WiredTree Network Maintenance

Posted by HostingFields, 08-08-2009, 02:43 AM
Hello, Anyone having problem accessing their server? I know that WiredTree posted information regarding this Maintenance, but i am unable to reach my server already 2 times for more then 10-20 minutes. " Summary of Maintenance: The purpose of this work is to perform fail over testing in our Chicago, IL data center. This testing is to ensure that all systems continue to stay running. Best practice and procedures will be employed throughout the maintenance and we would like to ensure that our clients are aware of the activity. During this maintenance a number of network engineers will be on site. Customer Impact: During this maintenance window, there may be one or more brief interruptions while network traffic is rerouted across our providers and other network equipment. These interruptions should last less than one minute each. Any interruptions lasting longer than one minute will be addressed immediately by the on site network engineers. If you have any questions or concerns about this maintenance notification, please open a ticket with WiredTree support in Grove or contact us by phone at (Toll-Free: 866-523-8733, Local: +1 312-447-0510). We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause. Thank You, WiredTree Support " They say interruptions should be less then one minute, far away from that, eh? Thanks, s-f-r-j

Yeah mine is down also, same with the WiredTree site: http://downforeveryoneorjustme.com/wiredtree.com

Posted by HostingFields, 08-08-2009, 02:46 AM
I am able to open grove at this moment, but my server is still not reachable.

Posted by zimmerwham, 08-08-2009, 02:52 AM
yea my VPS is down... I hope theyll be back sooner

Posted by HostingFields, 08-08-2009, 02:54 AM
I am down already for 30 + minutes.

Posted by 1boss1, 08-08-2009, 02:55 AM
Seems like routing problems, i'm in Australia and i can't get to Wiredtree or my server and no ping. The downforeveryone site has been switching between up/down for about 20 minutes for Wiredtree but constantly down for my servers.

Posted by IGXHost, 08-08-2009, 03:00 AM
This maintenance was announced by them on August 4th. Unfortunately we have a few servers with them that are hosted with them, including our main website. They said that all clients will be experiencing short outages throughout the 6 hour maintenance. Their main website and Grove is going up and down as well.

Posted by HostingFields, 08-08-2009, 03:04 AM
From some locations i am able to reach the server, from some not. From US\Canada i am, from Europe i am not able to ping it.

Posted by reloaded, 08-08-2009, 03:04 AM
WiredTree is doing failover testing today, and warned of outages of up to a minute at a time... my servers (5 of them) and the wiredtree.com website itself have been down for over an hour. I can't reach them by telephone (dialling from outside the USA). Does anyone have news? Has anyone spoken to them?

Posted by hD-Scott, 08-08-2009, 03:05 AM
Yes, but their announcement said no more than a minute or two. The first outage we experience was 10 minutes and now it's 30 minutes and counting! And you can't get through to the phone number either.

Posted by chatbox, 08-08-2009, 03:06 AM
It has been down for me too for sometime now. I was able to open grove but now it seems its also inaccessible . Emailed wiredtree but yet to receive a response !

Posted by HostingFields, 08-08-2009, 03:06 AM
I agree, i am not happy about this as well. I opened a ticket with them, but no response as well. I never tried calling them, but, as you said probably the line is "busy". We are far away from one minute downtime..

Posted by IGXHost, 08-08-2009, 03:07 AM
Yes that is true. I expected minimal interference from this maintenance. I am also experiencing outages much longer than 1-2 minutes long. Well, 3 hours to go.

Posted by Btcc22, 08-08-2009, 03:07 AM
Guess something went wrong. Has been down with no uptime for 20+ minutes. Not the only interruption with their network I've experienced recently.

Posted by chatbox, 08-08-2009, 03:09 AM
My VPS is up ! Well finally ! Just happened now..

Posted by HostingFields, 08-08-2009, 03:09 AM
Well, i hope we won't be down for full 3 hours. Most of my visitors are from Europe, and i am already getting complains about this. Not good

Posted by HostingFields, 08-08-2009, 03:10 AM
Check if its reachable from all parts of the world. I am getting reply from US\CANADA, but not EUROPE.

Posted by IGXHost, 08-08-2009, 03:10 AM
The most we've done to try and contact them was to submit a ticket. I think this wasn't exactly expected as they stated that there will be short 1-2 minute long outages. Anyway, I'm pretty sure they're way overloaded with the number of requests right now. They did announce this 4 days ahead of the actual event and they said it will last approximately 6 hours only. Hopefully everything will go back to normal soon.

Posted by SSHocker, 08-08-2009, 03:12 AM
Yeah, my WiredTree VPS is down at the moment, those clients are running on failover VPS at the moment. 43 minutes downtime at the time of this post Last edited by SSHocker; 08-08-2009 at 03:17 AM.

Posted by IGXHost, 08-08-2009, 03:12 AM
It won't be reachable from all parts of the world. It will be going up and down for a while for different parts of the world at a time. They stated that the maintenance will be completed by 6am EST (for me, at least) I believe. Hah, this has kept me up again.

