www.dirtcheapwebservers.com down??

Posted by SHAdmin, 05-25-2005, 12:44 PM
I have a dedicated server setup with them. But have been looking for the past 10 minutes, and the ips that i have been allotted have been down. Even their site seems to be down. I tried pinging both of them, but keeping on getting timed out message. Is it only from my end or is it truely dead? Any other way to contact them?

Posted by Whocares, 05-25-2005, 01:00 PM
Down from Turkey, you may try to whois their domain name , maybe you can find a phone number.

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-25-2005, 02:05 PM
Down from Switzerland too. I didn't bother to call them, I think they know about and they are doing their best. Robb is very responsive and I think something went wrong with their DC.

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-25-2005, 04:47 PM
Still down... does anyone has more?

Posted by SHAdmin, 05-25-2005, 10:36 PM
Still down............with me too. I had tried to contact him by mail as soon as i discovered the downtime, but still no response. Wish he looks into it soon.

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-25-2005, 10:38 PM
yes, I have the same problem. I have with them few boxes for some discounted customer but they have about 12 hours downtime now. No reply from support yet.

Posted by SHAdmin, 05-26-2005, 12:26 AM
I went through the whois info of dirtcheapwebservers.com and found that they are with INNERQUEST Networks LLC. Then when you go to their website at http://www.innerquestusa.com it shows that all of their network is down. The reason that they have put up says Hopefully it gets solved out quickly.

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-26-2005, 09:11 AM
Yes, I hope too... but they could elaborate a bit. We have 20 hours downtime with the servers we have with them but no single email.

Posted by Whocares, 05-26-2005, 01:49 PM
I hope it would be solved soon, This again gave me a lesson, never trust a small company for business.... Not acceptable.

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-26-2005, 01:57 PM
24 hours down right now and no email.

Posted by stevenmichael, 05-26-2005, 01:59 PM
still down for me,

Posted by efarmer, 05-26-2005, 02:07 PM
Is this responsive??

Posted by Whocares, 05-26-2005, 02:09 PM
Of course not.

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-26-2005, 02:23 PM
I wonder if they are still in business. We have 3 servers with them but only one that host a customer. We provided a high end server to this customer. Whocares, don't hesistate to contact me if I can help you.

Posted by dot-netted, 05-26-2005, 04:31 PM
Hi all, My host [ dirtcheapwebservers ] has been down for over 44 hours now. ( every site I know that is hosted on them is down including their own site ) I'm not entirely sure where the datacenter is located but if anyone happens to know could you please post it. It would be nice to know whether the datacenter is having problems or whether my "host" has gone out of business. Maybe I'm overreacting but 44 hours seems like quite a long time for all their sites to be down.

Posted by blockcipher, 05-26-2005, 04:33 PM
Seems others are as well. http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...hreadid=408547 Good luck.

Posted by cartika-andrew, 05-26-2005, 04:34 PM
No, youre not over-reacting - 44 hours is a long time This kinda says it all though

Posted by dot-netted, 05-26-2005, 04:37 PM
Thanks Block www (dot) innerquestusa (dot) com explains it.

Posted by keliix06, 05-26-2005, 04:38 PM
Do a spotcheck from alertra is showing them as up. I noticed their IP is in the 72.x.x.x range, you may want to contact your ISP as there have been a lot of trouble with this IP range lately.

Posted by dot-netted, 05-26-2005, 04:44 PM
Their site is now up as a generated ad site (possibly from registrar) http://www.dirtcheapwebservers.com/ @ 63.251.83.53 Hope they didn't go out of business...

Posted by dot-netted, 05-26-2005, 04:52 PM
Down for me too -- been a while now... Also their site is back up as generated ad site (registrar?) http://www.dirtcheapwebservers.com/

Posted by Duport, 05-26-2005, 04:54 PM
It looks like they have gone, 'Why am I seeing this web site' is displayed

Posted by Whocares, 05-26-2005, 05:01 PM
I just filed a chargeback from the bank...

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-26-2005, 05:10 PM
We rented a VPS for our customer. I have no choice than to consider them out of business. 30 hours downtime without any kind of email or announcement, is too much.

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-26-2005, 05:12 PM
May be we need to start a thread in a most read part of this forum. The question is no longer about provider outage, my question is: www.dirtcheapwebservers.com dies?

Posted by Whocares, 05-26-2005, 05:14 PM
Yes, just file a chargeback, I really do not understand people that they assume that they can easily rip people, but one thing should be known that every time credit card companies always are with card holders. I promise myself not going with small hosting company. ohzzzz

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-26-2005, 05:17 PM
The outage is not the problem. But why they don't communicate? An preformated email or a small message on this forum are enought. I know they read this forum.

Posted by Whocares, 05-26-2005, 05:19 PM
Yes, but they did not send any notification, so i am not able to tell my customer what is going on. But it is very bad, we are alone...

