PlanetsHosting Down?

Posted by markerpower, 02-07-2005, 03:10 PM
PlanetsHosting and its servers(including mines) have been down for about a week and I'm not sure why. Last month there were lots of downtimes, but none for this long. Since downtimes were happening alot, I took that as my sign to move to a new dedicated server with a new company. Sadly I had 60 gigs of data and it was going to take a couple of days to download that all. I asked if it was possible for them to move my data to a new server, but they said no. PlanetsHosting used to be so helpful and alot more reliable. Support takes days to get or not at all now. They don't send notices about downtimes anymore. They are just not that good anymore. I wish I could get my money back for the month of January or something. But that might not be possible. Anyways does anyone know what's going on with them?

Maybe a good thing to recommend is that people should do a WHOIS search on the domains and get the company contact information (if its not on the site) before they sign up for a host. With a phone number like (111) 123-4567 in their WHOIS info, I sure wouldnt have chosen them as my preferred hosting provider.

Well I've been with them for 1+ years and at first they were a good company for hosting. I'm not sure what happened now. Please if anyone knows what happened with them let me know, so I know if there is a chance for me to finish backing up my recent files. Last edited by markerpower; 02-09-2005 at 02:33 AM.

What I was saying is that I would suggest people in the future check the phone numbers on the WHOIS if its not on the site, and make sure its the company's phone number or at least not 111-123-4567 or 555-555-5555 or something, thats all. =)

Correct, I agree. To clarify what I was saying is that to utilize a bogus name/address/phone number/etc in your domain name contact information, it is against ICANN regulations.. So not only does having a bogus phone # make the hosting company look shady, they can get in trouble with ICANN as well. Richard

Good call. However, I wasnt aware that bogus info was illegal, nice! Too bad they dont have a way to check for that stuff, now that would be nice. HINT, HINT to Enom, GoDaddy, and all other large accredited registrars.

To bad I didn't know about WHOIS when I signed up with PlanetsHosting in 2003. Many people were recommending me to them, so that's why I went with them and they were good then. Now I got a server with ServerMatrix and hopefully I will have a better experience with them.
