DOWNTOWNHOST last time is very very bad

Posted by Odissey, 01-21-2011, 04:28 AM
When I have come on this hosting one year ago, all was good. But now it is very bad hosting, very often my sites don't work. Quality a hosting the awful. I got it. What is all hostings such, in the beginning they good, then begin problems, it very much afflicts (((

Posted by Jedito, 01-21-2011, 09:36 AM
We terrible sorry about the bad experience, you are hosted on a server that was affected by 4 hours of downtime the past week due a power failure on the datacenter on where its hosted. Unfortunately, the resolution was out of our hand. I understand your angry and you are right about being like that.

You can't really blame DowntownHost on this outage. I was an outage in the Wiredtree DC that effecting many servers including a few of ours. Things like this are out of the hosts hands and I am sure they dealt with it in the best way possible.

but , sites again not work !!!

Posted by Odissey, 01-22-2011, 06:19 AM
Why so often my sites don't work? Yesterday as, the day before yesterday, today!! It is very bad service I call every day in support and support repair it .... (((( it not superior hosting (((

Sorry about it, with the power failure of the past day, many databases were marked as crashed and that was causing an increment on the server load, indeed, the server was not down again, but very slow. I'm working on that right now.

you not have APS and voltage regulator ????

Posted by Jedito, 01-22-2011, 02:01 PM
The problem was on the datacenter sir.

Again site down ! super hosting !

Datacenters are supposed to have UPS units. From http://www.downtownhost.com/pages/dataCenter Power ...The electric service in the building is connected to parallel redundant Powerware UPS units,... Maybe this is not a good datacenter.

Posted by Jedito, 01-25-2011, 09:16 AM
On your other thread I updated you with a link to another thread explaining the situation, you may want to check it.

Posted by Ed-Freethought, 01-25-2011, 09:21 AM
A facility wide UPS protects the incoming grid power to the building, it does not prevent problems with the internal power distribution system. Any redundancy on the internal electrical distribution system is one of the key differences between Tier-II, Tier-III and Tier-IV data centre designs.

Posted by CretaForce, 01-26-2011, 04:21 AM
Which server has the problem?

Posted by Odissey, 01-26-2011, 04:25 AM
server 50, all my sites down

Posted by Jedito, 01-26-2011, 10:26 AM
The restore of /home is at 41%. Unfortunately there's nothing that we can do to speed this up.

Two days, no website, this is unacceptable. The handling of this incident is completely unacceptable. If you ask for updates of any kind you are angrily told to subscribe to their "helpdesk" portion of their site. But you won't receive any email notices or updates because they are EDITING their post (subscribers only get NEW notice emails). So unless you go hunting for this one specific thread you won't find ANY word of this failure. To add insult to injury, they can't even be bothered to link the news post in their twitter updates, they tell you to go find it. Yes, we understand the datacenter failed you. But since you're the ones gladly taking our money, the blame falls upon you for not taking better precautions and for not handling this better. I'll save my complaints about another client's mysql server going down almost every day for another thread. Last edited by kerusdotorg; 01-26-2011 at 01:04 PM.

Jedito, Is this your only server?

Posted by Jedito, 01-26-2011, 01:40 PM
That's completely untrue, we published the issue on Twitter and on our Help Desk, on the news section, an announcement was added as soon as we noticed of the problem. 29 Updates were done there informing every step that we took. A link to the help desk was posted on the twitter that I think I answered to you, and told you to click exactly on where you were going to see the announcement, the effort of one click is the only what we asked you. No, we have many servers, but we can't restore the data in another server while the bare metal restore is done.

Just curious, how large is /home? That way clients can get an idea of how much is left to transfer.

Posted by Jedito, 01-26-2011, 02:22 PM
/home is 850 GB, but used about 400 GB. The time is not something stable, sometimes there speed is 1% every 10 minutes, sometimes 1% every 20. That's why we don't want to give an incorrect ETA. At this moment is 58% while 40 minutes ago was 56%

How can I be assured that my numerous other accounts with you won't have this same thing happen to them eventually? You are forcing my hand here. How do you plan to make good on your 99.9% uptime guarantee, and make this up to your customers? I need SOMETHING to tell my client here before I lose them. We terrible sorry about this downtime, is the worst in the history of this company in near 10 years we never had something like this before. We also learned a lesson here. The uptime of the server was over 99.9% for many months before of this. We have already some plans but are going to be published once this situation gets resolved.

Jedito, I know you are getting a run around from WiredTree but please don't make your clients have the same problem with DTH. I see that a new server has been provided to those of us on server 50. What exactly does this mean? Can we recreate email accounts so that our clients can use email? If so, what happens with all of the old emails on server 50? My clients need access to old emails on server 50. In other words, if I create a new account on the new server and setup email accounts, how do my clients have access to both old (from server 50) and the new server??? I asked this by submitting a ticket but got some generic response which, at this point, is not appreciated.

Posted by Jedito, 01-26-2011, 05:16 PM
You can create email accounts on the new server, and upload all the contents again, once the server come back, what you can do is to use the IP of server 50 instead of the domain to connect to the mail server, in that way you'll able to access to both accounts.

Posted by stock_sure, 01-26-2011, 05:25 PM
So recreate the accounts I need on server 53, then recreate the email accounts? This new server will start getting all of the new emails. Then when server 50 is back online, I will use the IP of server 50 to connect to the mail server. Is this all correct? But won't I now have 2 accounts, one on server 50 and another on 53? How will I use the IP of server 50 to connect? Where does that IP go?

Posted by Jedito, 01-26-2011, 05:35 PM
H. I think that you have a ticket on the help desk, Sebastian just answered you there.

Posted by stock_sure, 01-26-2011, 05:38 PM
Sebastian has tried to help but he hasn't answer my question. I would only need to submit an email once if my question was actually answered. It really isn't that tough of a question either. Again, I understand your situation but then rushing through tickets and not actually answering only makes it worse. Last edited by stock_sure; 01-26-2011 at 05:46 PM.

I was reading your ticket, and I do not understand what you mean, Sebastian asked a clarification too, please keep this through the help desk system, WHT is not our support forum.

Why there are no news? When will work sites?

Posted by bobpit, 01-27-2011, 08:44 AM
my account was restored about an hour ago. All my sites are working now.

Posted by Jedito, 01-27-2011, 08:58 AM
We added news on where we requested that you contact us with your account user name, please open a help desk ticket letting us know that.

Posted by Odissey, 01-27-2011, 09:31 AM
After restoration of work of sites, there is a necessity to change the server? Or it is the new server and will work good?

Posted by Jedito, 01-27-2011, 09:39 AM
Please keep the support questions through our help desk, WHT is not our support forum.
