Sago down again??

Posted by int., 03-26-2007, 11:32 PM
Sago down for the second time in a week? My server is down, and yet again (after they claimed to be mirroring their site to their other DC), their main site is down as well! Can anyone confirm?

Posted by sprintserve, 03-26-2007, 11:39 PM
Yes it's down for some routes.

Unreachable here as of 8:40PM PST

on ssh i get connection refused i cant get anywhere close to a sago ip on tracert however data is getting out as i have a bot reporting to me that the box is up

EDIT: Seems to be back up for good I hope the site mirroring gets attended to ASAP (it has been 7 days since it was apparently getting worked on), and that this downtime stops occuring. I stuck with Sago through the problems over a year ago, and have been happy with them and my decision since, but lately, i'm getting more and more worried about their reliability =/ Last edited by int.; 03-27-2007 at 12:13 AM.

The site mirroring will do nothing to help your servers. It may keep their website up, but not sure how that helps you when all your servers are down.

Obviously it'll do nothing to help our servers - but it'll help with peace of mind when they actually have a means to update us on what's going on / what the problem is. The most frustrating part to me is not having ANY idea when my server may come back online. Obviously they would not only need to mirror their website but have someone sit there and update the situation ... for the site mirroring to actually matter. It would also just be nice to see them follow through on something they promised...

As indicated by phinxter and Sprintserve, their servers and Sago's network was up, but for some inbound routes there were routing issues which prevented connectivity for some users. Sago's IP Engineers contacted peers about the issue which they handled and resolved. Anytime you cannot reach your server, a traceroute is a great way to indentify where the connection stops befre reaching your system. This can be applied to any servers anywhere in the world and is useful information for both you and your hosting provider. Linux: try running: mtr xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx <- server IP or domain Windows: from command line run: tracert xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx <- server IP or domain

Donovan - I ran a tracert the moment I got alerted (by SMS) that my server was down, and could not get past *TPA*.glbx.net. I had a couple of colleagues try to access my site (and Sago's) as well, and they could not get through either. Therefore, it wasn't just "some" routes that were unreachable, it was many. This is the second time within a week that many of our servers have been unreachable. Is this something that we should expect to happen often over the coming weeks, since Sago lost Level3? Where I completely understand the occasional problem occuring, I'm sure you can understand the frustration when an issue arises for the second time in a mere 7 days. It's quite concerning!

I got a sms from hyperspin alerting me of this yesterday. At least 5 different routes were affected. I've really stuck with Sago through the ups and downs. Maybe it's time to move to a different provider. I've really lost confidence in them, all this talk but nothing is completed. When was the last promise that was fulfilled? It seems to be getting worse, not better. I want to see some action, less talk.. And, no updates on your own forums??

We do keep customers informed of Sago's issues, other network providers issues, and our customers' own server issues. We may not post immediately on forums when the problem first appears because we are dedicating our man-power to correcting the matter. We also wouldn't want to misdiagnose an issue or place blame elsewhere just to point the finger. Employees at Sago Networks strive to give service above and beyond to our customers. If you think that informing customers immediately is the highest priority when an issue occurs then that is something we may take into consideration. For now, I think that giving an accurate assessment of any network problems will come before trying to get customers the fastest explanation. If you have further thoughts on this matter, please feel free to contact me. Thank you.

Are they down again this morning? I can't reach my WHM or any of my sites.

Do you too face the same situation. We have 3 servers with sago and all are down. Their site will not respond as well. And all their phone lines are busy!

It is back again!

Was down for about half an hour. Their own site was up for a while initially, but no updates were posted to the Network Status Blog (or have been even now). Helpdesk site went down by the time I filled out a ticket and got to the submit button.

Network status update FYI. http://sagonet.com/netstatus.php We have Foundry Engineers flying in to perform the needed update to their core equipment tonight.

Posted by HD Fanatic, 04-11-2007, 11:51 PM
Man, this is the worst year for the network.

That wonderful foundry gear is why we left sago a few years back... nice to see it's still giving you trouble

Posted by dspkable, 04-12-2007, 01:50 PM
This is a new fully redundant core not the old gear. This device was implemented weeks ago and needed an update per the Foundry engineers. They flew in yesterday evening for the upgrade. Upgrade complete.

The Foundry gear has caused more problems since it was changed from Cisco.
