UKeasily: Network down and no support!

Posted by I, Brian, 05-23-2008, 02:57 PM
ukeasily have been down for at least the past 3 hours. Anyone know what's up with them? I'm hoping it's a DC outage rather than anything more serious, but if so, any info on that?

Down and out judging by the other thread!

I'm really hoping someone here can help me. 3.30pm (GMT) yesterday ukeasily's network went down (I'm assuming it's their network as ukeasily.co.uk is down too). 14 Hours later, after many calls (all of which rang out to an answerphone) and several left messages I've received absolutely no support or had any contact with a UKeasily rep. Does anyone have anyway of contact this company or have a support telephone number that they actually support on? This is now starting to get really important and any help would be great. Regards, W.> Last edited by woostar; 05-24-2008 at 02:07 AM.

Down and out judging by other posts

someone we know has been trying to contact them for 15hrs without response on their emergency mobile number. we are placing them on a holding server for now so at least they can get back up and running, we will reclaim their data if the nodes return... lets hope you didn`t pay them annually. a week ago one of their sister companies lost some servers also that have not returned have to say though it doesn`t look hopeful..

Posted by woostar, 05-24-2008, 03:35 AM
Tell me about it. That's what I get for trying to save a few bob. Tried them on the mobile too. On the phone now to my credit card to find out if I can claim back (i've only been with them for about 2 months). My problem now is that one of the main websites hosted is a forum that receives between 4 and 5 thousand posts a day. So I know that we've lost a good 5 - 8 hours worth of posts from the last off site backup. It's a tough call as to whether or not I cut my losses and find another company that has ready to go servers and try and get up and running by lunchtime or wait and see if I can get a more up-to-date backup. ....fuming, shudda seen this coming when it took them almost 4 weeks to hand over the server.

Posted by hostrecovery, 05-24-2008, 03:43 AM
the client that contacted us has several servers with them, bad thing is also that they cannot get to their backup data

Posted by I, Brian, 05-24-2008, 03:49 AM
Does anyone know ukeasily's upstream provider? I have three reseller accounts with them, which includes three news sites, and I need to access the data to at least propagate the sites out. My backups are a month old, so that's a lot of potential data loss. This is a bad situation when a hosting companies customers are offline for this long.

Posted by woostar, 05-24-2008, 04:15 AM
This is a network problem right. So the servers are all there idling away while we have no access; which to means 1 of 2 things. 1.) They knew that they were going to be disconnected (due to none payment of bills or whatever). or 2.) This is a genuine network problem that seems to be steming from ukgrid.net (which is where the trail ends / timeouts when I trace the route). At least the data is in tact (fat lot of good that is at the mo. but good to know). I'm guessing that ukgrid.net is their provider as it is based from the same location. Eitherway that is no excuse for not replying to answerphone messages explaining the problem.

Hi all, Im one of those customers who has been affected with this outage! Anyone have any updates on the situation as i have been unable to contact them too! Regards Tom

Posted by I, Brian, 05-24-2008, 05:29 AM
Update: looks like UKeasily have been disconnected: http://www.webhostingworld.co.uk/200...r-data-center/

Dear All, The issue with UK Easily being down is not a technical issue, the network feed we supply then was disconnected yesterday. I do appreciate there are a lot of customers that use UK Easily that need access to their data. I am going to bring up the port for the next 3 hours so you can retrieve your data. I would like to stress that UK Grid does not own the Data Centre that UK Easily hosts in, we merely provide them with IP transit from one of our own facilities in Greenheys. Many thanks Paddy UK Grid 0845 260 4743 Last edited by UKGrid; 05-24-2008 at 05:40 AM.

You absolute beauty! Thank you soo much!

Posted by I, Brian, 05-24-2008, 05:41 AM
Already backed up my data - many many thanks, UKgrid.

Thanks Paddy, I must start by saying that I am the non-techie part of Soweb. My problem is that I have paid for a very large advertising campaign that hits this weekend. So whilst my request may seem rather unusual, is may be a simple short term solution to me and a lot of frustrated people: In my lay terms, if I was to personally pay you to keep this "pipe" open for a week rather than a few hours, is that something you could accomodate? I phoned the number you gave, but was told that there was not a Paddy there. Having said that I was impressed with the proffessional way whoever answered the phone ( female ) dealt with me. Regards Andy

Hi Andy, Our main number is 0845 260 4743. When i first posted there was a typo in the phone number. Thanks Paddy

Posted by DevMonkey, 05-24-2008, 06:57 AM
If the pipe was kept open for you Andy, what would happen if UKEasily moved/disconnected your server at the actual facility? Surely it would be a good idea to run ASAP!

