Host Affection
Posted by Kylara, 09-30-2004, 07:53 PM |
I'm sorry if this isn't the right place to post about this, but I'm running low on ideas. For almost the entire week, my website, along with my friend's website, have been down. They're hosted by Host Affection (hostaffect.com), which has also been down since then, leaving me with no way of contacting the owners to find out what's going on. Has anyone heard anything about this, or could point me to a different thread with information on it?

Doesn't sound to promising for you. Try the phone number posted above.
Even if they come back up i would move to something more reliable a week of downtime is not acceptable.

I'm not sure if anyone else here is using Host Affection, but on the off-chance someone is or is planning to, a friend who is also hosted with them finally got ahold of them today. This is their conversation;
- - - - - - - - - -
Customer:
excuse me
Affect Networks says:
??
Customer:
i was wondering if you could give me an estimated time of how much longer my site will be down
Affect Networks says:
Service will be restored tomorrow
Affect Networks says:
Nothing is lost
Customer:
why was it down ?
Affect Networks says:
Doesn't matter
Affect Networks says:
We had some issues on them we had to resolve
Customer:
mod ?
Affect Networks says:
Things wil lbe backup
Customer:
right i'll believe it when i see it
Customer:
thanks for youtime
Affect Networks says:
That's not the way to talk to us.
Customer:
your***
Affect Networks says:
Nor will IT ake it
Affect Networks says:
so, don't use that type of wording with us or you won't see your account again
Customer:
like it would matter

I think you're right about finding a new host, now I just need to find one that's not too expensive. They've been providing myself, and my friend, with horrible support ever since we signed up, and have been rude to boot. If the customer above seems a bit rude, you might want to take note that the "support" has been nothing but rude to us ever since we first started asking for help, and both of us have no respect for them anymore. *shrugs* Just incase anyone was planning on getting hosted by them, or are currently hosted byt them.

They sound like kids.
The fact that they said it doesn't matter why they were down indicates a total lack of any real hosting or business knowledge.
Good Luck

Actually that wouldn't be the right way to talk to a customer (if I'm not mistaken)...

Wow I didn't think such bad PR existed until I started visiting this forum. Of course, that's if what I see here about possible "competitors" is true.
There are dozens after dozens of great hosts that can catter to your needs. The one thing I know is that every customer needs a specific type of host. A great host for one will be terrible for another. Even though both might be top notch!

Unfortunately, the good, the bad, and the ugly often receives the most attention here at WHT
And yes, they do sound like children...

I'm surprised no one has mentioned it yet - HostAffect is run by Timmy - aka Timmah aka - RUNRUNRUN as fast as you can.
Do a search on WHT for Timmy or Timmah - or paradise designs or any of his other projects and you'll find out a LOT. One of WHTs most notorious scammers. He's scammed many many many people out of a heck of a lot of money.

I also happen to be hosted with Host Affection. The service was perfectly fine the first two months (certainly better than at Pinchpenny.org, that last place I was hosted), but now all things have gone to hell. I signed up with Host Affection upon a friend's recommendation, but now I'm regretting it. I called the number provided on the whois.sc website, but it turned out to be a private residence number (I believe). Highly suspicious. "Hello, you have reached the Newmans..." Is there any legal action I would be able to take against this scammer?
Also, does anybody have recommendations for RELIABLE web hosts that could host my domain under a 200 MB of space, 5 GB of transfer plan for under $35 a year?

$35.00 a year? For under 5 Gigs of transfer a year I can help you big time! For 5 Gigs of transfer a month that is not possible for any host unless they have overhead on other accounts in which case they are over charging anyway. Joke offers = joke results.. Same goes for ridiculous requests
Best I can see is $5.00 a month

I use to be in contact with the guy that ran Host Affection.
I use to see him on AIM all the time - AffctHst.
I don't know much about him, other than he was a minor at the time I was talking to him (16/17 or something like that). That was last year or so.

I would just like to note that problems such as this will never happen again with Host Affection. Host Affection has been purchased by Steadfast Networks. I know the company had a bad reputation, etc., but the offer was too good to pass up and we had plenty of server space available. I would just like to tell everyone that Host Affection can be trusted now as I am here to run that company correctly and responsibly.