Posted by minipro, 08-08-2009, 03:13 AM
This is what I got from a tech on phone ... "Is it taking longer than expected. There is no ETA, but could be about 30 to 60 mins" I can't access my server. I can't access grove. I can't access wiredtree.com UPDATE: I can open wiredtree.com I can access grove

Posted by hD-Scott, 08-08-2009, 03:15 AM
Yes, but they also said it would not be down for more than a minute or two and now I'm also up because my server has been down for nearly an hour and it's only 2am Central Time and this could go on for four more hours!!!

Posted by HostingFields, 08-08-2009, 03:15 AM
Yep, very, very bad, did not expect this, 1-2 minutes would be okay, but this ... damn :| Attached Images 1.png (105.1 KB, 43 views)

Posted by IGXHost, 08-08-2009, 03:15 AM
Judging from that response, I guess even they didn't expect that it would cause this much interference.

Posted by IndiaNets, 08-08-2009, 03:19 AM
This is the starting of my second month with them with 2 VPS's. Our main site with the billing system is down now.. never has such big outages with previous providers. I hope they will be back online soon. EDIT : My VPS's are back online with their main site. Approx 34 minutes downtime for me.

Posted by Holfy, 08-08-2009, 03:19 AM
Well I'm in Australia and I don't have access to anything on my server. I also know someone with a server on WT and their accounts are down too. Their main site is up though as that is hosted with someone else. The main WT site is down too for me. Well this should be fun to help me promote my new hosting services that DID until now have 100% uptime Update (somehwat 30 seconds after this post...) Everything is working again... Is that like lighting a cigarette when waiting for the bus? Just as you spark it the bus comes!

Posted by hD-Scott, 08-08-2009, 03:20 AM
And with WT saying there is no ETA, though could go on your the remainder of the maintenance window which is just over 3.5 hours left.

Posted by 1boss1, 08-08-2009, 03:20 AM
Houston we have liftoff, i'm able to load my sites.

Posted by HostingFields, 08-08-2009, 03:21 AM
I feel you. Well, Wiredtree used to be good provider to me until this, this is making me unhappy now to be honest. Funny thing is that they say that we can call them, or open up a ticket (which i did, long time ago) without response, means .. something is really f*up?

Posted by IGXHost, 08-08-2009, 03:22 AM
My sites also seem to be up and running as of this moment. I managed to receive a response for my ticket: "We are performing some network maintenance at the data center and are expecting everything to go back to normal within 10-15 minutes." I honestly think WiredTree is still a great provider. They did announce this maintenance 4 days prior to the event anyway. I'm sure they're working very hard to get things back on track as we're posting in this thread.

Posted by SSHocker, 08-08-2009, 03:23 AM
The network maintenance notice states it will be complete by 6am CST. If you have redundancy inplace, you've got nothing to sweat about.

Posted by zimmerwham, 08-08-2009, 03:24 AM
ok my website is back online.. Im happy now..

Posted by IGXHost, 08-08-2009, 03:24 AM

Hi SSHocker Could you please explain what redundancy you have in place? Did WiredTree set it up for you?

Posted by hD-Scott, 08-08-2009, 03:25 AM
I know crap can happen during maintenance, but they should update us with info. A blanket email, an update on the grove, or something. Communication during these situations is extremely helpful and save a lot of time in the long run dealing with phone calls and tickets.

Posted by HostingFields, 08-08-2009, 03:26 AM
Well, i think that too, but ... I agree.

Posted by IGXHost, 08-08-2009, 03:27 AM
Agreed, Scott. They did reply to my ticket promptly though, within 20 minutes. Perhaps they were just overloaded with the requests they had when the servers went down. Grove seems to be up and accessible now as well.

Posted by minipro, 08-08-2009, 03:28 AM
I too got the same reply.

Posted by SSHocker, 08-08-2009, 03:30 AM
This is how I setup Server 1 >> Server 2 >> Server 3 All my customers are on failover DNS. If Server1 goes down the traffic gets routed automatically to Server2 which I have with another provider in a geographically dispersed location The data from Server1 to Server2 is replicated hourly by rsync. and Server3 holds .gz backups daily weekly and monthly. I set that up myself Last edited by SSHocker; 08-08-2009 at 03:35 AM.

Posted by HostingFields, 08-08-2009, 03:33 AM
Everything was okay for me for couple of minutes from different locations, now again it is not reachable.

Posted by hD-Scott, 08-08-2009, 03:33 AM
I've been waiting for nearly 40 minutes for my ticket to be responded to. I just got the confirmation that it was received a few minutes ago and it was entered in duplicated. So there are routing issues with the grove and their email system. But if they had updated the grove, then we wouldn't be submitting tickets. If they had turned their phone on to an "all call" message stating that we know there are issues and we're working on them and to press 1 if your issue is NOT this, they would also save a lot of wasted manpower. Just some suggestions that have worked for us in the past.

Posted by thelonepixel, 08-08-2009, 03:39 AM
While we did experience about a 45-60 seconds of downtime this morning. Wiredtree did announce this on Aug 4th, giving you plenty of time to notify all of your clients that you would be performing server maintenance during the specified timeframe Now if they didn't announce this then it would be a big deal.