Posted by woostar, 05-24-2008, 11:09 AM
just got this:- Any choice words?

Posted by DevMonkey, 05-24-2008, 01:13 PM
Blah, rubbish. Today was a great highlight for me to prove that the experience I had with pre-sales was a good summary of their business... other people have had similar experiences with them too..

Posted by campagnolo, 05-24-2008, 01:40 PM
Hi All I had the same message from UKEasily as woostar above. It is distinctly short on information. It does not give a reason for the outage beyond 'network issues'. I know that the people from UKEasily read this forum so I have a couple of questions for them: Why did UKGrid disconnect your network feed?Did you know in advance that they were going to do this? When did the outage start and end? I must say that I have been happy with UKEasily up to now - but if you don't keep people fully informed then they are bound to jump to their own unfavourable conclusions. Cheers

... And down again. This is a complete and utter joke. *crosses fingers that PacificRack manage to get the new server online soon* Last edited by philpem; 05-24-2008 at 06:18 PM.

Posted by soweb, 05-24-2008, 06:18 PM
Grrr what a nightmare this is becoming... I wonder whether its a "NETWORK ISSUE" again or they have been disconnected for good?

Posted by emuload, 05-25-2008, 03:59 AM
I'm hosted at HostingDepartment. I contacted a host called Kent Web Hosting Solutions, and a representative told me about the UKEasily server outage and that its what has been affecting HostingDepartment. The US servers have been down for almost 11 days now, and I need my data. I'm going to try to call UKEasily...but anyone else have suggestions? This is a disaster, seeing as my last backup is from 8 months ago!

Posted by cristibighea, 05-25-2008, 04:24 AM
It's sad that it takes a problem like this to make you aware of how important backups are; hope you can get your data back soon.

Posted by xentury, 05-25-2008, 08:04 AM
Do you think they will ever come up again?? I need to get my data!!

Posted by grandad, 05-25-2008, 08:09 AM
Contact these people as soon as you can:

Posted by xentury, 05-25-2008, 09:05 AM
Thanks, tried to call them but no luck... maybe tomorrow, on Monday

Posted by Dan_EZPZ, 05-25-2008, 09:32 AM
Monday is a Bank Holiday so you still might not have much luck, tuesday would be your best bet.

Posted by xentury, 05-25-2008, 10:54 AM
I contacted them through mail and I've been able to back up my data!! UKgrid people is great

Posted by grandad, 05-25-2008, 03:18 PM
Good news I would advise all UKEasily customers to do the same rather than hope that things will turn around - you data is precious!

Posted by emuload, 05-25-2008, 07:56 PM
Yeah how'd you contact them by mail? (Do they have an email address?) Thanks in advance...

Posted by soweb, 05-25-2008, 08:12 PM
Try "Support [@] ukgrid.net" Ive moved both of our servers from UKE as we have felt what we have experienced the last few days has not been good enough!

Posted by emuload, 05-25-2008, 08:33 PM
thanks, I've emailed them and anxiously await their reply...

Posted by MULITRI, 05-26-2008, 01:57 AM
I am another customer who received that email, they deceived me one more time... and last. I have been customer of HostingDepartment and now UKEasily, and since they moved datacenter from USA to UK, the whole service has not been good by far. I am going to email UKGrid right now whishing to have luck to recover a full backup, due to terrible personal problems which finished with my loved Wife passing away on April, i couldnt be able to stay online and in close contact with my server and ukeasily. I hope UKGrid can help me to get a recent backup to move to another company asap, if not, i can consider myself dead on internet, no feeling to start from scratch. Thanks to everybody for the information. Regards, Jose

Posted by MULITRI, 05-26-2008, 08:39 AM
I just had a reply from UKGrid, they have opened my IP for i can back up all my data, they are really helpful persons. Now i have a noob problem, this was my first server and i dont really know how to access to my server out of whm. Please, if anyone knows how to, PM me, i will appreciate it very much. Thanks

Posted by emuload, 05-26-2008, 09:06 AM
They havent yet replied to me...and I'm not sure how they're about to help me get my backup. Are they just gonna enable FTP or something?

Posted by cristibighea, 05-26-2008, 09:24 AM
If you don't know how to backup your server, you should try hiring someone to do it for you, since I doubt UKGrid will be able to sort that stuff out for you.

Posted by MULITRI, 05-26-2008, 09:51 AM
They only are the bandwith providers, they have not access to the servers, the only thing they can do is to open the port for the IP of your server, nothing inside your server will be accessible via http, and i think neither via ftp. Paddy told me something about make a SSH over the server, but i dont really know what is that and how to do it.

