thru this please drop me a line. Anything you need , from hardware to extra techs, please advise and we will be there to help. Although we fight for the same marketshare, we would be more than willing to lend a hand if needed. Good luck.

Hi, I've a problem here, and don't know if the rest face the same thing? The index pages of all my sites are replaced by a spanish site called "Sua Conta"? What was wrong?? I've emailed to Andrew but got no replies from him, hence this post here. Anyone got this same problem here? By the way, I'm on Cpanel23 Appleton

Posted by Dathorn-Andrew, 03-12-2004, 02:23 AM
This should be fixed now. It appears that there is a very nice "feature" in cPanel to let users run commands as root. Neat-o.

Posted by appleton007, 03-12-2004, 12:00 PM
Thanks andrew for the help....but will it happen again? no security patches? if that's the case how can you ensure that this will not ever happen again? what are the preventive measures that you will take? please advise as this is indeed very dangerous..imagine someone does this again? my clients cannot accept this..surfing to their sites and seeing some spanish site instead.

Posted by Dathorn-Andrew, 03-12-2004, 01:23 PM
In all honesty, we cannot do anything about this nor can we prevent this. These are mistakes on cPanel's part that no one knew of until they blew up today and since then cPanel has released over 6 different EDGE builds correcting things to solve this issue.

Posted by appleton007, 03-13-2004, 02:53 PM
yeah..hopefully cpanel will get this solved asap...thanks for the info andrew!

I think support is down also, Every email will be with no reply. I have send URGENT email 2 hours ago and there is no reply yet. Yesterday i had sent emails, and after 6 hours with no reply I did it myself with many difficulties. But now, i can't do anything and should sit and wait for a response.

Posted by Matt, 03-14-2004, 11:38 AM
Have you emailed the special address Andrew provided earlier?

Posted by Dathorn-Andrew, 03-14-2004, 12:51 PM
Support is a bit slow from time to tim right now, it's not nearly as easy to keep up with things as it is when we have everything up and running. Your e-mails weren't responded to yesterday at all because by the time I had read them you had already sent one saying that you took care of it and to ignore the issue.

Why dathorn site is still not live yet???

Posted by Dathorn-Andrew, 03-15-2004, 11:05 PM
We have a ton of database building/restoration that is still being worked on at this point.

Posted by ice-man2020, 03-16-2004, 02:27 PM
How can we check our billing statement????

Posted by Dathorn-Andrew, 03-16-2004, 02:55 PM
Please contact the e-mail address given to you on dathorn.com for support. WHT is still not a means of support.
