Galayvisions down

Posted by jstand1, 07-28-2010, 01:37 PM
GalaxyVisions has been down for 2 hours and 45 minutes now- their website is up, however.

Posted by Hengis, 07-28-2010, 03:06 PM
They have a status update on the homepage now...finally....

Posted by techclan, 07-28-2010, 08:27 PM
Galaxy Visions was down for many hours again today, and their own website was unreachable. Calling their support would get a "Voicemail is full now" and as usual support tickets are not responded to during outages. Same thing happened on July 7th and today 3 weeks later my support ticket is still open with no response. On their website they talk about how redundant they are and how "Up time matters" but it is nothing but a bunch of BS. I'm starting to lose complete faith in this company. At least they should have the decency to respond to their customers or place a system status on their website, but I guess they don't want potential customers to learn the truth about their awful data center and support. It's time for me to find a new dedicated or VPS provider and get rid of galaxyvisions.com

Posted by kidmuto, 07-29-2010, 11:16 AM
i agree - i've completely lost hope in them. they are down again today and it's the fourth or fifth time this month. when i try to call tech support it goes straight to voicemail - as you mentioned. i've had enough of hearing them blame con-edison for their outages. i'd be surprised if most of their customers don't start moving elsewhere sometime soon.. any recommendations??

Posted by techclan, 07-29-2010, 11:22 AM
They are down again right now. Unbelievable.

Posted by ControlVM, 07-29-2010, 11:22 AM
Make sure you have backed up all your data. If you not satisfy with them, start to move on with new provider. Perhaps, give them more time to see what is the issue.

Posted by kidmuto, 07-29-2010, 11:25 AM
techlan, i know. they are bringing tears to my eyes and i can't get a hold of anyone there! i have a colo server there - after one of their power outages earlier this month i spent 2 full days cleaning up corruption on the data and rebuilding the server due to filesystem errors. i've absolutely had it with them! CM - they have been compeltely down 5 times this month. i think that's giving them enough of a chance. time to move on.

Posted by hostgrazy, 07-29-2010, 12:55 PM
as what chhost and kidmuto said...move on, else you'll regret

Posted by techclan, 07-29-2010, 01:00 PM
Yes, the finally put up a status update on their website today for the first time after all these outages. Any suggestions for a good reliable provider for VPS and Dedicated?

Posted by kidmuto, 07-29-2010, 01:02 PM
yea, i saw that. they are still down though, although their website is up. i don't understand how the transformer exploded again! im going to start researching new providers (i'm a colo customer) - will definitely keep in touch and let you know if i find anything good. please do same for me

Posted by techclan, 07-29-2010, 01:53 PM
This is just outrages. They are still dead. Shouldn't a generator be ready for such situations and kick in when the transformer fails. Guess the truth is now coming out about their redundancy and the Bull Sh$$ they feed people when they sell their service....

Posted by jstand1, 07-29-2010, 02:04 PM
Unbelievable- so far today down more than 3 HOURS and 20 minutes so far. Time to switch hosts- terrible- I'm losing revenue minute by minute.

Posted by kidmuto, 07-29-2010, 02:09 PM
have you been able to get a hold of anyone there?

Posted by techclan, 07-29-2010, 02:11 PM
No, when you call their support it goes right in to a voicemail box that says full then it hangs up on you. I've opened several support tickets but nothing.

Posted by Michaelz, 07-29-2010, 02:23 PM
What are your requirements as to managed/unmanaged, budget, OS, control panel etc.?

Posted by techclan, 07-29-2010, 02:35 PM
I'm gathering that information right now. Attached Images GalaxyVisionsReview.gif (143.0 KB, 50 views)

Posted by kidmuto, 07-29-2010, 02:40 PM
ha i bet the generator runs out of gas.. or that when they fix the transformer they knock all servers out again to hook things back up

Posted by puder, 07-29-2010, 05:31 PM
This is killing me I've got a few hundred angry biz users who havnt had email since 10:47am today. This on top of yesterdays outage!!!!! WTF?!?!?

Posted by techclan, 07-29-2010, 05:38 PM
I know how you feel. I JUST CAN NOT BELIEVE these people. I have for sure lost 4 clients because of this. After calling their support line 20 times, some lady accidentally picked up and just hung up on me. They posted that a generator is being connected since 11:00Am on their site and everything is still dead. How long does it take to connect a generator? This is by far the worst experience I've had with a hosting company.

Posted by jstand1, 07-29-2010, 05:46 PM
Down over 7 hours and 3 minutes now

Posted by puder, 07-29-2010, 06:07 PM
It's stuff like this that reminds me why I hate my chosen vocation...

