NetHosted.co.uk - 32hrs and ongoing...

Hi all,
As I am not a web host I wondered if someone could give me some independant opinions of this outage at nethosted.co.uk which is still a serious problem 32 hours after detection.
The thread on their website is here:
nethosted.co.uk/topic560
The host claims: "It is extremely unfortunate turn of events that could not have been either predicted or prevented."
Backups on the same drive: "Q: Andrew, correct me if I am wrong but are you saying you have the backups stored on the same disks that are part of the RAID 1?
A: Yes we had them stored on a backup partition on the drives that were in RAID(1)."
Any comments would be appreciated,
Thanks,
Concerned customer of Net Hosted.

Backing up to the same mirrored aray is a quick way to kill off your hard drives. Either run them as mirrors (raid1) in which case individual drive failure wont matter, or backup to a separate disk - better yet both so when a client calls up and says " err , i err deleted my website this morning " you can always get it back for them
