Not sure how long it has been but I can't access our servers at Host dime. Anyone know the status?

Posted by kastro662, 12-31-2004, 12:20 PM
Yay! It's back up now! Hopefully to stay. Must be a router or DOS problem.

Yeah, HostDime is down here too. Can't access my server or their home page, so appears to be a NOC problem. Can't even ping any IPs. First time in a long while. Wonder what has happened? Kate

I am on a server with them and they seem to be down. Does anybody know what the problem is? It looks to me like network is down completely because my server isnt up nor is there site. Anyone else know what has happened? Zach

just now, my website, and the surpasshosting website have disapeared....anyone know why?

Posted by Dazed, 01-01-2005, 09:33 PM
I have been with surpass for about 5 months now. I would say there is about a 85% uptime with them. But then I pay only $10 a month for 75gb bw, can't beat the price. As I was reminded in a post I made eariler you get what you pay for.

Posted by Jason.NXH, 01-01-2005, 09:33 PM
I don't know why this could be, but a possibility could be that their server was shutdown or unplugged, or the network may be down

Posted by dantol, 01-01-2005, 09:33 PM
Maybe their server is down?

Posted by Jason.NXH, 01-01-2005, 09:37 PM
Dazed, Do not always pay the cheapest you can find. It is best to do research on the web host, and find out answers such as: - Do they have good support? - Do they provide good services? And so fourth. Cheap web hosting can not always be good, but leads to alot of trouble. Just a small warning

Posted by dantol, 01-01-2005, 09:37 PM
No offence dude, but 85% uptime is terrible. I am sure - in fact I am certain - that for $10 a month you could find a better host with (let's say) 98% uptime (although, they tend to advertise "99.9%" uptime).

Posted by WebAuth, 01-01-2005, 09:40 PM
Kastro, Didn't you just pick them as your host???

Posted by Nick007, 01-01-2005, 10:07 PM
Yeh 85% is extremely bad, I've have been with hosts like that before, especially if your running a forum or company site, cant afford that kind of uptime.

I can confirm that all I get is the normal cPanel welcome template page. Surpassdomains.com is down for me though.

google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&client=firefox-a&rls=org.mozilla%3Aen-US%3Aofficial&q=c1b3r_fus1on+&btnG=Search There must be a *nix security hole for this guy or group to be hacking these many sites with *nix on them. Odd.

I wish I had a recording or the call, he was like, Well it cant be down we have three main servers setup with rsync and failover. I said, well it shows "Cpanel No Site at this IP" His response, "Oh, we will look into it"

Hostdime's home page is down and support tickets are not answered after 10 hours. Does anyone host with them and get problem on client's site? Any problem with them?

Posted by NeoGen, 01-02-2005, 12:35 PM
There seems o be problem with their http: http://www.checkdns.net/quickcheck.a...com&detailed=1 But their mail server seems to work fine.

To answer a question: No, I didn't just choose them. I have been with servercove (now hostdime) for over a year. Got new servers with 15minuteservers/nac.net recently.

Surpass hosting, their sister company seems to have the same problem. Their forum is also down. On the plus side everything else seems to be working for me.

I have got an answer why the "Cpanel" default page is visible, from support. (at 02 Jan 2005 06:57 AM [Orlando local time]) This happened after the D-dos attack that caused the downtime.

Looks like several different problems - some domain names are not resolving, the server status system MySQl is down, other servers seemed to have no virtual servers defined.... Surminity.com is offline as well.... Some communication from them is warranted... This is the worst outage i've seen at Surpass....

Is there a massive hacking activity going on nowadays? It seems that hosters are hacked every now and then....

Posted by AdmiralSpock, 01-02-2005, 08:02 PM
There is always a massive hacking activity going on by some crazy freaks in Asia. Surpass wasn't out as far as I know, my montioring service did not let me know that Apache was down on my server. I never had a problem. THIS IS WHAT IS GOING ON AS OF 1/1 8:50P CENTRAL TIME: Surpass is preparing an end-of 2004 report and working on some major improvement thing. I don't know what they are doing but they said the Desk would be up. At least that's what the vB closed message said. I don't know if they were attacked, or what. But I never experienced any downtime (on P14). The mail server must be having a problem as it times out when I check it in Thunderbird, but HTTP is up. Whatever is going on, as mentioned, servers were going online/off in some order, so they may be doing a software/hardware upgrade. Perhaps HD upgrades or RAM to each server to make it easier for cPanel to backup sites when it does so. I honestly don't know. I anticipate someone from DimeNOC/HostDime/Surpass giving official word.

They are restoring their systems, apparently at least some were hacked: http://www.surmunity.com/archive/index.php has a message: "H4ck3rsBR g0t Ownz ? .... c1b3r_fus1on" as of 9:45pm EST