Posted by kidmuto, 07-29-2010, 06:32 PM
this is terrible. it's not just an email or two - our entire businesses are on the line (no pun intended). if the servers aren't up, none of us are making any money! you'd think the generator would be connected in advance, so that if a transformer blows, power would continue to be supplied interrupted..

Posted by daniel187, 07-29-2010, 06:32 PM
GALAXY VISIONS (CORRECT NAME!) IS DOWN AGAIN AND AGAIN. I JUST CAN NOT BELIEVE these people. I have for sure lost $$$ money because of this. how long does it take to connect a generator???? 8 hours, 9 hours, 10 hours site is down...

Posted by kidmuto, 07-29-2010, 06:36 PM
i'd get better uptime if i was hosting in my apartment!

Posted by techclan, 07-29-2010, 06:41 PM
THEY ARE NOTHING BUT A BUNCH FU$$ING LIARS AND ON TOP OF THAT THEY TREAT CUSTOMER WITH THE LEAST AMOUNT OF RESPECT. HOW CAN THEY CLAIM 100% UP TIME ON THE FRONT PAGE OF THEIR WEBSITE WHEN THEY DO NOT EVEN HAVE A BACKUP TRANSFORMER OR AT LEAST A BACKUP GENERATOR IN PLACE READY TO GO IN CASE OF SUCH EVENT.

Posted by kidmuto, 07-29-2010, 07:50 PM
their website has said they are installing a generator for hours now. when will my systems come back to life?!

Posted by puder, 07-29-2010, 08:07 PM
I'm pretty sure I'm about to loose my biggest customer over this crap. Thus will be the 5th DC I've used the years and i've found they are all good at first but go to **** after about a year or so after I move in. That includes a few highly rated and expensive DCs

Posted by puder, 07-29-2010, 08:09 PM
my office servers on biz class cable w/ static ip service and battery backups literally have had better uptime over the passed 6 months

Posted by techclan, 07-29-2010, 08:13 PM
Why can't they at least update people with the real status of what is going on?

Posted by techclan, 07-29-2010, 08:17 PM
Is anyone located in the area to stop by and find out what is going on ? Obviously they're not responding to emails nor answering the phones.

Posted by puder, 07-29-2010, 09:08 PM
They just posted an update and claim that things are almost fixed. I'm in NYC currently and they've got about half an hour before I flip the f out and get in a cab looking for a fight.

Posted by techclan, 07-29-2010, 09:31 PM
Now they are saying we're at the final stages, eleven hours later. Whatever happened to the generator ? Lets see how long their final stages will take now.... Pattern of BS, that's all it is. Just fu$king tell the truth and let people know you had no redundancy. You had no backup power source and all the crap you post on your website about greatness of your infrastructure is just to sell. Attached Images Galaxy Visions Web Hosting Review.gif (131.9 KB, 21 views)

Posted by kidmuto, 07-29-2010, 10:07 PM
exactly. they've been lying all along. SLA says generators and battery backups, which clearly they don't have. SLA says 99.99% uptime, which clearly they can't keep. i smell a class action lawsuit. has anyone actually made it over there? as they say their power is "almost fully restored" is there one customer that is back up yet???

Posted by techclan, 07-29-2010, 10:24 PM
It's more than just the service level problem. It's all the lies and misrepresentation. Attached is a screen shot taken right from their website about how they are completely covered in case of a power outage. Attached Images Galaxy Vision Power System.gif (14.6 KB, 32 views)

Posted by Shawn Brant, 07-29-2010, 10:35 PM
This is starting to get out of hand. As mentioned in the earlier posts they make it look like they have a completely redundant system but when they posted earlier today about installing a generator when they are already suppose to have several according to the site is a red flag. As soon as it's up my backing my stuff up and requested my server be shipped elsewhere. I've have over 25,000 page views a day (Google Analytics) and this is just killing my business.

Posted by jstand1, 07-29-2010, 10:37 PM
Mine is finally up- I'm not sure if I will stick with these guys- depends on what make-good they offer.

Posted by jstand1, 07-29-2010, 10:40 PM
One odd thing I've noticed is I'm getting a "WARNING: POSSIBLE DNS SPOOFING DETECTED!" message when I ssh into my dedicated server- seems like the server itself may have changed, or at least the NIC?

Posted by Shawn Brant, 07-29-2010, 10:46 PM
Well I am back online as well...but I was last night as well....

