Posted by reamark, 05-14-2008, 07:25 AM
yes it seems they have some network down... Just got a relaplay to my support ticket ...they are working on this problem...

The VPS I am on... is under high load

Finally, its back online

I have experienced the outage as well. I have found SLhost.com to be frequently sluggish. That was surprising to me considering it is a VPS and frequently reponds slower than my most basic hosting elsewhere. Any suggestions on a truly reliable VPS host? Thanks.

You can ask for recommendations in the main forum. An outage thread isn't really appropriate

Last week my server was down for 7 hours with no explanation even after 3 tickets asking what the deal was. Tonight not only is the server down but the support server is down! I am not the kind to muck up a host on a forum after the first hiccup. I have had fairly significant issues with support in the past that I just swept under the rug but the servers being down are a little scary. Has anyone else been having issues with SLHost?

Posted by Kody, 06-22-2008, 07:55 PM
Down for me too, this should be in the Network and Outages forum. (www.slhost.com) Last edited by Kody; 06-22-2008 at 07:59 PM.

Guess I put this in the wrong forum the first time. SLHost down for anyone else? My server was down for 7 hours on the 12th. So the server being down 10 days later is pretty concerning. Anyone know what is going on?

They are moving to a new data center. The mailed me weeks before they planned to do this. I also got a second E-mail 24 hours before they did the move. After that I had a server that was slow, they tuned it after only 10 min and it's running fine now. Didn't you get 2 E-mails? Check your spam folder. Today the server was down and they had it up and running in less than 3 minutes. I think it's quite normal when a host switches to a new data center that there are some issues. Slhost however made sure they solve them quickly and correctly. I've been with them for over 2 1/2 year on a VPS, I guess that shoudl give you some indication how I think about them. Previous hosts didn't last longer than 6-12 months... I just hope I don't get more issues over the next few days, because then my opinion could easily change.

Posted by JDonner, 07-23-2008, 02:50 PM
And my opinion is slowly changing...apache down again, slow, disconnects, raw log shows always the same ip address (can't check for uniuq IP address), WHM down, cpanel slow, phpadmin even worse, takes minutes to open, root password not accepted, etc....this is a disaster!

The www.slhost.com site seems to be up and running in the new datacenter with new IP's. It seems they moved to New York instead of staying in Texas (Colo4dallas). http://iptools.com/dnstools.php?tool....com&submit=Go Moves aren't fun for customers nor the provider to say the least. -Jay

You're right. I'm happy to inform that all outstanding issues have been solved in the minimal amount of time, another thumbs up for Slhost. I guess I'm not used to having so many issues with them at the same time hehe, I forgive them...it's migration, lots of potential problems.

Posted by sheba59, 07-23-2008, 07:10 PM
Interesting, slhost’s domain is now registered to someone in Rochester. Just happened to be the same address to their new location. If 1+1 = 2 then they sold their company obviously………………

Posted by JDonner, 07-23-2008, 08:43 PM
Sorry, but that's a very premature assumption hehe

Posted by sheba59, 07-23-2008, 08:52 PM
If I am correct and they didn’t tell anyone that is unprofessional. Going from quality to cogent bandwidth is quite a downgrade tia

Posted by JDonner, 07-23-2008, 09:07 PM
Stop making those foolish assumptions and run ahead of things. You don't label companies as "unprofessional" if certain things might have happened, for the same reason you wouldn't tell a kid next door that he's a bad kid once you might discover that he broke your window...sigh Last edited by JDonner; 07-23-2008 at 09:10 PM.

Umm, how is that 'foolish'? It is actually pretty obvious that there has been some type of change in management, being that they were based in Dallas for a number of years, and now their address is the same as the company they are hosting with on their domain. I would of suspected the same.

I was with them for over 2 years, and just canceled my account with them last week.. sick of the load on the Node...and them saying there is nothing wrong..service was excellent, but over the last 3 months it was shocking...overloaded servers..I am glad I jumped out

Posted by tharani, 08-03-2008, 09:16 AM
seems true. logicalsolutions.net/PressReleases/Default.aspx?ID=106 whois info is same as acquiring company. Tharani

I'm in the same boat, my server is overloaded like hell, whether it's Apache, MySQL, FTP, it all drags on like a snail, I keep sending tickets and they keep "fine-tuning" the system, but nothing has really improved the situation and this has almost beeen going on for 4 weeks. I don't blame the technicians, they are and always haven been hard working capable guys, instead I blame the company; they are severly overselling right now. Like you, I've also been with them for over 2 1/2 years and it makes you wonder what the hell they're doing if they're getting rid of all their long-time customers, because I don't plan to stay much longer either.

I just posted this reply on a thread in the VPS forum. But since then, found out that there's every indication that SL Host has been sold. I guess that explains it ALL...

Posted by rotis, 08-24-2008, 12:19 PM
That really makes sense. My server was doin all kids of crazy stuff and their fix was to disable my domains in cpanel! I could not believe it. I just paid for 6 months of hosting but I am going to be cruising for a new host as well.

