Poundhost down?

Posted by whmcsguru, 10-26-2005, 07:08 PM
These guys seem to be pretty reliable, yet I can't seem to get to their network from anywhere this afternoon: From my servers (savvis): From above.net: DNS Stuff report. Completely timing out. It's like these guys don't exist, fell offf the face of the planet or somethin.

Seeing the same here. Will give it 10 minutes then call Matt directly Rus

Went down for me from Spain, their web site is down also.

Network is unreachable for over 40 minutes now. Have you any information about the problem or ETA?

Posted by whmcsguru, 10-26-2005, 07:57 PM
Any word on this yet?

"Its a network issue in London that is being worked on." Rus

I've just stopped lurking and registered to ask this very question. The problem seems to exist on the edge of whatever network I am testing from, some major routing ****-up maybe?

Posted by whmcsguru, 10-26-2005, 08:17 PM
That's what it appears to be, a routing issue, because nothing is routing whatsoever. This isn't a "minor" issue either, sadly, it looks like one of the major players over there has some issues, because routes are just being dropped left and right.

Any update on this?

Posted by bloodyman, 10-26-2005, 08:27 PM
It is not funny now. How minor is this issue that it takes so long to get network up? Do they have only one router to Internet?

Posted by asmar, 10-26-2005, 08:30 PM
I was wondering the same bloodyman. Does anyone else had any network problems during this month?

Posted by whmcsguru, 10-26-2005, 08:32 PM
And I bet that people are screaming like mad over there. I'm pretty sure they're full aware it's not "funny". Keep in mind that this is not a minor issue, and could (note: could) very well be a pretty global thing. What do I mean, and why? Well, take a look @ the traceroutes posted. These indicate that NOTHING is leaving the U.S. at all. In fact, nothing's even hopping onto another (major) router. Why would this be if it wasn't a HUGE issue. If DC1 is down, then we'll at least get routing TO dc1, stopping a few hops before DC1. THAT is normal. In this case, however, we're not getting ANYTHING at all, but dropped packets. This says it's probably not just a minor thing, but it could (note: again, I'm speculating) be something that's pretty major over there, and certainly NOT just poundhost specific. If that's the case, then we'll just have to be patient till they get it figured out.

I've checked almost 10 hosting companies in London area and all of them are working fine.

Thinking about it, if PH went down totally for a while, the routers upstream from them would stop advertising routes via BGP, which would cascade throughout other ISP's syetms, which would result in this. Therefore it's pohat it's 'just' a connectivity outage, rather than an inter-ISP routing issue. I'm not sure wether that thought makes me more comfortable, or less. Oddly, wwwph-status.co.uk is also down (wht won't ket me post the address because I am a newbie). I always presumed that that was hosted completely seperately from the rest of the ph systems precisley for situations like this. Oh, linux-tech,.. 'over there' for you is 'over here' for me It really seems to be an issue related purely with Poundhost sites .. everything else I have tried works flawlessly.

Did anyone manage to contact them for a detailed description?

Posted by bloodyman, 10-26-2005, 08:40 PM
I've checked 6 UK companies, they are working from my area. I was working on my server, before it went down. First it looked like router issue and reboot, after a moment all Euroconnex.net network was unreachable from my location.

Posted by datajack, 10-26-2005, 08:40 PM
NOt me - my usual contact wilth them is e-mail. The only phone no's I can find are the usual office numbers that aren't being answered at this time of night (1:40 AM over here). I thought I had an emergency technical number, but can't find it.

Yes, this is true, but we're not talking 10 minutes of downtime causing that, we're talking a few hours of it. For lack of a better example: When Burst was going down repeatedly (not that it is, or isn't any more), it would be down for a good number of hours. However, I could still trace to my ip's. It is: Location: United States [City: Seattle, Washington]

My traceroute has suddenly proceeded much further than previously - maybe things are working out edit : I was looking at my ph-status trace by mistake Last edited by datajack; 10-26-2005 at 08:47 PM.

Not local here, but here's the info if someone wants to try:

Actually, ignore my last post - I'm just being dumb, and looking at something else completely.

Posted by datajack, 10-26-2005, 08:46 PM
That phone number just rings out the last time I tried (about half an hour ago). They are five+ hours drive away for me, so I can't go and knock on the door either

One of their Cisco VXR routers appears to be playing up and they are working on it Rus

Posted by bloodyman, 10-26-2005, 08:49 PM
Since 2 years I have servers with burst, I have had only one outage for 5 hours, when they have RAM issue in router 150 miles away from DC, and it take 2 hours to find tech who could repair this and another 2 horus when he get there. But all the time burst was on WHT and reporting situation. Thanks

Posted by layer0, 10-27-2005, 07:24 AM
Well, they're up now

Posted by datajack, 10-27-2005, 08:10 AM
Yeah, they came back online just a couple of minutes after WHT went down for the upgrade - couldn't have timed it better.