Posted by kidmuto, 07-29-2010, 10:49 PM
You guys are lucky. my systems (colo) are still down. There really is no "make-good" offer they can come up with anymore. Time to move my servers to a reliable, HONEST provider. Lord knows how many businesses these guys destroyed today.

Posted by techclan, 07-29-2010, 10:52 PM
I have already lost a few clients and trying to explain that all is down because the data center has lost power didn't go too well. Even the convenient store down the street has a backup generator for their freezers. Galaxy Visions is not to be trusted, I'm done and have already put in a call to my attorney.

Posted by thegodfather85, 07-29-2010, 10:55 PM
So I contacted Con Edison there were no power outages in the areas around their datacenters locations. I cant wait to see what their excuse is. On the plus side my servers are back online.

Posted by kidmuto, 07-29-2010, 11:04 PM
yeap, i am finally back online as well. this was the fifth (and worst!) power outage they've had in the past 30 days. glad someone had the thought to call con-ed and see if there were any outages. techlan - agreed, time to call the lawyers (send me a PM if you want to collaborate) but honestly just want to get out of that place ASAP.

Posted by devsys22, 07-30-2010, 10:39 AM
This is what you all get by going with a crap provider. When you pick the cheapest provider out there, like Galaxy, and dont tour the facility first hand, don't act surprised when they have an outage. Dont believe anything you read online, you physically have to tour the datacenter - see the UPS, see the battery room, see the generators, see the fuel tanks, ask for copies of PM contracts, do your homework. If you pay more and go with a more reputable company - then you wont have outages. Its simple. You get what you pay for.

Posted by techclan, 07-30-2010, 10:43 AM
I'm still waiting for the detailed email that they claim will be going out. I want to know how they're going to justify this. So far the attitude I've seen from these guys is "Deal with it". I just can not afford another disaster like that again...

Posted by jacobnyc, 07-30-2010, 11:22 AM
1. they should have had a generator. I couldn't imagine they wouldn't have a generator 2. they should have sent an email to all clients, and then follow up emails once an hour 3. they should have had better staff answering the phone than that one russian girl who said "galaxy" and then didn't apologize or even try to make me feel better 4. they should refund the past month, but they will likely offer 1 month free-- since they know we're all jumping ship. I've already moved all my files off my server, and onto another one. I'm going with solarvps. But next comes the nightmare of getting Galaxyvisons to stop charging my credit card even after I cancel! Where do I sign up for that class action?

Posted by puder, 07-30-2010, 11:30 AM
I've done that for previous DCs I've been in and paid top dollar and still had the same problems! Let's just hope thing stay stable enough to do a proper planned transition to new providers.

Posted by techclan, 07-30-2010, 11:56 AM
jacobnyc, At least you were able to talk to the Russian girl. After getting voicemail is full 20 times, she finally picked up the phone and just hung up on me right when I asked if they have an ETA on when things are going to be back...

Posted by jacobnyc, 07-30-2010, 12:18 PM
i can't believe so many people were duped into thinking this was a legit company. i mean, the signs are all there-- goofy artwork on their website, the same person always answering the phone, the slow response to issues. not to mention all of the bad reviews on them on the interweb. we should have known better. so far i'm enjoying solarvps. DNS went quickly and its very fast. the same pages with photo slideshows are loading much faster than with galaxy-- who probably also oversell their servers. i hope someone goes to brooklyn and takes photos of their setup. And what's that about Coned saying there were no power outages?

Posted by kidmuto, 07-30-2010, 12:18 PM
hey jacob, agree, i dont understand how they didn't have a generator already hooked up when the SLA clearly states they have 2 generators and UPS! email communications from them are useless when your email lives on the server that is down - that is why friendly staff who actually answer the phone would have been nice. glad to hear you've managed to move out so quickly.

Posted by jacobnyc, 07-30-2010, 12:24 PM
Within 5 minutes of them being up again I was downloading everything. Stayed up late, got all the mysql dumps, got up early this morning-- skipping work so I can get things set up. Already moved everything to the new server, just waiting for tonight to give out nameserver instructions. Don't want anyone to lose email, but after the past few days, anything is progress.

Posted by jacobnyc, 07-30-2010, 02:09 PM
so where is this email to their customers explaining what happened, and what they are going to do about it? I'm guessing since only 2 people appear to work at Galaxy (this leonard guy and his girlfriend) that they are sleeping in after a long night of fixes.

Posted by techclan, 07-30-2010, 02:12 PM
I have not seen anything yet either...