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-26-2005, 05:19 PM
He is a page from their DC: innerquestusa.com We are currently experiencing network outages due do a fiber cut in the "Tampa Bay Area". We apologize for this situation that is 100% out of our hands. ETA currently unavailable "Co-location Customers Only" please contact us via email for an update. support@innerquestusa.com

Posted by JohnGladen, 05-26-2005, 06:21 PM
Any updates?

Posted by dot-netted, 05-26-2005, 06:25 PM
Not yet. http://www.innerquestusa.com/ still reports an ongoing outage.

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-26-2005, 06:38 PM
You are not over reacting. I think they are out of business. Their website is down and we have no news from them. I wrote several emails those last hours, but they choose to not reply. This is a very bad attitude, they are killing their company. I have three servers with them, hopefully all my other boxes are with NAC and other great DCs, this not a big deal for me 3 serveurs out, but what I can't understand is the silence. They simply ignored the fact that they have many customers that trust them and small hosting companies that could die from such accident.

Posted by dot-netted, 05-26-2005, 06:53 PM
I don't think they are "ignoring" us. It seems as if they have no way of contacting us. Don't bother emailing them as it their mail servers should be down (as is their site)

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-26-2005, 07:01 PM
They can open an account with GMAIL for exemple and write a polite email to all their customers to explain de situation. But they choosed to ignore us. They can aslo post on this forum. They know this forum when it comes to display ads!

Posted by rhenderson, 05-26-2005, 11:05 PM
When I go to http://www.dirtcheapwebservers.com/ I get Welcome to Weedbass.com lol.

Posted by dot-netted, 05-26-2005, 11:38 PM
Weedbass here too... Ok lol this is getting a little weird now.

Posted by JohnGladen, 05-26-2005, 11:41 PM
Hello, LMAO! Hacker maybe? This is too weird! Best Regards,

Posted by dot-netted, 05-26-2005, 11:52 PM
Well, the fact that it's pointing to a residential IP suggests that. dirtcheapwebservers.com == 24.167.212.231 24.167.212.231 == Road Runner [ http://www.dshield.org/ipinfo.php?ip=24.167.212.231 ]

Posted by dot-netted, 05-26-2005, 11:55 PM
But weedbass.com is owned/registered by innerquestusa.com. Maybe the datacenter is back up but the dns server's are screwy. [ https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/whois...n=weedbass.com ]

Posted by SHAdmin, 05-27-2005, 01:23 AM
I agree with that. Infact the mail that i had sent them as soon as their network outage occured today returned saying that the email couldnt be delivered. So i guess even their email servers are down. Infact if you see the profile of "dirtcheap" he last visited these forums on the 20th of May 2005. Maybe he too has gone on a holiday to make things worse Well either ways, still counting to be now 34 hours of outage Last edited by SHAdmin; 05-27-2005 at 01:28 AM.

It's been over 64 hours now. They better hope they're out of business as they'll owe everybody a refund according to the TOU. [ http://64.233.187.104/search?q=cache...s.com/tou.html ]

Posted by Neosurge, 05-27-2005, 12:38 PM
If a fiber was truely cut, there should be some other providers down too or at least some indication of it elsewhere.

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-27-2005, 03:35 PM
I received an email from Innerquest. Here is an intersting part of it: Because of the fiber cut, dirtcheap has also lost there personal (company email) Robb should have email back up tomorrow and he said he will contact you direct. I called him and thats what he told me. Bad situation down here.

Posted by 3rdcoast, 05-27-2005, 08:59 PM
the website is up now

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-27-2005, 09:03 PM
Yeah, but they are stopping the business... Dirtcheapwebservers.com::: customers We experienced a major dark fiber cut on Wednesday about 12:00pm eastern time, which still has not been repaired, by the telco company. We apologize for this situation and leaves us no choice but to refund all of our dedicated server customer that have time left on there leases.. Please e-mail Robb @ sales and he will make certian that every customer that has a refund coming gets one in a timely manner. But please be patient as we are still having e-mail issues.

Posted by efarmer, 05-27-2005, 09:41 PM
Robb is amazing. He made good his promise to refund as per his claim on his web-site. He refunded within a very short period.

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-27-2005, 09:53 PM
We are waiting for refund too. Yes, it is a honest pratice. However, if he communicated more during the crises, he could avoided the charge backs and limited the loss.

Posted by rhenderson, 05-27-2005, 10:34 PM
I guess it is time to shop for a server... We emailed too and are awaiting the response.

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-27-2005, 11:00 PM
Try EuroVPS.com they have decent and reliable VPS.

Posted by SHAdmin, 05-28-2005, 12:43 AM
Yah, i have mailed too and waiting for a response. Either ways now that it is clear that i have to look out for another cheap but reliable dedicated hosting provider, could anybody suggest me one

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-28-2005, 10:54 AM
Cheap, how cheap you are looking for?