Posted by HostingFields, 08-08-2009, 03:42 AM
" These interruptions should last less than one minute each. Any interruptions lasting longer than one minute will be addressed immediately by the on site network engineers. " As i mentioned i was down for more then 30 minutes or so, that is not nice. If it was couple of time, couple of minuets i wouldn't mind.

Posted by Holfy, 08-08-2009, 03:42 AM
I believe (apart from this) WT are a fantastic host. It just took a little longer than expected, that and the fact that their site was down. I won't be moving and I'm not "Peeved" off. I just needed to quickly change my pants when everything "Went Down" :p It's all up again and fortunatly for me, no one seemed to notice I don't need to tie them up with "What is happening/happened" ticket as that then stops them from "Fixing" any problems because they need to reply.

Posted by HostingFields, 08-08-2009, 03:43 AM
Good stuff. I wish it was like that for me

Posted by Holfy, 08-08-2009, 03:45 AM
It wasn't that way when I was with my last host. I had a VPS with a well known and well trusted service.. Everything went down for 18+ hours. THAT was not fun explaining to customers. That's why I'm with WT now and using a Dedi not a VPS.

Just got response from them (ticket) after about an hour. I we are aware of the intermittent issues with connectivity as part of the scheduled network maintenance and we are working to resolve them as soon as possible. You should see connectivity restored soon. I am sorry for any inconvenience that our scheduled maintenance may have caused you.

LAWL at the well worded "We told you there was going to be maintenance!.. We never said how long!"

Posted by HostingFields, 08-08-2009, 03:52 AM
You may check if your server is reachable from different locations here: http://host-tracker.com Mine is still not, from many.

Posted by thelonepixel, 08-08-2009, 03:54 AM
I have to say that WT is pretty responsive, I hope those who are experiencing issues are back up soon! Be sure to sumit a ticket if you are experience longer then expected downtimes. I am also not sure if this matter but I am on a Hybrid server and only experienced 30-60 seconds of down time at around 2am. I also wanted to share that they took care of my request for a lightspeed install during their "scheduled maintenance time". I submitted the request at 1 AM EST and it was installed and complete at 1:40AM EST, with zero downtime in between. Now that is awesome support!

Posted by HostingFields, 08-08-2009, 03:56 AM
Maybe different people do network, different people do support (administration of servers etc) ? Wiredtree does have very good support, no doubt about that. I just hope this network problem is fixed soon.

Posted by Holfy, 08-08-2009, 04:16 AM
WT have the best support for sure. Their responses to problems are generally handled ASAP if not referred to someone who can handle it better. I had trouble with specific Gameserver issues and Loren helped me for two days to iron them out. I guess it was a way for him to learn something that no one else may ever use, but if they do at least he knows how to handle it.. A lot of hosts will tell you "GS are not our issue as they are Third Party".. They are right too. WT doesn't need to help. But they do. I don't think that I have had to contact them about server admin though so I can't comment on that side of support. But as I said, if it is taking some time to respond, its because the people responding are busy finding a solution to the problem. PM me your site name so I can see if it is online in Australia.

Thank you -- I think I need to look into something like that myself.

Posted by 1boss1, 08-08-2009, 05:04 AM
I'm not fussed, it wasn't that long and this sort of thing is rare with Wiredtree plus their support tickets are more like instant messages than tickets. But i'm wondering after this if WT should get a WiredTreeStatus.com or similar domain at a different host, then throw Wordpress on it for both maintenance announcements and status updates. Edit: Ok i just looked, they have a Twitter page - http://twitter.com/WiredTree I'm going to stick that in my RSS reader.

Posted by Holfy, 08-08-2009, 07:41 AM
I take it SJ has his back in order? No more responses :p

Posted by Alex, 08-08-2009, 09:59 AM
* Moved to Provider and Network Outages == I slept right through the maintenance. But, as a WT client for a little over a year now, this is the first time I have ever experienced downtime, and it was in the middle of the night (well, at least for me and most of my clients), so no big deal. Everybody has blips, looks like it's up now, and that's all that really matters. Alex

my vps at wiredtree down for more than 11 hours right now... my clients complaining

Posted by HostingFields, 08-08-2009, 12:30 PM
Did you contact them?

Posted by swalian, 08-08-2009, 02:01 PM
Yes, but my server still not online.... I also ask estimate time one hour ago and only got this answer: "Your server should be up soon. What I can do is notify you as soon as it comes back online. The nature of a disk check makes it difficult to estimate the amount of time it will finish but I can tell you that it is moving along quickly." So, it can be one hour, 24 hours or 48 hours... who knows? I only can wait my vps online... nothing else I can do....

Posted by swalian, 08-08-2009, 09:48 PM
My vps is online now...

Posted by RSkeens, 08-09-2009, 07:02 AM
My question is why is there a filesystem check when they were testing the network? Where you told about this maintenance from them? They are correct that it can take a long time, though. Glad to see you're back online
