Low IOPS limit from Stable Host

I just signed up a PRO shared hosting plan (for multiple websites) with Stable Host because they are a very well known shared hosting provider in this forum. When I login to Cpanel, I find that IOPS is limit to 100. This IOPS limit is very low when compare to other shared hosting provider like Hawk Host, which limit IOPS to 1024 (10 times more than Stable Host). I installed a blank wordpress to test the performance using pingdom. The peak IO operations is 54/s out of 100/s. Although it does not reach the limit, this is a rather worrisome sign for me because I'm over 50% of IOPS limit by running pingdom speedtest. Do you think 100 IOPS is a reasonable limit for shared hosting for multiple websites? What is your shared hosting provider's IOPS limit?

Sorry to hear you're not happy with our service. I looked at all of our server graphs and the average IOPS for the entire server is around 400-500. Can you let me know why you would need so many IOPS and we can go back and look into your use-case. Thanks!

Hi stablehost, I'm planning to move over a few wordpress websites from other hosting provider to Stablehost server chi12. My websites main traffic source is pay per clicks advertising, the daily visitors count may be low but many visitors may be hitting my website in a short time frame due to my advertising campaign setting. Based on my observation from other hosting provider, my websites may use over 150 IOPS at peak once in a while. Since my current IOPS limit in StableHost is 100, I worry my website loading speed may be throttled by low IOPS limit even though all other resources limit set by StableHost for shared hosting is very generous, eg: 25 entry process, 1 full CPU core, 2GB Memory, 5120 KB/s IO.

I don't think you'll need to worry about it - we've never had any concerns over IOPS since we started restricting it (many years ago). If you do reach the IOPS limit, please open up a ticket and we'll be happy to look into your account and provide ways to optimize your code.

I am curious, if you never had any concern, why restrict it?

The same reason everyone else does it, including restricting CPU. So, one person can't take down the entire server.

The issues with CPU are common and I get that. The limit you have in place on IOPS does look like it's on the low side. This is why I asked if there is any specific reason for setting such a low value, when you are saying that you didn't have any issue in terms of IOPS.

100 IOPS is plenty for a shared web hosting plan. I'm saying this is the first time anyone has ever mentioned that being an issue in many years. There's no reason why we'd need to increase it as it's a non-issue and prevents the server from being overloaded. 1024 is the default value, so if you see a limit of 1024, it just means that provider hasn't bothered to configure IOPS in CloudLinux, that's all.

Or, they might have set some limits just because they can? Either way, it doesn't make sense to me. Why would anyone limit something to a low value if they didn't have any issue? You might have taken some precautions. So, I'll leave it at that.
