HFW VPS down only for me?

Posted by crisdias, 06-07-2004, 01:36 PM
Hi there, I have been using Hostforweb VPS for a couple of months now with no problems. On Thursday things started crashing and I thought it was something I might have done. On Friday I was informed the VPS box did not have enough memory to support all sites running there and that they would buy more memory eventually. So I check WebHostingTalk and can't find anything about it, so I am wondering if all other HFW VPSs are OK and it is something personal about me. My sites have been close to 100% down for the whole weekend. Technically they come up and down, but for most of the time the whole server is down, giving my clients the impression that it's "always down". Any help would be welcome. Thanks, CrisDias

The RAM problem was only on a few servers and all servers were upgraded as fast as possible, with every VPS server being upgraded within 3 days. All newer VPS servers are configured with 8GB to start. As I understood it the problem was unforseen with some new customers installing more memory intensive sites/services than was projected when the servers were configured. Since the upgrade to 8GB Ram on all boxes there have been no further problems as far as I know. (None mentioned on their VPS forums anyway) Also HFW is the most pro-active company I have ever seen for switching clients around (seamlessly, no downtime) to keep loads balanced from server-to server (even on shared account servers) when they notice a particular client using a lot of resources & pushing a particular box. In all my time on HFW VPS I have only got a red or yellow "light" in WHM a few times over a 2 day period. On the third day they switched the box to 8GB and I have never seen memory use go above 40% since (and it's usually much lower). I believe in the "unforseen" part of the problem because on my server the memory load had never been unusually high until it just suddenly had a problem one day. Obviously from a new account they added to the server that consumed a lot more resources than anyone else.
