The Planets DNS servers down due to DDoS

Posted by wermlandsdata, 05-04-2009, 04:29 PM
Just to let you all know that The Planet Internet Services is once again under a DDoS attack making their DNS servers unavailable. If you are a customer and need to get to Orbit you might need to add it to your hosts file. The last attack was discussed under forumId 852875 (sorry I can't link to it since I'm a new user) and have the information you need to add to the hosts file. Your server(s) should still be accesible through their IP.

Just change your server's resolvers to OpenDNS and host your own NS on ur server http://www.opendns.com/ OpenDNS Ip's 208.67.222.222 208.67.220.220

A client of mine recently experienced an issue in which an individual registered the IP's of his servers with OpenDNS. The individual set blocks on absolutely everything, resulting in DNS resolution issues for my client. While this is probably a rare occurrence, I wouldn't trust my own dedicated servers with those DNS servers. I would assume the issue could have been avoided by registering an OpenDNS account with the IP's, but I don't think many people do this.