Posted by rb902, 07-30-2010, 03:01 PM
lol, you got a point though. Anyways, I'm suprised that people even want to stay. It's right their in front of people's faces, they lied. A real datacenter would probably have had a automatic ups providing power once it detected power failure and the generator should have been hooked up in a few minutes, with the ups giving cover. Just goes to show you...

Posted by (Stephen), 07-30-2010, 03:07 PM
Just for the record, in a real datacenter, the generator is always hooked up unless in maintenance that is planned, and ups to generator takes a matter of seconds with an auto transfer switch, no one has to be there to 'switch' or 'hook up' anything. I am avoiding some complexity in this like some manual switches and bypasses for maintenance matters, but basically if you have to hook up or switch something manually, it is done wrong.

Posted by jacobnyc, 07-30-2010, 03:14 PM
yes, in fact I know several individuals who have automatic backup generators for their HOMES. The kind that simply turn on and start running when there is a power outage. So then, you can have your UPS hooked up, and it handles the 2-5 seconds of downtime. But even if you have one that requires you to turn it on manually, the UPS devices in every rack will keep them all going while you get it switched on. It sounds like they had an internal power problem, and are blaming it on Coned. And they never had a generator, and ordered the kind that they park outside your building, and it took a while to get that hooked up. I trust 90% of their clients will leave them, and their reputation is shot after this, and that they will reopen with a new name within 1 month. The question is, will Leonid and his girlfriend stay together. Tune in next week for the exciting conclusion.

Lol'd, wonder how much money went on making the DC...

Posted by jacobnyc, 07-30-2010, 04:18 PM
if its even theirs...

Posted by jayglate, 07-30-2010, 08:11 PM
Their rep was shot when they opened their doors for business.

Posted by WebPro13, 07-30-2010, 09:46 PM
I've been a customer with GalaxyVisions for a very long time and i have to tell you i've never had any problems with them. Their support was great and there wasnt any downtime. Whatever happened could've happened anywhere. I understand a lot of people lost their clients, but so are they. Its funny how you guys gang up together on them without knowing any of the details. I guess when you dont like something you just sit and brag about it?? I suggest you get a life ........

Posted by rb902, 07-30-2010, 10:07 PM
I disagree with you. According to the current clients, this datacenter had power outages before. You understand that they (these clients) lost their customers abd clients and you think that it's alright? Are you kidding me? It's NOT alright, this DC is probably a one or two man operation or something because the staff couldn't even keep people updated. It's NOT okay for someone to lose customers because their provider couldn't keep up the deal (I'm guessing the 99.9% SLA is broken?). This doesn't (at least not often) and shouldn't happen anywhere else! These datacenter guys totally lied, they don't even have a generator probably. They had a power failure and decided to rent out a generator... Taking them hours to hook things up. Good and professional datacenters HAVE fallovers or whatever you want to call it. They have instant UPS power that automatically turn on abd they have generators on site that auto turns on or is turned on by staff with the UPS supplying backup power to keep the servers up. These guys are ganging up? Of course they have to and of course they should, it seems that the DC lied and they are paying for it with loss of their clients. They have every right to be angry and to gang up because the DC didn't keep up it's end of the contract. I'm not suprised that they are seeing a lawyer and going over. And finally good support? That girl just hung up on clients! clients who PAY and just want some info regarding this huge downtime. For some reason it seems to me that you either have your facts wrong, are affilated with that DC, or someone who hasn't understood how much of an impact this is to business. I do understand what an impact it is and don't underestimate my intelligence. I do not appreciate it nor care about your assumptions. And as far as I'm concerned whenever I placed a call, I was explained the procedure and was actually spoken to. But I guess its hard to understand that at times like this phones will be going off, right? For someone who's probably paying pennies, you do have a lot of time on your hands to degrade people.

Posted by rb902, 07-31-2010, 10:17 AM
Me, degrade people? What about your other comment, might wanna reread that. A well known company would never leave their clients in the dark. Newbies in the web industry even have Twitter and they keep it updated. If new hosting services can keep twitter updated then im suprised that this DC cant even make phone calls nor use a backup service to send Emails. I'll have you know that its impossiable to spend pennies in this industry unless of course you in a server packed with a few thousand people and the DC has a uptime of 10.9% then and only then you might be able to pickup a reseller for 99 cents. I'll have you know that I'm hosted in a DC that never went under 99.7% uptime and no power loss in sight. Thank you for signing up here at WHT and making these posts! Have a good day /me turns off notifications.

Posted by rb902, 07-31-2010, 10:38 AM
Ooops, I made a mistake, the datacenter I am in (server) had 99.97% uptime, never went under that.

