Is linux web host MIA?

Posted by Stephen_B, 09-20-2004, 08:51 AM
My accounts for linuxwebhost.com are unreachable, as is linuxwebhost.com itself. Anyone know what's going on? Stephen

I understand that linuxwebhost was up and down over the weekend. My accounts are also MIA this morning. I know they are based in an area hard hit by Ivan (flooding and tornadoes). Anyone know of network problems in the area that could cause that?

All 3 of my LInuxwebhost accounts are down, as is a 4th I added Friday (9/17). The IP Addresses don't work, so it's not just a nameserver issue... From my billing I see their 'mailbox' is in Philadelphia, PA, which I didn't think was getting hit by Ivan. Don't know where their servers are actually located. Any news would be wonderful. Thanks Steve

Their billing moved to Philly last year sometime, but a tech rep I spoke with several months back told me they were still in Baltimore. As for Philly, the flooding of the Delaware river (which runs between NJ and PA) was all over the news this AM. You are right though, the network is down completely. No IP or DNS activity whatsoever. Hope they "come back" soon! The clients I have on these accounts are generally great, and understand if something comes up. Linuxwebhost has been pretty darn reliable the last few years, so hopefully this is not a major problem.

I've had them for 4+ years, never had a problem. We host an on-line auction once a year, for about a week. Last year I made the mistake of using edatarack. The site crashed 4 times in one week... This year I moved it to linuxwebhost, and it went perfectly. So another company that was going to do the same kind of auction asked me to help, and I moved their software/database to Linuxwebhost on Friday. Fortunately they haven't changed the nameserver info yet, so they are still up and running, although on ******. ****** is very slow. Linuxwebhost has been very snappy, and I've been very satisfied with their support and reliability. So I really hope they are back up and running soon... real soon... Thanks for the info. Steve '

Apparently LinuxWebHost is part of the Alabanza debacle that seems to be unfolding on this board. Their DNS info shows that they are hosted on Alabanza, which apparently is shut down by an underground fire. Everyone seems to be concentrating on backup power. Any idea if communication cables were damaged in the fire?

The latest I heard from alahosts.com in the 'express yourself' forum is saying that power is back up (generator in place?) but communications lines were also down; they might be back late this afternoon. Stephen Update: posts in the forums say they're back in the buildings and starting to reboot. I don't know anything about lines in/out. Last edited by Stephen_B; 09-20-2004 at 04:27 PM.

Me too. They all seem to be back up. Thanks for helping "share the burden" today. It is always a little comforting to know you're not alone! Bob