Posted by SHAdmin, 05-28-2005, 11:00 AM
Something under $40/month and no setup fees and with atleast 40GB diskspace and 200GB bandwidth http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showth...hreadid=409394

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-28-2005, 11:20 AM
Look: http://www.eurovps.com/vps/ They have good solutions from $19. These VPS are built on strongest servers ever. They use SCSI 320 drives and quad Xeon processors. We have few VPS with them and all our customers are happy. It is better to have a VPS with a serious company rather than a PIII that works 3 days a week. Their servers cost minimum $15'000 each, so they take care of them.

Posted by SHAdmin, 05-28-2005, 11:29 AM
Thanks for your advice "edelweisshosting" but as i said, i am looking for a dedicated server in that range, not a VPS. And i dont mind the speed of the server as i will be using it for offering free hosting service and testing some of my projects

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-28-2005, 11:37 AM
No problem :-) Try internetwholesale.com they have servers from $49 and up. There is serverpronto.com from $29 a box, I would avoid them because they charge $29 for every reboot!

Posted by Whocares, 05-29-2005, 04:40 AM
Maybe it is wholesaleinternet.com ?

Posted by rhenderson, 05-29-2005, 05:46 AM
Yeah that is it... I got an email saying I would get a refund but have not seen it yet.

Posted by Whocares, 05-29-2005, 05:47 AM
Yes, same here .

Posted by dot-netted, 05-29-2005, 06:12 AM
At least you got an email...

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-29-2005, 09:49 AM
Sorry :-) It is actually wholesaleinternet.com Thanks for correcting Whocares, you really care!

Posted by Steven.C, 05-29-2005, 11:13 AM
Seems like in the end they handled this properly by refunding their customers. Must be really bad for them when they have to close up shop by no fault of their own... As for another "cheap" provider...maybe this would serve as a good example to pay a bit more for a more reliable network.

Posted by rhenderson, 05-29-2005, 02:28 PM
I am not counting my chickens before they hatch, have not gotten the refund yet. When I do if it is this weekend as promised I will agree with you. I am giving it till Tuesday, since Monday is a holiday for a proper refund.

Posted by Steven.C, 05-29-2005, 02:35 PM
You're account could of possibly been overlooked. Given the circumstances, you may want to give the benefit of doubt and send them a little email on Tuesday.

Posted by rhenderson, 05-29-2005, 02:43 PM
I have sent and received an email saying it would be taken care so I am taking that at face value.

Posted by FIAHOST, 05-30-2005, 08:23 AM
Robb is honest and he has a real will to refund all his customers. I am sure that you will receive all your money. I was partially refunded; anyway I would never filled a charge back because they was nice with us when they was in business. We can't do business with people today and treat them bad if someday things go wrong for them.

Posted by SHAdmin, 05-30-2005, 10:11 AM
Agree with you regarding Robb and his honesty and kind support. Although i still didnt recieve any refund from him, still i can trust him that i will recive it sooner or later.

Posted by rhenderson, 05-31-2005, 05:53 PM
Anyone else got thier refund?? Just wondering... Mine was promised over the weekend and I have not heard anything. Email them back 6 hours ago and still not heard anything.

Posted by Whocares, 06-01-2005, 07:21 AM
Yes, same here. I have already filed a chargeback. Maybe it is time to do it.

Posted by rhenderson, 06-01-2005, 11:25 AM
I guess I will too. Robb told me... I gave them the weekend. It did not arrive. So I emailed them. No response in 24 hours. So I guess I will file a chargeback.

Posted by vidahost, 06-01-2005, 12:48 PM
Why on Earth would a fiber cut mean closing up shop? The whole thing is very fishy :/

Posted by dot-netted, 06-01-2005, 03:42 PM
I got a refund via through paypal about 2 days after I emailed them. Robb had to use his personal account as ebay shut down the main one due to complaints.

Posted by rhenderson, 06-01-2005, 07:14 PM
I used a CC and since they did not follow through on the weekend promise and have not answered my email in 36 hours I did a charge back. Hated to do it, but hate empty promises more.

Posted by SHAdmin, 06-05-2005, 03:17 AM
I guess you just jumped to conclusions. You should have waited a while longer as is announced on their site that due to loss of customer data, this process of refunding might take a little longer than expected. I just recieved my refund. And here is what Robb wrote : In the same way i guess even your account might have been just overlooked. Just send him a mail and i bet he will look into it as he has all intentions to be honest and refund everybodys money.

Posted by rhenderson, 06-06-2005, 02:42 PM
Sent an email 6 days ago no reply

Posted by bqinternet, 06-06-2005, 03:16 PM
So there was a fiber cut, AND loss of customer data, at the same time? That's some bad luck.

Posted by FIAHOST, 06-06-2005, 05:33 PM
Yes, do I feel lucky? That is the question when you have no backup. http://www.bqbackup.com/ sounds intersting
