HiVeloCity Network problems

Posted by HostingFields, 05-30-2009, 05:02 AM
Anyone else affected ? Just contacted their support ... Mark: We are having some temporary network issues going on at our datacenter. We are currently experiencing network problems, the details of which I do not have at the moment. Our network engineers are working on the issue now. Once I have more information I will make sure we post information on our network status forum. My server is unreachable 2nd time in past 12hours or so ... s-f-r-j

Ditto. I just put in a support ticket, and then decided to check here to see if anyone was having similar problems. Mine was unreachable for about 15 minutes yesterday around 1:15 central time. And has been been unreachable for about the last 30 minutes.

Wonder if this is why its taking them so long to provision my server.. not the kind of thing i want to hear after spending almost $300 with them!

No idea ... Maybe not all HVC is affected with this ... No clue, ask them ... Not happy about this as well ... It is almost 6 am here, can't sleep because of this ... s-f-r-j

In the six months I have been with them, I believe this was the second time there has been a network disruption. I can't remember what the cause was last time. One the one hand a couple times in six months isn't great, on the other hand in the same timeframe I have heard about The Planet DC's being down multiple times.

Thats true ... they were down + Softlayer as well ... This kind of stuff happens, but... us as customer, of course we don't like this .. Wondering what is taking them so long to fix this now ... Yesterday it was quicker .. s-f-r-j

Yea, I got a page a little before 4am and it's closing in on 5am as I wait for a resolution.

Assuming they weren't concidental and unrelated (yesterday and today), hopefully they are putting a more complete fix in place. A traceroute will make it to trans3.hivelocity.net [69.46.31.106] before timing out, and my server is typically the next hop after that, so this appears to be an internal network issu.

its up now ..

Posted by bdnero, 05-30-2009, 05:51 AM
It should be "Providers and Network Outages and Updates" forum. BTW, my one also up now after second downtime experience in last 24 hours.

Posted by tnedator, 05-30-2009, 06:17 AM
I typically check both forums, because these posts tend to pop up in both or either/or. Anyway, I'm back up as well. Downtime was about 1 hour. Yesterday afternoon it was down for between 10-15 minutes.

Posted by tnedator, 05-30-2009, 06:48 AM
Down again as of about 15 minutes ago.

Getting frustrated. Same here.

Mine just got provisioned.. but its down.. I think "Sarah" is a bot.. i got exactly the same response as the above poster did to my question.

And back up, about 20 minutes this time. I had just gone back to sleep when I got the latest "server down page". Since these are not related to my server and out of my control, I have muted my cell phone so I can get a couple hours sleep. Hopefully, that was the last outage.

Hey Everyone. We had one of our network layer distrobution switches crash on us last night...twice. We only have about 8 racks on this switch so only a small portion of the network was affected. Unfortunately, the 8 racks that were affected are mostly new servers that have been online for a short period of time. So to all of our new customers that had an issue, I am very sorry for the inconvenience. We resolved early this morning and no one should face any further problems. Should this switch happen to crash again we have a redundant switch ready to go.

Hey Guys, it is back up now.

Posted by hivelocitygm, 06-03-2009, 03:47 PM
You can find more information about the issue here- http://forums.hivelocity.net/network...html#post13455 Sorry again for the problem to those 8 racks that were affected. As stated on the forum link above, we will be phasing out the problematic switch tonight.

Since this problem came up on 30th first (it was more than 50 minutes downtime and NOT 10 mins as they like to mention), I have been experiencing network troubles with slow speed and packet loss. Here's a ping result from server to google: --- google.com ping statistics --- 38 packets transmitted, 16 received, 57% packet loss, time 37010ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 16.357/17.472/20.228/1.047 ms Anyone else experiencing a similar issue?

Posted by tnedator, 06-08-2009, 08:57 AM
Ok, while it could be a network problem, it could also be a firewall thing with google. When I ping google, I also get high packet loss: --- google.com ping statistics --- 130 packets transmitted, 28 received, 78% packet loss, time 129045ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 16.462/17.932/19.524/0.898 ms However, when I ping Yahoo, I get no packet loss: --- yahoo.com ping statistics --- 144 packets transmitted, 144 received, 0% packet loss, time 143053ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 29.906/30.748/33.562/0.592 ms This is to a VPS that I have located in Dallas (pinging from my HiVelocity server to the Dallas VPS): --- Dallas VPS ping statistics --- 58 packets transmitted, 58 received, 0% packet loss, time 57021ms rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 25.180/25.803/26.779/0.338 ms So, while I can't say with 100% certainty that there is no problem, I can say I have not detected any problem with my server since they replaced the switch and pings to sites other than Google are working fine.
