56 Marietta St Problems? Idologic, Dixiesys, etc?

Posted by JenniH, 04-11-2006, 03:33 AM
I'm having problems with a couple of hosts based at Marietta St, Atlanta. Is there a known problem? For Idologic, I get: idologic.com Time (US/Eastern) Checked From Result KBytes Secs Kbps 04/11/2006 03:18:01 London UK Error N/A 20.04 N/A 04/11/2006 03:18:01 Hong Kong CHINA Error N/A 20.04 N/A 04/11/2006 03:18:01 Frankfurt GERMANY Error N/A 20.04 N/A 04/11/2006 03:18:01 Atlanta USA Error N/A 20.03 N/A 04/11/2006 03:18:01 Las Vegas USA Error N/A 20.04 N/A No DNS servers are alive for them, or for our sites hosted at Dixiesys either (also in Atlanta I believe). Anyone know what's going on?

I am hosted at quickpacket which is hosted at that DC an i cant get to my servers every ping i get weird replys like TTL expired in transite unreachable etc

Globalcompass is another one affected in that building. Their own site, globalcompass.com, gives: Error fetching SOA from ns1.globalcompass.com [66.154.95.66], request timed out. Probably DNS server is offline. Error fetching SOA from ns2.globalcompass.com [66.154.95.67], request timed out. Probably DNS server is offline. 0 server(s) are alive ... and fails to load. Has anyone got direct contact with the DC itself?

in other thread QP said work in progress to fix

Posted by JenniH, 04-11-2006, 03:49 AM
Some backup (eg: Idologic) some not (eg Globalcompass)...

Posted by gate2vn, 04-11-2006, 03:53 AM
Their mainpage - Global Compass / CyberWurx is back later than customer servers, if the network has trouble. They always bring customers online first

Posted by reamark, 04-11-2006, 03:56 AM
same here.. its still down.

Posted by RackSurge-Amit, 04-11-2006, 03:59 AM
but inquiring minds wounder what could have caused such and massive outage threw out the datacenter maybe power failer but i guess there could be a few things that could have caused it

Posted by trustedurl.com, 04-11-2006, 04:14 AM
Hmm, could be power since I now note a server or 2 have restarted.

Posted by JenniH, 04-11-2006, 04:23 AM
You seem to be one of the few with any back online from what we can see here. If it's power though, it does seem to be taking a long time for them to get the others up. The stuff we are looking at at global and dixie is still down and no sign of change.

Posted by trustedurl.com, 04-11-2006, 04:31 AM
Really? Hmm. I'm sure they're working on this as quickly as they can... I assumed they were working on a router, but am not 100% sure now.

Posted by RackSurge-Amit, 04-11-2006, 04:32 AM
well i noticed alot of the netwroks are back online such as main sites for all the companies, but alot of servers will prolly need reboot and maybe fsck if it was power failer and the quest is how long will all that take

Posted by JenniH, 04-11-2006, 04:39 AM
I spoke too soon Ido.... our sites with you just went down again: 04/11/2006 04:38:04 Oklahoma City USA Error N/A 20.03 N/A 04/11/2006 04:38:04 Orlando USA Error N/A 20.03 N/A 04/11/2006 04:38:04 Atlanta USA Error N/A 20.04 N/A 04/11/2006 04:38:04 Chicago USA Error N/A 20.03 N/A 04/11/2006 04:38:04 Hong Kong CHINA Error N/A 20.04 N/A 04/11/2006 04:38:04 Las Vegas USA Error N/A 20.04 N/A 04/11/2006 04:38:04 Frankfurt GERMANY Error N/A 20.04 N/A 04/11/2006 04:38:04 London UK Error N/A 20.04 N/A And still no sign of recovery from the others.

I rebooted 1 server just now to clean up some things, that's probably what you're seeing.

Posted by JenniH, 04-11-2006, 04:45 AM
Has that boot completed?

Posted by trustedurl.com, 04-11-2006, 04:45 AM
Have you tried tracerouting your site? Just curious...

Posted by trustedurl.com, 04-11-2006, 04:48 AM
no, fscking, 70%. should be 5 minutes or so it's going quite fast. Our site is up for me and alertra...

