back here also...

My users are receiving horrid 3k+ latency to my LSN server. I've had numerous downtimes over the last six hours and it's not getting any better. Lodged a ticket...let's see how it goes.

Posted by pixeldawn, 09-17-2008, 09:15 AM
Hmm, I didn't notice any downtime nor is my latency any higher than usual. It appears only some of the clients were affected.

Posted by JLHC, 09-17-2008, 09:15 AM
Their main site is up from here.

Posted by Robert vd Boorn, 09-17-2008, 09:43 AM

Posted by Hastings, 09-17-2008, 09:52 AM
LSN is having network problems. Bear with 'em... Your data is all fine.

Posted by spdfox, 09-17-2008, 09:57 AM
yes, but we need the servers working and online

Posted by Bjørn-Erik Hansen, 09-17-2008, 09:57 AM
All of my server's are down as well, so is their website. Guess it's a network issue.

Posted by pixeldawn, 09-17-2008, 09:59 AM
This totally sucks, what's the point of having multiple bandwidth carriers ? Also, Cologuys seem to be up, doesn't LSN share the DC space with Cologuys ? Last edited by pixeldawn; 09-17-2008 at 10:03 AM.

down for me too ... all my 32 sites are down at the moment :-s i hope it will be fixed ASAP.

Posted by darksidepuffin, 09-17-2008, 10:03 AM
Unresolvable from Atlantic Canada. I've been thus far impressed with their services, but I wish someone from there would actually update this thread officially. Has anyone tried calling them yet?

Posted by Hastings, 09-17-2008, 10:03 AM
Exactly. Something tells me I'll be writing a formal complaint and requesting full information on their "multiple" bandwidth carriers. No way in hell it should completely go down like this if there's more than one bandwidth carrier, unless it was some kind of internal issue before it's all routed out, which in a way would make more sense since their in the infomart... /me detects shady business EDIT: according to a friend of mine, LSN shares space with a company called "Cologuys", and their website is up. This is indeed odd.

Posted by spdfox, 09-17-2008, 10:03 AM
yes ..........

This is currently being discussed in the outages forum...

yes... limestonenetwork down!!!

Posted by Bjørn-Erik Hansen, 09-17-2008, 10:05 AM
Hastings, that's rude, utterly rude, do you have any valid proof ? Could be a faulty hardware, something at all. IMO, I doubt they are shady.

Posted by webtech, 09-17-2008, 10:05 AM
From Kris @ Limestone. This is upstream and they have Network Engineers in route. No ETA at this time. Looks like SiteUptime is reporting the outage at 8:46AM Central Time.

Posted by sloogy, 09-17-2008, 10:19 AM
Is there any way of posting a 404 page error when such events happen? I have a 40k uniques per day visitors site down right now which people relay on - they sure hate me now

Posted by Hastings, 09-17-2008, 10:20 AM
LSN isn't the world's biggest datacenter, their a small part of the infomart. They are in no way the whole thing. When I say that I detected shady business, I meant in no way the servers/company, I meant more how it's interesting that all the bandwidth providers are down. When I called, LSN's support guy (didn't get a name) told me that it was a single bandwidth provider outage, thus my conclusion that they probably don't have more than one, or have a very disorganized system. If that is in fact not the case, my mistake.

Posted by Bjørn-Erik Hansen, 09-17-2008, 10:20 AM
Their website seems to be back online now. Hastings, maybe you should use another wording then, Shady means illegal, bizarre, corrupt, etc.

Posted by Khell, 09-17-2008, 10:20 AM

Hopefully Ryan will be here shortly to elaborate on why there was a 40min outage.

Posted by Prolime Servers, 09-17-2008, 10:30 AM
Great! servers are back now im really willing to know from lsn staff that why this happen :-)

Posted by sloogy, 09-17-2008, 10:31 AM
why whould someone ddos limestone, and also to make all the servers go down don't they need to ddos the whole network?

Posted by Bjørn-Erik Hansen, 09-17-2008, 10:33 AM
There are some guys who are jealous at others, it can be anything that was the reason for such a large attack.

Posted by digitalpure, 09-17-2008, 10:49 AM
Talked to Chris as LSN and he said all sites went offline at 8:40am (CST) and all my sites came back online at 9:22am (CST) I am just happy that I could still call them, and they were very open about the outage and did not give me some bull answer. They owned up to the problem. Kudos to LSN for that.

