Spechosting down?
Posted by MannDude, 02-24-2011, 07:31 PM |
Anyone else experiencing this?
I keep Surmounted.NET's company site hosted on their Spec2 server. I was FTPing some changes when I noticed the connection closed. Hit refresh in my browser and our site and Spechosting's main page are both down.
They've been down for at least 15-20 minutes now.

Always a wise idea to go with http://www.downforeveryoneorjustme.com/ before here. I can tell you as a former business owner (and now employee of a web host) it's quite annoying to have someone claim you're down when you're not.
Most likely you got blocked by their firewall for using passive FTP. It happens a lot with misconfigured FTP clients. Would recommend rebooting your modem, getting a new IP and trying again.

Agreed. If I think a site is down I will just check it at http://www.intodns.com and if a lot of entries are pink (WWW A Record, etc) I then know the site IS actually down, if not, it is my own IP that has been blocked.

Yes, I apologize. I've been extremely busy with work and have been multitasking like crazy, I didn't think to check our Pingdom report or downforeveryoneorjustme.com (Which I have used in the past and usually do use). I came to WHT too soon.
This was a temporary time frame where I could not access the site, but Pingdom IS NOT reporting any downtime nor is the server status script monitoring that server.
I just want to make it clear to anyone who is reading this, or found this thread while searching for Spechosting information:
The server WAS available, nothing monitoring the server shows downtime so this was simply an isolated incident where I was unable to access it. Our server status script shows that server has been online for 150 days, more than acceptable.

Thanks!