Posted by jacobnyc, 07-31-2010, 03:33 PM
I could forgive their power outage if they had: 1. sent at least ONE email to me regarding the situation. 2. followed up with their promise to send out an email yesterday (even on the phone they said they would) about what happened and how they would compensate me 3. had good customer service. they did not, the girl was evasive and unfriendly. The power outage could indeed happen to anyone, but the way they handled it was unprofessional to say the least, perhaps even criminal.

Posted by nycitpro, 07-31-2010, 06:20 PM
i am another angry gv customer. they have ruined my business, costing me tons of money due to lost customers and tarnished reputation. you are right about the lies. they always say it is covered or fixed but it isn't. i found a great provider in secaucus at equinix. i have worked with them since last summer on a few projects and they were great. a close friend referred them and has his servers hosted there for years with not a second of downtime that he didn't cause himself. they are cutting me the same deal i have at gv so i will move. i tried to get into equinix directly, but they are too expensive. the way to go is to get in with a larger provider that already has space and is looking to grow.

Posted by nycitpro, 07-31-2010, 06:23 PM
they probably did the plan with coned where they get paid to go off the grid for certain times. con ed offers incentive plans. i bet they take money from coned to fall onto generator power. their plan backfired. that is my guess.

Posted by nycitpro, 07-31-2010, 06:27 PM
they are not a two man operation. i have been there a few years. they always have at least one person overnight. during the day there are 10 people including the russian woman. i have even seen up to about 20 guys working there. i think they have phone support in russia. the problem seems to be that that building sucks. the power keeps blowing out in the whole building except one floor. add that to the coned mystery, and you get problems. bottomline: i can't be down.

Posted by jacobnyc, 07-31-2010, 09:03 PM
is anyone actually going to stay with galaxyvisions after this fiasco?

Posted by JoJoRider, 08-01-2010, 10:43 AM
Galaxy's website is up. They have a link to the BBB. I highly recommend that everyone effect by the outage click the BBB link, get the business report. Galaxy currently has a A+ rating. They should have a F rating. As a customer, you can submit a complaint to BBB about how they lied about their service offering, outage caused lose of revenue, etc.,. If everyone submits complaints, they will quickly have an F rating - which will make it difficult for them to trick new customers in the future.

Check out the offers section and the reviews of the provider. You can certainly find excellent ones.

Posted by techclan, 08-11-2010, 02:08 PM
Their generator must have ran out of gas, cause THEY ARE DOWN AGAIN.

Posted by kidmuto, 08-11-2010, 03:56 PM
they are back up, luckily this was a short one. according to their staff, they suffered a DDOS attack and it was quickly resolved. my logs show power was removed though, so when i asked why a DDOS attack would cause my server to lose power, he said the server probably had an "overstack" due to the DDOS. i almost started to laugh. then i told him that made no sense at all, and he hung up on me.

Posted by techclan, 08-11-2010, 05:15 PM
I called a few times but got the usual "Voicemail is full" message. They were down for little over 30 minutes. I can't believe they have the nerve to just lie then hang up on their customers. They give Russians a bad name that's for sure.

Posted by rb902, 08-11-2010, 05:22 PM
I'm suprised people still use them, this is like the 4th or 5th downtime. A dedicated server going down is acceptable (it happens) but a whole datacenter facing this many dowmtimes is unacceptable.

Posted by woods01, 08-12-2010, 11:27 PM
The interesting thing about GalaxyVisions citing numerous DDOS attack issues is if memory serves me right they either currently do, or did pretty recently host IRC servers on at least one of the big networks out there. I remember speaking to them about this as we wanted to do business with them but they had a no irc policy. Didn't make sense but they aren't the only company with such a policy all the while hosting a big server themselves. Every provider under the sun has a no irc policy even if they don't know what it is. Why bother with a company that hosts it, is always having ddos issues, and at the same time doesn't permit clients to run it?

Posted by kidmuto, 08-19-2010, 10:45 AM
I suffered a significant DDOS attack last night aimed at one of my colo systems. The Operations Manager came out to meet me late in the night and he was quite intrumental in assisting with the investigation. I have to say I was impressed with the technical expertise and customer service I got from this guy. I also saw that quite an investment has been made in new infrastructure as a response to the previous power outages. I've had a change of heart for now... it seems like Galaxy is taking the right steps to rebuild thier reputation.

Posted by woods01, 08-20-2010, 01:22 AM
I sure hope your able to backup that claim with a moderator by clicking the 'report' tab. Someone with a 4 post history giving a positive review in an outage post seems a bit odd. Or just perhaps post one of your GV ip's.