Posted by spdfox, 09-17-2008, 11:03 AM
we expect details from that happened

Posted by Bjørn-Erik Hansen, 09-17-2008, 11:12 AM
Details were given, it was a DDoS Attack. What more do you want to know ? The offended IP? The attacker(s) IP(s) ?

Posted by spdfox, 09-17-2008, 11:16 AM
I believe that it is necessary the official version of them

Thats pretty responsive turn around time. My hats off.

Posted by Bjørn-Erik Hansen, 09-17-2008, 11:20 AM
Then call them, Live Chat, support Tickets. Ryan won't be around for another hour.

Posted by N|Kitmitto, 09-17-2008, 11:41 AM
My first live chat client this morning was their VPS is down. I immediately called LSN with my client on live chat and they told me this is the first time they have experienced a network outage and are trying to figure it out. They have technicians on the floor and have alerted the directors of LSN. But I think it's back up because I can access my server. -Nick

Posted by phrozen755, 09-17-2008, 12:44 PM
*slams hand against head* Forget this, I just canceled my LSN account, I can't take this crap anymore!

again !!!!!!!

Posted by Bjørn-Erik Hansen, 09-17-2008, 12:47 PM
I guess it's another DDoS. I so hope LSN add some more effective protection now...

Posted by ayksolutions, 09-17-2008, 12:53 PM
Yep, can't access their site either. Or rather, it comes up very slowly. Looks like a DDOS.

Hugo packet loss

Posted by WP Monkey, 09-17-2008, 12:56 PM
Not again.. Dang it.

Posted by mifbody, 09-17-2008, 01:00 PM
Down again. Slooooooooooooooowly bringing my site up finally. Just checked in here to see if I was the only one experiencing it but then I saw this at the top. I can get to LSN's website fine, but when I do rw.lsn.com is when I get no response.

Posted by pixeldawn, 09-17-2008, 01:02 PM
This is totally unacceptable

Posted by Khell, 09-17-2008, 01:02 PM
I'm experiencing huge packet loss and latency as well. The webserver is still accessible, but everything else times out. It's too bad "everything else" is the primary focus of my server.

Posted by Bjørn-Erik Hansen, 09-17-2008, 01:05 PM
Once the RW is back, it's time to claim the SLA.

Posted by spdfox, 09-17-2008, 01:06 PM
yes ... online, but packet loss

Posted by Bortman, 09-17-2008, 01:11 PM
Terrible timing for me. They had been doing well for a while now, too!

Posted by pedroivomedeiros, 09-17-2008, 01:13 PM
I didn`t know the SLA was to be submited after 7 days of the episode. My server, which was due on day 25 12:00 PM was disconnect on the morning of day 25... I was going to pay the bill during day 25, and my server got disconnected much earlier than due time. i got up with messages saying that the server was offline, so i entered the Support Live Chat and they recognized the error and reconected my server. No compensation was even offered But they said it won`t happen again and i am happy with it. I forgot to ask information about SLA on this event... so i asked today and they said that i should have submeted it on 7 days after. So, not SLA for that for me hehehe But i hope they fixed and it won`t happen to anyone...

Posted by BudWay, 09-17-2008, 01:13 PM
The main protection against dos is large pipe (spare capacity).

Posted by Bjørn-Erik Hansen, 09-17-2008, 01:14 PM
I am nearly there! RW is nearly done loading!

Posted by mifbody, 09-17-2008, 01:14 PM
Mine is coming up now, a little slow but getting progressively better.

Posted by Protollix, 09-17-2008, 01:15 PM
After a very nice first two months, I am now regretting moving to LSN from TP. TP was killing me on costs, and LSN was cheaper - but I have had nothing but problems with LSN this month. This just takes the cake. They are pretty much putting me out of business.

Posted by silendreamer, 09-17-2008, 01:15 PM
down again ?

Posted by silendreamer, 09-17-2008, 01:16 PM
isnt this the first time it happened this month? i never experienced downtime on my site with LSN atleast ..

Posted by Bjørn-Erik Hansen, 09-17-2008, 01:20 PM
If you read their SLA Page, you would have known. Yea, It would be great to get some larger pipes, indeed. Indeed, this is the first time this month, have had no problems for about two months now.

Posted by pixeldawn, 09-17-2008, 01:20 PM
This is the first time since June that I'm having an issue with LSN. I hope they can get things resolved soon.

