Trouble accessing sites on CitadelHost?

Posted by Chachabear, 06-16-2004, 08:23 AM
Hi, guys... I'm not sure if this is in any way related to ThePlanet's troubles in this thread, but I'm so frustrated I have no clue where else to turn to. I apologize if they are in some way related and this seems like a duplicate thread. Also, my apologies if I start to ramble on... I'm more than a bit frazzled at this point. *twitches* For the past 4 days I haven't been able to access my sites (psychedelicate.net and spammy.nu). I've never experienced downtime like this from CitadelHost before, and anytime there've been glitches, Jonathan Liu has taken care of them in record time. Unfortunately, Jonathan has temporarily left the company due to health issues and I'm finding myself dealing with a whole new tech support team from a different company (AMS Computer Services) who're looking after our accounts in his stead. I contacted tech support numerous times about my inability to access my sites and they looked into any possible server-side problems, finding nothing out of the ordinary. They told me that if I continued to receive DNS errors after a day or so, to contact my ISP. At first, I thought it was my ISP... but I've since found that other folks (using a variety of different ISPs) are having trouble accessing these sites, as well. On a sidenote, I've been with my ISP (RCN dial-up) for 5+ years now and I've never experienced persistant connection problems like this before. It just doesn't happen. Overall, they've very reliable, and I'd be more likely to believe the problems I'm experiencing are not ISP-related. I wanted to post here and hopefully get a broader range of input as to whether anyone else is having trouble accessing sites on CitadelHost, and hopefully... I can refer them to this thread so they won't just take my word for it when I tell them that something is seriously wrong. Thank you for reading.

I've been having problems accessing pretty much all my accounts on CitadelHost, and btw ... they gave me the same ******** ISP answer. I know for a fact other people are having problems too, which really makes me wonder. I sent them a few tickets, and they replied saying nothing was wrong and to send a traceroute next time. So I did, they told me "Oh it looks like your IPS isn't even trying to connect to the server." I'm sorry, but the traceroute didn't suggest anything of the sort. This problem only started happening shortly after Jonathan left. Coincidence? I don't think so. I definately miss that guy right about now. The main things i've noticed is that the sites would go up and down all day. Sometimes for a few minutes, sometimes for a few hours. Sometimes the domain works and the subdomains don't, other times subdomains work and the main domain doesn't. But I can tell you this for sure, at any given time at LEAST one, and most of the time three or more of the sites DON'T work. AND 70% of the time I can't check my email. Also, over the past 20 hours I havn't been able to access a single one of my accounts on CitadelHost, with the acception of jonwofford.com. However, the jonwofford.com email has been down and remains down it seems. I've submitted yet another ticket, here's hoping things will become resolved soon.

Hi all, sorry to hear about your troubles. spammy.nu loads fine here. psychedelicate.net loads a blank white page. Just out of Interest, when we changed our servers, a couple of customers were unable to access their websites. This was caused to their ISP (same ISP) caching the websites with the old IP address. Has CitadelHost changed servers? If so you could try a dnsflush. Best of luck.

You know, I don't know why I didn't even think of that before. It makes a lot of sense the more I mull it over ... it also makes sense that it WOULD be an ISP issue, consdering the fact that nothing on their end is showing errors, only a sparse few are experiencing the problem, and they can't duplicate it themselves. I'm going to suggest that to them right now. Thank you.

Howdy all! I still receive notices of any service/server downtimes and have not seen anything out of the norm. I definitely did not however see any excessive downtime. I personally am able to view both of the listed websites. A good way to double check to see if a problem is ISP related is to point your browser to www.alertra.com and use their "Spot Check" feature located in the upper right hand corner. This will provide you a list of locations around the world your site is (in)accessible from. I've done this for the two listed websites and Alertra is able to access them from 6/6 of its various geographical locations. Regards,

Thanks for the link Jon, most of my sites are currently down at the moment, and I've just checked via that website and they seem to not be working there as well. In case you're wondering, the websites are: radio-belize.net firefly.nu artistcafe.org (partially working at the moment). I'm forwarding this information to Tech Support at this very moment.

Both of my domains seem to have finally resolved after the nameserver change that AMS suggested to me. However, I still cannot access my CPanels, FTP, or any subdirectories within my domains. Should I wait this out? (I have no problem doing so if I know that it will eventually sort itself out.) Or is there anything I can do to speed up the process of all this getting resolved? P.S. Cocoa, did you get my email forward about the nameservers? I just sent you another one, too... ^_^;; Last edited by Chachabear; 06-18-2004 at 09:08 AM.

I can access my sites on the mars server, but my SSL keeps bouncing on and off. As thats how I access Modernbill its a pain. I just keep getting told by AMS to type https://blah...... I KNOW that already guys..... It would have to coincide with me starting to advertise locally too, I think I'm gonna get a real good response when people cant access the bloody order page. JonL, we miss you! Please come back! (Nah, get better first, and thanks for the times you were real quick to help. Then hurry back! :-) Last edited by OMaHTLD; 06-22-2004 at 06:56 PM.
