[Surmounted.NET] Move from Chicago to Dallas. Transition to be completed by Sept. 1st

From time to time we need to make changes in how we operate in order to provide a better service to our clients and to make more sense from a business standpoint. The time came upon us where we needed to re-evaluate our operation and we came to a decision that enables us to provide a better service to existing clients while allowing us the level of control and flexibility we need to appeal to new clients as well.

The major difference in our plan is the decision to relocate existing services to Colo4 in Dallas, TX. As you likely know, we're currently located at SingleHop in Chicago, IL. While a great facility with an excellent network, we simply feel too, err.. how should I word this? "Restricted" in our control over our service there. Our decision to move will grant us additional control over the quality of our service as well as enable us to successfully reach out to new markets.

What does this mean for you, the Surmounted.NET Customer?

For starters, we'll now be utilizing a BGP & Internap FCP Optimized network with quality bandwidth carriers such as Level3, TimeWarner Telecom, and AboveNET. This premium network was designed for low latency, high throughput, redundancy, and supperior reliability with built in 'Smart Routing', making sure your data is always transferred via the fastest path. The central USA location of Dallas, TX makes this the ideal hub to effectively reach an American internet audience while still having good connectivity to the UK and Western Europe.

Powerful new nodes! New Intel Sandy-Bridge CPUs, gobs of RAM and hardware RAID storage for great performance and increased capacity versus our current nodes.

Our Virtual Server clients will enjoy the move as well. Our new node will allow all of our VPS clients a much better web-based user interface to manage their server(s) while we keep performance at a maximum. We'll continue to use Xen based Virtualization technology to isolate separate Virtual Servers and to allocate dedicated resources to each VPS to ensure there is no overselling or over-subscription of physical resources. Tons of new Linux distribution choices for our Virtual Sever clients too! Arch Linux, CentOS, Fedora, Gentoo, Mandriva, NetBSD, OpenSuse, Scientific Linux, Slackware, and Ubuntu. All distros have 32/64bit OS images, as well as OS images in many previous and current versions!

Are you a Surmounted.NET Reseller? This move has enabled us to offer our resellers the ability to resell our virtual private servers in a white-label fashion! Increase your monthly sales and appeal to new customers by offering quality Virtual Private Servers to your website visitors. More details of this will be released at a later date. We're also aware of some ongoing and sporadic stability issues on our reseller server 'phase', it's on our belief that this change will allow us to correct this issue during the VM rebuild process.

We expect to have ALL clients migrated by September 1st with NO downtime expected. Your online presence is as important to us as it is you, and we understand downtime must be avoided at all costs. We will be taking appropriate steps to reduce the likelihood that any single client faces downtime. We will be in contact with each of you individually who will be required to simply make a change to your domain's nameserver IP to tell your domain name to point to the new physical location of these servers. This is the only thing we require from our clients throughout this process. For those of you who have registered your domain name with Surmounted.NET, we will be able to perform this for you. Our goal is to make this transition as seamless and simple as possible.

As always, our aim is to provide our customers the best possible service. This move allows us to maintain a quality service while making more business sense to better accommodate our growth. If you have any questions or concerns about this feel free to email me directly(curtis-AT-surmounted.net), send me a PM, or follow the link to our message forum discussion as highlighted in the client wide email we sent last night.

Best Regards,
