Level3.net Router traffic bunged up?

Hi, I have been having troubles downloading from my website (ftp & http)for about the past week, my hosting company has traced it to level3.net routers in Chicago between them and my isp. Has anyone else been seeing any problems with level3.net through chicago? Also, wouldn't level3.net have fixed these issues by now? My traceroutes from my connection to my site don't go through chicago level3.net routers, but my host says the data coming from the server back to me does. Any ideas or suggestions on how to investigate this further? Thanks

Do a traceroute from the server to you.

I would love to, but I don't have that kind of access. Its shared hosting with no shell access. They provided me with a trace they did from the server to my address, and it shows a packet loss of 70% on a level3.net router in chicago. That was awhile ago though, figured level3 would have fixed it by now.

If its your host's network that is sending the data over Level(3), and they are multi-homed to several carriers, they should simply preference another provider for your AS. If they are having issues in general, why don't they remove it temporarily? There is nothing you can do, your host essentially admitted fault. If they are multi-homed, it is entirely within their control to preference another route.

I am starting to notice a bunch of complaints on my hosts message board about problems similar to mine (bad downloads, good uploads). Finally other people are having the same problem, now I know I'm not nutz. Maybe now they'll take notice and do something about it and really look into the changing the routing preference as you say they might be able to do. To late for me though, good test with them, bad results, I'll keep searching for a reliable host.
