WholesaleInternet?

Seems they are down... anyone else noticing this? All companies that I know of who utilize WII are also down (Virpus, Joe's, etc etc)

Posted by alltimed, 01-21-2009, 06:32 PM
It's been a few months since their last downtime, I guess it is to be expected.

Posted by DigitalLinx, 01-21-2009, 06:32 PM
Yeah, my servers went offline couple of minutes ago.

Yeah, my servers went offline couple of minutes ago. Hopefully things come back up soon... Was just working on a newly provisioned server getting it all setup and poof, there it went!

Can confirm from Auckland

Greetings, Down here as well - Mississauga, Canada. Antony

Let's hope everything gets back up quickly.

Down here as well. Anyone know what exactly is going on? Hopefully, someone from the company can give us an update here.

Yesterdays Reason: Hello, We are currently experiencing issues with the ovz-gus server. We have rebooted the machine and it should be up momentarily. ovz-gus is a massive IBM machine, that requires redundant power supplies at all times. For whatever reason, we receive an output saying that there is no redundancy. After re-seating the cables, the node is fine. This is occuring with all of our IBM machines, and we are gathering plans to move customers off these nodes and have IBM to come in and fix the issue. We thank you for your patience to those effected and apologize for any inconveniences caused. Your service should be restored shortly. Virpus Networks, Inc. -- Todays: Dear * *(none), Our upstream provider appears to be down at the moment. We're investigating the issue further and will update you as soon as one becomes available. Thank you, Virpus Networks, Inc I'm starting to think I might take up on my 14 day money back offer. Been with them for two days each day I have seen issues after I paid... Not a happy camper.

I believe they are updating the BGP routes to make some of the network use Cogent instead of RR. It would appear that something went wrong, since it was not an instant and automatic switch. Hoping it'll be back up ASAP, going on an hour now...

Posted by alltimed, 01-21-2009, 07:10 PM
Maybe some day they will have an actual announcement when doing network changes.

Posted by Rageki-John, 01-21-2009, 07:14 PM
Maybe some day they will have an actual announcement when doing network changes. Agreed. If they ever want to fix anything, they should notify us first so we can expect some downtime.

Posted by HostFX-UK, 01-21-2009, 07:19 PM
Agreed. I would not be surprised if they lost a majority of their customers for this downtime.

Hoping it'll be back up ASAP, going on an hour now... Makes sense, since the routes suddenly disappeared from the routing table. Scary stuff

We've now been down for 1 hour (for my server anyway) with no updates. That doesn't make me very happy. They should at least take 30 seconds to update their customers. -Joe

It usually takes someone calling them, them actually answering the phone and giving an explanation and that person relaying the information here.

Unfortunately, I don't have the emergency phone number. I believe it was on their site. Could anyone else here give them a call and see what's up.

Posted by yyCC, 01-21-2009, 07:39 PM
yes both of my servers are down.

Posted by DigitalLinx, 01-21-2009, 07:44 PM
They lost connection with RR, they're trying to get the secondary provider online now. No ETA though

Posted by HostFX-UK, 01-21-2009, 07:48 PM
Taking more than enough time to fix this problem. Hoping it is up very shortly.

Posted by nmatese, 01-21-2009, 08:07 PM
Anyone have any updates or a confirmed response as to why they're down?

Posted by alltimed, 01-21-2009, 08:10 PM
I would think the redundancy would be a little more time effective.

Posted by csgo, 01-21-2009, 08:14 PM
I would think the redundancy would be a little more time effective. I'm fairly certain that they advertised redundant connections. If it turns out that they're really single sourced I'll be leaving them as soon as I can find an alternative provider (maybe sooner if they're gone). The whole idea of leaving customers in the dark is bad enough. There's no reason not to keep customers updated. -Joe

If it turns out that they're really single sourced I'll be leaving them as soon as I can find an alternative provider (maybe sooner if they're gone). They *do* advertise redundant connections, and they *do* have them... sort of kind of not really. It's been discussed in previous outage threads, but basically they seem to rely on one provider - one link - for their "last mile", so to speak. One link, one point of failure... which seems to fail quite often, alas.

Anyone have any updates or a confirmed response as to why they're down? I posted the emails I got from them in Post #12 on this thread (page #1). Cheers

I posted the emails I got from them in Post #12 on this thread (page #1). Cheers It's not Virpus' fault, this is an issue with WII. Virpus is hosted at WII, so they are down as well as everything hosted by WII.

I posted the emails I got from them in Post #12 on this thread (page #1). Cheers How did you get those messages? My request to support@wholesaleinternet.com was bounced: Domain 'wholesaleinternet.com' does not exist. -Joe

I just hope you have all a remote backup in case your drives failed during reboot. But there is no confirmation yet if it is a power failure or a network upgrade right? If so, it is best to contact them directly to confirm.

Posted by SC-Daniel, 01-21-2009, 08:30 PM
The emails he posted were from Virpus, not WII

Posted by njaguar, 01-21-2009, 08:33 PM
My rack is back up

Posted by VN-Ken, 01-21-2009, 08:34 PM
WII appears to be coming online now.

Posted by csgo, 01-21-2009, 08:34 PM
My server just came back online. One minute shy of 2 hours. Best of luck to others! -Joe

Posted by Ankheg, 01-21-2009, 08:37 PM
But there is no confirmation yet if it is a power failure or a network upgrade right? If so, it is best to contact them directly to confirm. It's a network outage - servers at both of their datacenters are affected. We Wholesale Internet customers tend, after a while, to get good at remotely-diagnosing the not-infrequent downtimes... Power outages these days are (knock on wood!) relatively rare, and I've never had one affect servers in both datacenters. Network outages, on the other hand...

Posted by HostFX-UK, 01-21-2009, 08:37 PM
I am back up

Posted by nmatese, 01-21-2009, 08:47 PM
Joe's appears to still be down atleast my box.

Posted by DigitalLinx, 01-21-2009, 09:16 PM
Joe's data center is up for me.

Posted by davidb2762, 01-21-2009, 09:34 PM
How did you get those messages? My request to support@wholesaleinternet.com was bounced: Domain 'wholesaleinternet.com' does not exist. -Joe As said by others it was from another provider using the same DC. My server is back up too. Lets hope there are no further network issues of this size.

Is anyone else experiencing extremely slow upload speeds since the move to cogent?

Posted by SC-Daniel, 01-22-2009, 06:35 PM
Is anyone else experiencing extremely slow upload speeds since the move to cogent? I'm with Joe's and they utilize WII transit... So far I have not noticed anything.

Posted by nmatese, 01-22-2009, 07:50 PM
I am also with Joes, and my upload speed is crawling

Posted by SC-Daniel, 01-22-2009, 09:09 PM
My uploads seem to be performing fine... May want to put a ticket into Joe's and see what is going on.

Are the routing issues still persisting for any of you guys ?

Posted by DigitalLinx, 01-24-2009, 01:08 AM
I didn't notice any routing issues after the switch to cogent, steady sailing.

Posted by pixeldawn, 01-25-2009, 12:10 AM
Well, so basically they've just replaced RR with Cogent, am I correct ?