Posted by JenniH, 04-11-2006, 04:52 AM
Yes. It gives: "Sorry, I could not determine the IP for zzz (error 11004)." Which I guess pertains to: "Error fetching SOA from ns14.webserverdns.com [69.61.30.225], request timed out. Probably DNS server is offline. Error fetching SOA from ns13.webserverdns.com [69.61.30.224], request timed out. Probably DNS server is offline"

That server is back... :| backlogged on tickets...

Posted by reamark, 04-11-2006, 04:57 AM
uhm... still down from here...

Posted by JenniH, 04-11-2006, 04:58 AM
Yes, our Ido sites are back... but not so those with other hosts. I wonder what is going on? It can't simply be power after this length of time.

Posted by trustedurl.com, 04-11-2006, 04:58 AM
Ok, good to hear that we're back... I'm going over all our servers now to make sure everything started properly...

When power is interrupted to a server, it can cause a corruption of the file system, which requires a file system check before the server can come back online. A file system check requires a root password to be performed. This requires manual intervention using a crash cart. Unfortuantely, this takes time since there are a limited number of crash carts, and a limited number of staff people.

Very true, QuickPacket... I know they're working on it...

Posted by reamark, 04-11-2006, 05:07 AM
its' back again..

Posted by JenniH, 04-11-2006, 05:08 AM
It's just that there seem to be so many hosts/servers affected. I would have expected only a small percentage to need an fsck... that percentage seems too high though for a simple power failure recovery. However, my sample is very small, so it could be the case. I guess we just have to wait to hear from them.

Dear Cyber Wurx Customer, Please be advised that a power panel controlling a portion of the Data Center failed early this morning. This was only affecting a portion of the Data Center and not the entire facility. At this time the panel has been powered back on. Electricians are on site to finish repairing and inspecting the panel. Over the next 60 minutes we will be making power modifications to permanently correct the issues at hand. During this time some of you may experience difficulty accessing your website or server, however we are working diligently to correct the current situation. If you continue to experience problems accessing your web server after 5am EST, please contact Customer Support immediately. Thank you for your patience. Best regards, Cyber Wurx Web Services

I received that too... still checking all server.

Posted by JenniH, 04-11-2006, 06:15 AM
Our sites with you are still up... but not so the rest. Could you post any updates from them here? Thanks.

Posted by JenniH, 04-11-2006, 06:48 AM
Globalcompass seems to have sprung into life, but not so Dixiesys, and no response at all to the tickets from them

Posted by zimage, 04-12-2006, 07:58 PM
Does anyone know the current status of this? I have had no route to my VPS for nearly 40 hours now, and my hosts are not responding to any support tickets. A traceroute shows this: 11 ge-1-atl1-cust1.globalcompass.com (66.154.95.221) 28.203 ms 10.286 ms 12.199 ms 12 69.61.31.122 (69.61.31.122) 19.168 ms 14.382 ms 17.195 ms 13 * * * So I am assuming the problem is with globalcompass...

Posted by trustedurl.com, 04-12-2006, 08:00 PM
Nope, I believe this is all resolved... I don't think this is one of ours, but what's the ip you're trying to reach?

Posted by gate2vn, 04-12-2006, 08:01 PM
You should submit a ticket to your provider, not post here. CyberWurx / Global Compass doesnt provide VPS, so I assume problem is from your provider's server

69.61.62.186 This became unroutable starting a few minutes after 3am Tuesday morning (EDT... so just a few minutes before this thread was started). Last edited by zimage; 04-12-2006 at 08:50 PM.

definetely dead... you'll have to call your provider like gate2vn mentioned.

Posted by qps, 04-12-2006, 08:51 PM
Who is your VPS provider? Just tried it from the data center and I can't get to it.

Posted by zimage, 04-12-2006, 08:53 PM
Only wish they had a phone number. Only form of support is their ticket system, which I haven't gotten a response from in 36 hours now. vpsland.com

Posted by reamark, 04-13-2006, 08:32 AM
not sure if possible but try to contact globalcompass an explaining your problem ask of the owner if the IP block and phone number. They should help you to contact your vps seller.

You could try to e-mail support@cyberwurx.com about it.
