Rackforce.com not working?

Posted by Hawk19, 10-28-2005, 08:19 AM
I searched for rackforce on this forum and saw that a lot of people have it. The last three or four days they have been having some serious problems keeping my site up. Then I tried to send them a support ticket, and support.rackforce.com was down, then I noticed that even rackforce.com was down. Anyone else having problems seeing as how I searched on here and no one seemed to mention anything out of the ordinary. Thanks.

I think that maybe is a problem from your ISP, since also works for me (Mexico City), maybe a simple tracert or traceroute will tell you where is the problem

Ok, now I don't think its just me. Rackforce has been down for 2 days and I haven't seen any other complaints here. I editted the hosts file with rackforces ip address and I still get nothing. Anyone have any idea whats going on or when they are expected to be back up?

Yes, RackForce has been on and off yesterday (Yesterday's downtime more than 2,5hrs). Today on the other hand, they've been offline ALL DAY long (!!!!!!!!!!!!). This is quite something for a company like them... I've been in touch with their tech support, and been told me that they have some 'serious routing problems', and for what it seems, they're quite right. Don't they offer a 99.999% uptime guarantee??? Hmm, so, according to my humble calculation, that would be 25,92 seconds a month, not 25 hrs in two days! Wow!

I know. My site was up and down for the last week and they told me it was a hardware node problem and they were fixing it. Then all of a sudden they have this routing problem. I wonder if we are going to have to pay for this horrible service.

I've been told that RackForce's "President" was paying a visit to the RF facilities today. I wonder if a few employment contracts are going to be terminated as a result of this shenanigans...

Posted by Hawk19, 10-30-2005, 09:58 PM
Who did you hear that from? I'm not sure how big RF is but I'd hope that the President was around there as the problem happened and not just going in to bust heads afterwards. I could login to the support page on Friday and I thought I saw something about routing problems that would be resolved within a few weeks. I'd love to move to a new hosting company but I can't because I need to get all my data from RF.

A support agent told me after a long chat. As far as I can tell, Rackforce sales, support and all our services are back online. So, as it seems, the President WAS indeed participating in this, as nice and promptly, there was a message to all customers this morning (GMT): ====================================================== We have recently experienced network capacity issues in both network hardware and upstream capability that has affected segments of our network. To address the capacity issues we have increased our upstream capacity of our network by 300% and are using Cisco GSR routers provided by our carriers to control the BGP routing until we upgrade our own routing equipment, which will be phased in on networks segments over the coming 2 to 3 weeks. Our expectation is that all of our clients will see a vast improvement in performance immediately. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused our valued customers. We at RackForce appreciate your business and in an effort to provide a positive effect on your business we are doubling the bandwidth capacity of all our customer servers for no extra charge. As soon as we can complete the bandwidth upgrade, the minimum 1.5Mbps will become 3Mbps, full duplex, per server account. 3Mbps, 5Mbps and 10Mbps customers will also double in capacity and for those on 100Mbps the cost of each GB will be slashed by 50% for all new pre-paid bandwidth purchases. ====================================================== Oh Mighty, they say 300% more bandwidth, this is indeed a welcome gesutre in times of need. Watch this space!

Customers of rackforce, please keep us informed of their changes, it might show up as a very good service afterall.

Posted by RossH, 10-31-2005, 10:45 AM
Umm.....so they simply ran out of bandwidth? They had no upgrade procedure? Marvelous, get out while you still can.

Posted by numaria, 10-31-2005, 11:48 AM
Err, who knows. The thing is that their service and packages are quite good (other than the fact that bandwidth prices were expensive up until this morning) ;-) If indeed one is to "get out whilst possible", one should at lest give them a chance, to see how the "free upgrades" weigh in and how reliable their uptime will be in the coming weeks. As far as I'm concerned, one more major disaster like this and yes, walking is a feasable options....

My server at rackforce has been down for a couple hours now. Their support site is down too http://support.rackforce.com

10/31/05 18:13 No reply 3 hours, 12 minutes Same here.... this better be the end of this rocky road. Rackforce? anyone there?

Posted by numaria, 11-01-2005, 06:19 AM
By the way, isn't it really EMBARRASING when they have "general" network trouble, both www.rackforce.com AND support.rackforce.com go down too? Wouldn't it be a great idea to have rackforce.com DNS and their site(s) *actually* offsite?!? When our services don't run as expected, I not tend to just go to rackforce.com to see if this is another network outage... hmmmm

www.rackforce.com, support.rackforce.com both work for me.

Posted by numaria, 11-01-2005, 06:55 AM
Indeed. We were talking about a server downtime around 6pm yesterday (Canada Time)... see my posting earlier today... :-)

Just so you know, I enquired about their bandwidth announcement (see above). The information I received was that: a) it's for new and existing customers b) permanent "offer" Although it seemed that there is no set date when everyones' bandwidth will be doubled, the tech support staff notified me that they have as of then upgraded my account by doubeling my bandwidth speed (worth $75 a month, "apparently")

Posted by Siropel, 11-08-2005, 08:40 AM
So did the services got improved or not ?

Posted by LNWServers, 11-08-2005, 01:23 PM
Running for me.

Posted by Jethost, 11-08-2005, 01:50 PM
Works for me, too

Posted by numaria, 11-08-2005, 04:07 PM
yup, all seems well, now that their bandwidth pricing is practically half price, there's ACTUALLY nothing negative to report regards to their Service, Products and prices. Only thing left is the uptime staticstics, that still look a bit damaged (very very far from 99.999%)
