What's happening at PlanetGac?

Posted by dyndale, 01-28-2005, 05:19 PM
My sites went down 3 days ago and are still not up. And as always, when my site goes down so does the entire set of PlanetGac sites - so there's no way of getting in touch with them by email or web. Something strange going on over at their gaming forum too, at planetgac.com All the forums are suddenly completely empty.

GAC Technologies Incorporated appears to be down. Anyone know where they went? Their site is also down. Thanks!

I did a little looking around and found some posts on this company ripping people off selling x-boxes. The posts are from 2001 but the company name is the same and it's the same guy running it. Makes me wonder if GAC is down for the count.

No problem

Just as well... They sucked big-time anyway. LOTS of downtime, poor support, sudden limitations in service and not very competitive prices. On January 28th they simply disappeared, without warning, and all accounts were lost. I've searched and searched all over the 'net and from posts I've read on other forums/boards it seems their phones have ben disconnected too. So they're gone. Pretty lousy way to go though. Luckily I have backups. But I also registered my domains through them (they were resellers for PlanetDomain), and getting my domain moved over to another registrar has been a real headache. Anyway, one less bad host to worry about...

terrible company

Wow. Within a few short hours of me posting this thread the company mysteriously appears again, and so does my web sites! I just hope they receive my account cancellation request before they charge anything more to my credit card. I can't see how this company manages to stay in business...

I'm still cancelling my account - but I hereby officially and publically apologize for my opening statement in this thread, after receiving anemail update on the situation from PlanetGac. I still think they should have handled this situation very differently, but I understand that this latest event was not something they could do anything about. Here is the email I received from them just now: Finally able to contact customers after one week of all East Coast servers being down. The problem was our East Coast NOC blew out the system and basically fried our servers, we are only able now to access backups and activate them. We have cancelled our contract with the NOC and are filing litigation on behalf of our own business losses and those of our customers. We are moving all operations to our central NOC which has a 100% uptime guaranteed performance. Those who wish to have their accounts moved then please contact us. Those who wish for refunds or have already put in claims, they will be honored, but you will receive no compensation from the pending suits. We will be asking for up to $250 per site (non-business) and business sites should send us a full accounting of there estimated losses to be included in the class action suit. You have 24 hours to make BACKUPS of all your files after this time we are kissing the East Coast NOC goodbye. I can apologize to death for the problems over the past week and a half but we were hit as bad as anyone here and we cannot take responsibility for the actions of the NOC. Our central servers have a 8 month straight 0 downtime/100% uptime record and we should've moved everyone there before such an incident occurred but that's hindsight now. We have been reputably damaged by the East Coast NOCs performance over the past year and the events of the past week have left us numb. Please use the email address below for all correspondence as the planetgac.net address will not be available until we get settled on the new server. Those who have cancelled their services should also contact us so we can make sure any billing is stopped and accounts terminated on servers. All East Coast servers will be shut down at 3PM EST time on Friday so making backups whether you are staying or going is imperative. we will transfer all the latest backups to our own server just in case members do not get this email in time. Use the following email for all communications: [edited out] Do not respond to this email with complaints as they will go unanswered, we are more focused on fixing and salvaging what we can at the moment. I know there are many angry people out there and for good reason but in this rare case we were left helpless as well. Members who have tried to call our 800 number never did read our updates months ago stating that this number is no longer valid. The Global number is 631-587-4948 and should be used for priority issues only such as account access. PlanetGAC Web Services

I think they meant DC and not NOC. Looks like they are using TP for Central though I am not sure they can call it their own. Also highly doubtful of the claims of 100% uptime unless they never patch their servers etc.