Posted by mifbody, 09-17-2008, 01:20 PM
Bleh, looks like it for me! Darn, it was back to normal for like 5 minutes and now it's completely dead again. I hope this time they're upgrading and/or taking the connections down due to a fix against any future ddos attacks.

Posted by RalphC, 09-17-2008, 01:21 PM
Sell WHM is down....not my vps node though...I submitted a tracert and no response yet.

First time for the DDoS since I have been with them. I have been fighting them for over a week now to get routing on my new, non-blacklisted IP block corrected - which they claim they have heard NOTHING from their "upstream provider". Well, now I have one block that is blacklisted by SORBS, Barracuda Networks and a few others (the whole flippin' C class is listed) and the new block isn't listed, but over half my customers can't access the IPs, and sending mail via those IPs results in timeouts since the routing is foobarred. So yeah, I have customers threatening to leave in droves after 5 years of rock solid service because LSN can't get their proverbial poop together.

Posted by Bortman, 09-17-2008, 01:31 PM
Yep, they are working very quickly on losing my business. I've never had this many outages in a 6 month period with any hosting provider. I've had a couple servers inexplicably go down as well, and when I contact support the response is always that "a network cable was unplugged." Is somebody just going around unplugging network cables willy nilly? Get your stuff together.

Posted by ceridius, 09-17-2008, 01:34 PM

Now it`s packet loss and Huge latency (500+ ms)

Posted by Bjørn-Erik Hansen, 09-17-2008, 01:45 PM
I wouldn't call LSN Shoddy (Could be that I misunderstood you there), but from the past experience I've had with them, they've always managed to get me happy. Do it as I do, get a couple of more servers (Yes I know, will be shooting the costs skyhigh) And then add some redundancy dns system. That way you will still be online.

Posted by Bortman, 09-17-2008, 01:51 PM
I don't think they are necessarily shoddy, but they should at least have more than one incoming pipe if they keep getting hit with DDOS's. It's obvious they need to address the problem because it keeps coming up. I have no doubt that they'll get it fixed today, but will it come up again tomorrow? I have a bunch of servers through them, not just for web hosting. I've also got a rack of servers elsewhere that need to communicate with the LSN servers to get work done. When they have network problems, it puts the whole day behind schedule and just causes general headache. Anyway, I'm just griping because I have nothing better to do while waiting for the fix

Posted by pedroivomedeiros, 09-17-2008, 01:56 PM
All up for me... how much time of outage? The first they said it was 34 minutes and this second?

Posted by silendreamer, 09-17-2008, 01:56 PM
all is back up and running fine at the moment

Posted by hostpc.com, 09-17-2008, 02:08 PM
They're telling me That isn't a complete answer - but it's something to pass to my customers.

Posted by jackpx, 09-17-2008, 02:12 PM
but they had said that it was a ddos.

Posted by Bjørn-Erik Hansen, 09-17-2008, 02:21 PM
It was a DDoS first. They are 8 hours behind me, so for me, it's still morning when the DDoS happened.

How much time was the downtime? will you guys claim SLA? All afternoon was lost! server was up and down all the time, unusable! And they said that the network WAS NOT DOWN. "the Internap issues were carrier specific, and our Level 3 and Global Crossing backbones were still functioning." But so... why no one could access and use the server? Any way we can carry out a counter-attack? I'll give my pal G. Bush a call, he's got connections...

Will I be reimbursed for the 10+ hours I lost?

Posted by j2m2, 09-17-2008, 11:16 PM
you guys are actually lucky. from when i got my server i've been loosing packets like a mad man. I believe this is the 74.xxx.xxx.xxx range as my other servers on the 69.xxx.xxx.xxx have had no issues

As noted above, WHT isn't really the best support medium, so it would be best to contact them directly in regards to reimbursement.

People crying about refunds should go cry with a ticket or email. Its too bad you're suffering (so Is LSN I'm sure)...but I think you need to start worrying about knowing where to post your questions...the only answers you'll get here are from other members who was smart enough to ask the question on live chat, ticket or email. Get over there and ask..if you didn't like something they said come here and moan and groan...its almost as if you're posting here believing that WHT is going to pay you back. On a side note, the network issue was an hour(total appx 2 hours or less) ? or so in duration . I have seen worse than that...but yes, I do agree..something we would not like to see. I think I'll do that via ticket rather than here :-)
