WhirlHost Alpha Server Outage

Posted by Joshua [WhirlHost], 01-20-2009, 02:29 AM
Hello all, The main WhirlHost Server, Alpha is currently down. Most shared and reseller clients sites will be unaccessible. All VPS clients remain intact. We apologise for the inconvenience caused, and we hope to be back online shortly. Thanks, Joshua Walker WhirlHost Administration

We are trying our best to work with the datacenter during this time, which has proven challenging, and I cannot be more sorry to our Alpha server clients about this mess. Compensation can be given upon request for the period of the downtime once we are running again. I am personally trying my very best, and am certainly not sitting back doing nothing. I would also like to point out again that VPS clients have not been affected. You can reach us currently at whirlhost@gmail.com. Thank you for your co-operation during this time.

Here's the current situation... It is looking that somehow the server has been hacked, the hackers have also changed the root password, the system is not responding to any LiveCDs etc, so this is the path... - A new, fresh drive will be installed in the server and the current drive set as a secondary drive - We will mount the secondary drive and take a look to see what has happened, looking specifically at access logs and data corruption. - Depending on the severity of the attack 2 things could happen, one is that we will transfer the data over to the primary drive if nothing is corrupt, or, we restore the offsite backups of the cPanel accounts that we have. We will continue to keep you updated here, and you can email us at whirlhost@gmail.com for any enquiries you may have. Thank you for your co-operation and I do apologize, we understand this is stressful and is costing you, but we are trying the best we can.