Posted by woostar, 05-26-2008, 10:09 AM
Download a program like Bitvise Tunnelier (http://www.bitvise.com/tunnelier) and enter your IP, root username and password and then use the SFTP feature to download.

Posted by MULITRI, 05-26-2008, 10:39 AM
Thanks a lot woostar, i will try that right now.

Posted by MULITRI, 05-26-2008, 11:42 AM
I have tried that program, it works, but... or i may be dumb (surely) or the server is totaly empty. All i can see after login is root/ (direction bar) and the following folders .cpanel .cpobjcache .gnupg .MirrorSearch .spamassassin .ssh cpanel3-skel Nothing inside those folders about my website. i guess someone has been inside my server before myself, because in the msdos windows when i first logged in, there was a different last login than mine. Well, i think this is my end on Internet, with my recent personal tragedy i have not really feeling to start over. Thanks to eveybody for your support and help. Kind Regards, Jose

Posted by woostar, 05-26-2008, 11:49 AM
type / and then enter. I'm not sure where all the data is stored in cpanel (as I use DirectAdmin) but 90% of the files you'll need will be in /home

Posted by MULITRI, 05-26-2008, 12:25 PM
I have seen what you mean woostar, now i have seen the files, i have put to download the whole /home folder. Thanks a lot for your help. Probably you have saved one of the best "offline" arcade websites on the internet LOL Regards, Jose

wooster how much data do you have to recover? any ideas? sorry don't have permission to pm you

Posted by woostar, 05-26-2008, 12:46 PM
If you have a database driven website make sure you back up your sql's by typing mysqldump -u user -p password -h localhost john_db > /root/outputfile.sql user: The user that has access to the database you want to backup password: The password of that user host: Your database host; usually setting this to localhost works fine outputfile: The name of the file you want to backup the database to. then download from /root directory

Thank you hostagency, very interesting. I have now to go outta home, i will take a further look to it when i come back. Thanks, Jose

Posted by astutiumRob, 05-26-2008, 03:05 PM
There should be no space between p and password Kudos to ukgrid for helping people out in a difficult situation. And *please* everyone, learn to take more regular backups now ...

Whilst I totally applaud the positive attitude of people sharing information on this forum to help each other, I just cannot get my head around the fact that the management at UKEasily just walked away from the problem without warning it's customers first. I may be wrong but i think that one of the websites set up to help find the missing girl "maddie" also went down as a result. If that is true then what a bunch of callous individuals ryan curtis and his cohorts are. If i am wrong then i apologise! I understand that people from many walks of life have a website and we all suffered but for those who run a business such as myself then it has been a disaster. Yes, I know there are more important things in life but providing the vital information to new and existing customers is a high priority as well as keeping enough business coming in so that peoples jobs are not at risk. If Ryan Curtis or one of his executive managers had come clean and said that they would be closing down and that all customers must make thier own arrangements after a set date then we would have respected them a bit more. We could have sourced new hosting before thier bandwidth was switched off causing little trouble. I did not choose UkEasily because they was cheap. I needed a company that could support Postgresql and IONCUBE amongst other things and they seemed like the only respectable company that could do it. Now the website has been down for a week. i cannot bear to think about the amount of lost business and i have staff panicking about thier jobs. I have existing customers wondering if we have gone bust ourselves. All thanks to the selfishness of UkEasily. Whether it is right or wrong i want thier heads on a plate if you pardon the expression. If you are interested in joining forces to sue the crap out of them then give me a bell at businessfiles2000@yahoo.co.uk and we can figure out what we can do. For those critics out there that think i should just cust my losses and get on with my life i will fit this into my busy schedule as a company director on principle. I just do not see how people should get away with this behaviour. It begs the question whether the government should regulate the hosting industry. Maybe a letter to my MP is in order. Hope to hear from you with either your support or any valuable information that could support an attack on the directors of port9 ltd. They have a limited company and whilst the liability is limited they may have assetts. I myself have lost a years subscription but more importantly a stack of business. rot in hell Ryan Curtis. I am coming after you.

May I ask how you're able to help PeterVerrill? I find it interesting how this tread managed to hide away for a while now and everybody had forgotten about it, this shouldn't be allowed to happen! I guess there is nothing that can be done though, shame on the provider.

I'm about to send you a PM with some details.

I used to be a client of Hosting Department (UK Easily's sister company). HD moved our files from US to UK servers last June 2007. So I believe that our files are in UK Easily servers from June 2007 up to now. Can anyone still help me get my files back?