Posted by JDonner, 08-24-2008, 09:25 PM
Just an update concerning the issues with Slhost I mentioned earlier; Slhost has worked hard to solve them and everything turned back to normal again. So they might have been sold, but they're still offering excellent support. I've been with them for almost 3 years and they continue to reply in a matter of minutes and the technicians are very capable.

I have 8VPS with SLHOST. Currelty i have some problems because afhter transfer the Fantastico license is not longer valide. So users who use webmail cannot longer login and check e-mails. (this persist since 4 days now) I already sent dif. tickets for this issue but nothing has ben solved. Another VPS had high load (50->) so i had reboot.... however it is down since more than 3 hours....they say it's up and running but for me and all customers on that vPS it is down. Also they made some missatch for root password and i am not able to login to VPS's eve if i use the root provided. In generally, as i have a lot of customers (more than 100) pointing there domain to a static IP, this changes of IP adresses will give a lot of problems... That say, i am not sure if i will renewall my VPS if problems persists as it will hurt my business...

Posted by JDonner, 09-01-2008, 11:54 AM
Fantastico license not valid and they still haven't fixed it after 4 days? I have been with them for almost 3 years and while they did have some issues during the move to the new data center (which can be expected) license issues have always been solved in less than 30-60 minutes. For some reason I get the sense that you're one of those unreasonable customers who prefers yelling and name calling and then wonders why things don't get solved...sigh

Posted by reamark, 09-01-2008, 06:05 PM
yes it is still not solved and my customers has no access to webmail. Also due mismatching with root i am not able to access the VPS and change Cpanel to X theme. (the root pw they sent does not work. I have already sent 3 mails and still no replay. So you think i should stay here and wait looking how my customer going to change hosting service?? I am in hosting business since 99 no i am not a newbie. I know that changing servers etc. can give some troubles but waiting for several days is very bad for those as well as my hosting service. Hope they will be able to fix this issue withing the next few hours. ------------------------ Invalid license Main IP Address: 67.2XX.XX.XX CPanel Version: 11.23.4-STABLE_26138 RVskin Version: Note: Server administrator can run perl /root/rvadmin/convert_theme.pl to switch users to other skin such as X skin while waiting for the resolution.

And I repeat again; I have been almost 3 years with these guys and yes, sometimes they do have issues (which host doesn't) but I'm not lying when I tell you that they have NEVER ignored any E-mail, let alone 3. One can say a lot of about Slhost, but I stand 100% behind their support; it's fast (on average I get a reply in less than 10 min!) and they have always been very polite. I'm pretty sure you're not telling us the whole story about either now or the past... Mmm, explain to me why you are putting over a hundred customers on 8 VPS instead of 1 or 2 dedicated servers…financially it doesn't make any sense, let alone having to manage 8 servers when you could have been managing one...sigh Last edited by JDonner; 09-01-2008 at 11:14 PM.

i can confirm, usually SLHost support is very fast and always replay... but not this time I am using VPS because: - they are managed - if some domain have problems they will not affect ALL your clients (if you host all on same server)

Posted by rotis, 09-09-2008, 10:06 AM
My service has been horrible since the move. My VPS is constantly going down. On top of that there has been various connection errors. Since the move I have gotten a mess of this error: I wish i had not just renewed my service

Posted by reamark, 09-09-2008, 02:25 PM
I have the same problem... Today i found 3 VPS has ben rebooted without any notice. PROBLEM: ALL 3 VPS are hanging in "Mounted" for several hours.... This is very bad for my business...

Posted by KnownHost, 09-09-2008, 02:31 PM
Were they all rebooted at the same time do you know? -Jay

Posted by Marchello, 09-09-2008, 05:07 PM
All this is crazy... I got Level 3-VPS and got restart 4, 5 or 8 times a day the server down... They only wait some hours and send a ticket "It's fixed" but actually it will be down soon.... I've just renewed and can't wait too much, I'm losing clients... What you going to do? Migrate or wait?

Posted by rotis, 09-09-2008, 05:30 PM
I am exploring a new host. I sent an email asking for a refund for my unused amount. don't know how much good that will do.

Posted by Marchello, 09-09-2008, 05:46 PM
keep us informed, please

Posted by rotis, 09-09-2008, 05:49 PM
I find it irritating that they keep merging these threads. Here is the last message I got. Not sure what they call ASAP but this is the second time I got this excuse in 2 days. I am still down.

Posted by reamark, 09-12-2008, 11:18 AM
seems there was an updat on the main node and afhter they reboot some VPS hangs.... Curently i have some mail problems with one VPS as e-mails doents coming through anymore.... This is very bad....

Posted by reamark, 09-19-2008, 07:10 PM
here we are again... i have 1 VPS that has a lot of problems. Cpanel/whm/imap/pop3 fails every 60-90 minutes and do not restart. They say its a problem of increasing the CPU allocation and tehy will do it "today"... will see if it's is as they say... otherwhile it's really time to move... (btw: why they say we will do it today... and not simple DOI IT!?? This all has no sense to me...)
